On 6 JUN, Fleet and Family Support Center (FFSC) partnered with the School Liaison Officers and Chet Harrit Elementary School to officially open a new venue for family support programs in the East County area, FFSC Santee Branch. Naval Base San Diego (NBSD) command leadership attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house, along with representatives of the military and civilian community. This venue will be used by FFSC to provide convenient and accessible services to families that may be geographically isolated from other FFSC San Diego locations. FFSC continues to partner with military and civilian agencies to enhance the resiliency-building programs available to Sailors and their families, in support of the Fleet, Fighter, and Family.

Thanksgiving Dinner Giveaway at NAS JRB Fort Worth

NAS JRB Fort Worth’s Fleet and Family Support Center hosted the Tarrant Area’s Food Bank Nov. 17, and “proudly provided over 300 military families from all branches a turkey dinner, to include a turkey and sides,” said FFSC Director, Lydia Miller.

The TAFB donated turkeys, canned goods, fresh vegetables, dairy products and more. With two lanes, vehicles were loaded with products by FFSC employees, military, and civilian volunteers. Installation’s Commanding Officer, CAPT Mark McLean handed out the first turkey!

Kaki Kidd, TAFB representative said, “I was so excited to be able to work with the FFSC to make this event happen. It took a lot of coordinating and communication, but military members and their families deserve the world! We wanted to do everything we could to ensure they have a delicious meal for Thanksgiving.”

Naval Air Facility Misawa's Family Readiness Group hosted an excellent Chili Cook-Off!

Congratulations to Diana Abott for her prize-winning chili and special thanks to all the FRG members who donate their personal time to make our lives better!

Family Readiness Groups (FRGs) are an integral part of a support service network that bundles key support services such as ombudsmen, Fleet and Family Support Centers (FFSCs), chaplains, school liaison officers and child development centers at the command level. These services provide coordinated support to service members and their families.

FRGs also prepare members for deployments and homecoming; provide family support during deployments; help families adjust to challenges and to support one another in times of personal, unit or area crises; welcome/mentor members who are new to the Navy lifestyle; and coordinate social events, such as holiday celebrations.
