The tarts fresh out of the oven. Hurrah!
They look quite happy sitting there, don't they? However, while shaping the pastry to the cups, I began panicking about the pastry cups (and thus the tarts) being too small. Fortunately, the tarts came out a good size.
I was at the first ever Terminal City Tabletop Convention in Metrotown on a recent weekend and had an absolute blast.
One of the highlights of my day there was also one of the first things I did. TCTC had a Proto-Alley, showcasing prototypes of games that will soon be published, if all goes to the designers plans.
The first one I tried was "For Greed or Glory", a global domination game of controlling interests around the world, as well as battling national armies, or sending in your own private mercenaries.
It was a lot of fun to play, with some really, really clever mechanics. Your political figure moved on an outside track, gaining power over nations, while your armies moved on the global map, gaining and spending cash for your leader.
I'll do a full write-up of my experiences on my blog soon, but this was a good one, a definitely worth checking out when it hits Kickstarter, planned for late 2014.

During the University of Delaware’s Elder Abuse and Exploitation Conference on May 12 at Clayton Hall, Secretary Landgraf urged people who investigate such cases to be aware that victims also could be suffering from such childhood traumas as sexual, physical or emotional abuse, mental illness, addiction or domestic abuse in the household, or emotional or physical neglect. Long-held trauma, in fact, overwhelms a person’s coping resources, she said.
The Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Survey of more than 17,000 adults found that such experiences are common, with two-thirds of participants reporting at least one ACE. For seniors with four or more ACEs, the risk for such long-term health complications as alcoholism, depression, stroke, heart disease and obesity greatly increase. That’s why, Secretary Landgraf said, trauma threatens healthy aging, including raising the risk for abuse, exploitation, mental illness, and suicide. She urged professions and advocates to assume trauma exists in their clients, to listen when they speak, and to ask the non-judgmental question: “What happened to you?” as a way to encourage them to disclose.
Joining Secretary Landgraf as speakers at the conference were Karen F. Stein, UD professor in the School of Public Policy and Administration, on the lack of greater awareness of elder abuse; Philip C. Marshall on the Brooke Astor Story and its lessons for elder justice; and Elizabeth Loewy, on the invisible epidemic of elder financial abuse. “Elder abuse is coming out of the shadows,” Stein said, pointing to mentions of it on popular TV shows.

Banská Štiavnica
is a town in central Slovakia, in the middle of an immense caldera created by the collapse of an ancient volcano. For its size, the caldera is known as Štiavnica Mountains.
It is a completely preserved medieval town. Because of their historical value, the town and its surroundings were proclaimed by the UNESCO to be a World Heritage Site on December 11, 1993.
The fate of Banská Štiavnica has been closely linked to the exploitation of its abundant resources of silver ore.
However, at present the town is on the decline because there is no silver ore anymore and unemployment affects the inhabitants as well as the whole town. Štiavnica is not prospering and just with the eye of a passerby you can see how many buildings are falling apart.
