With the news in April 2015 that the RhB have invited tenders for 27 EMU sets, with options for a further 19, the intention to replace loco-hauled trains is very much on the agenda.

Special thanks to David Cooper david-cooper.fotopic.net for this fabulous photograph.

Huge thanks to Pete Waterman ( www.justliketherealthing.co.uk/ ) again for the use of his fantastic layout as a backdrop for these pictures.

A full gallery with break down component pictures of how this was built will be up in my Brickshelf folder in the next few days. www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=432359

Red vinyl has been used to replicate current parts that I did not have and also extremely old rare parts that were just too expensive too purchase ( such as the old style macaroni bricks www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=x1042a at $7.00 each!) These would give the smooth clean lines of the sloped boiler that is seen here. The gap between the sloped sections is generally covered by the hand rail, but me being me covered it all in vinyl as I dislike even the smallest gaps ;)

I have often seen comments that the HE should be dark red, this is incorrect, the engine (Olton Hall) that was used for the film is red. The carriages are crimson. The dark red vinyl I have is too dark for the carriages, thus these got built in red as the window shape was important to me. LEGO dark red would be the perfect colour for these carriages, but the windows are not made in this colour :| Hello TLG ;)

For me the bus scene in Gwynedd has never been the same since the demise of Express Motors. There was no real standardisation and you just never knew what was going to turn up on any given route, such as the time I travelled from Caernarfon to Porthmadog on an open top VR on route 1, most definitely not an open top route though the scenery certainly warranted it. I missed KMP, Silver Star and Padarn Bus when they disappeared, but it was Express Motors I mourned the loss of most of all, a victim of their own unethical practices, but having been around since 1908 in one form or another you kind of got the feeling they wouldn't really go! Here former Arriva London DLA LG52 DBU and former Arriva Midlands Volvo Olympian R624 MNU are pictured together in the main Penygroes depot almost two years before the company's licence was revoked with effect from 31st December 2017.

First Cymru has received its fair share of cascaded Pointer-bodied Darts over the years.

The latest batch, badged as Alexander Dennis, are 05- and 06-plate, which are currently transferring from the West of England fleet. These are seeing off the oldest native examples, sadly including South Wales Transport heritage liveried 42693.

To add to the livery variety, 42962, latterly based at Weston-Super-Mare depot, carries North Somerset Council's 'Express Yourself' scheme, which was replaced last year by the orange 'Excel' version.
