FFSC 30th Birthday Celebration held at FFSC Yorktown! CAPT Bette Bolivar, Commanding Officer, Naval Weapons Station Yorktown, started off the event by cutting the official birthday cake with Site Manager, Michele Bondurant. Several personnel from the installation and tenant commands stopped by to share a hotdog lunch and cake. Resource materials were given out along with 30th Birthday "green" shopping bags, and Blue's Clue's Happy Birthday books. Housing Office staff also went away with key chains to give clients checking into the area. The highlight of the day for many was the display of Yorktown's new puppet stage and puppets which will be debuted on 6 August for a tenant command Kid's and Deployment program.

Thanksgiving Dinner Giveaway at NAS JRB Fort Worth

NAS JRB Fort Worth’s Fleet and Family Support Center hosted the Tarrant Area’s Food Bank Nov. 17, and “proudly provided over 300 military families from all branches a turkey dinner, to include a turkey and sides,” said FFSC Director, Lydia Miller.

The TAFB donated turkeys, canned goods, fresh vegetables, dairy products and more. With two lanes, vehicles were loaded with products by FFSC employees, military, and civilian volunteers. Installation’s Commanding Officer, CAPT Mark McLean handed out the first turkey!

Kaki Kidd, TAFB representative said, “I was so excited to be able to work with the FFSC to make this event happen. It took a lot of coordinating and communication, but military members and their families deserve the world! We wanted to do everything we could to ensure they have a delicious meal for Thanksgiving.”

On October 12-13, an international conference was held at Duke on the occasion of Prof. Bob Behringer‘s 65th birthday. Talks by world leaders in the fields of granular materials and fluid dynamics made for a fascinating scientific program, and many of Bob’s former students and postdocs participated. The picture below shows the participants gathered outside the Physics Building (in front of the FFSC). More information about BobFest can be found here.
