Here's my contribution for the "Thought Processor" paper toy show opening on Thursday, 9/3/09 at Munky King store and gallery in LA curated by my buddy Phoneticontrol!
I thought it'd be fitting to revamp an old t-shirt design "Primate Exploitation" since the show is at Munky King ^_^
In case you were wondering, the Chinese characters 猴 means monkey and 吼 means to scream.
Along with this custom paper toy, I will also be showing the original painting- www.flickr.com/photos/martinhsu/2672998228/in/set-7215760...
All of the Thought Processor designs will be available for FREE download on my website www.martinhsu.com and www.phoneticontrol.com later so feel free to explore your inner Xacto knife and Krazy glue skills!
I'm super stoked on how it turned out and hope you dig, too! See you on opening night! ^_^v

A march against the exploitation of and racism toward international students in Australia that the governments (both state and federal) continue to allow to exist. International and Australian students from NSW universities (such as Newcastle, UTS, Macquarie, UNSW and Sydney University) rallied together, marching from Sydney University to UTS and on to NSW Parliament House, asking for the government to intervene and change legislation that allows international students to be taken advantage of.
Some basic rights like abolishing the 20-hour work week limit and providing student travel concessions to international students were demanded in chants and songs. At a deeper level though, the protesters are demanding an end to the systematic racism and exploitation of international students, who are increasingly treated more as a means to profit than as students to educate.
Sokari Douglas Camp
Steel, abalone, gold and copper leaf, acrylic paint and petrol nozzles
Douglas Camp explores African diaspora and socio-political issues from a woman's perspective. Here, she overlays the three (naked) Graces of European art history with elements from her Nigerian heritage. While referencing a print by William Blake calling for the abolition of slavery, Douglas Camp uncovers similarities to Canova's The Three Graces, shown nearby. She dresses her figures in fashionable Nigerian style, crowning them with gèlè (head ties). Their 'petrol nozzle' garland alludes to multinational exploitation of Niger Delta fossil fuels, emphasising the necessity of caring for our shared environment.

Taken in the Exhibition
Africa Fashion
(July 2022 to April 2023)
The irresistible creativity, ingenuity and unstoppable global impact of contemporary African fashions are celebrated in an extensive display of garments, textiles, personal testimonies, photographs, sketches, film and catwalk footage in this exhibition. Many of the garments on show hail from the archives of iconic mid-twentieth century African designers – Shade Thomas-Fahm, Chris Seydou, Kofi Ansah and Alphadi. Alongside these are personal insights from influential contemporary African fashion creatives, including Imane Ayissi, IAMISIGO, Moshions, Thebe Magugu and Sindiso Khumalo, as well as highlights from fashion trends of the day, which are on display for the first time.
Foregrounding individual African voices and perspectives, the exhibition presents African fashions as a self-defining art form that reveals the richness and diversity of African histories and cultures. Africa Fashion celebrates the vitality and innovation of a selection of fashion creatives from over 20 countries, exploring the work of the vanguard in the twentieth century and the creatives at the heart of this eclectic and cosmopolitan scene today.
Across contemporary couture, ready-to-wear, made-to-order and adornment, the exhibition seeks to offer a close-up look at the new generation of ground-breaking designers, collectives, stylists and fashion photographers working in Africa today. It explores how the digital world accelerated the expansion of the industry, irreversibly transforming global fashions as we know them.

I got chewed out for about 20 minutes by one of the officers in the speed trap for taking "exploitation" photos. He didn't believe me when I told him I did not understand how these photos were "exploitation".
He did not like me spying from a block away. I bet they would have said I was "interfering" if I was any closer. Free country, my ass.

RGB.VGA.VOLT is an audio/video synthesizer that enables realtime exploration of the rich materiality concealed beneath the consumer interfaces of cathode ray tube computer monitors. By hacking and improperly rewiring the cables of these obsolete devices to short their video signals, their black-boxed analog infrastructure is liberated and driven by digitally synthesized high-frequency complex waveforms, audio playback, and feedback loops that fully exploit their latent visual spectrum. Inspired by early video tools such as the Sandin Image Processor and the Paik-Abe Synthesizer as well as contemporary programming and error-based approaches to sound and moving image, RGB.VGA.VOLT revives an analog aesthetic that has acquired a renewed power and potency in the present era of digital immateriality.
The instrument, demonstrated on four VGA computer monitors in this video, combines custom built software, hardware modification, and DIY instrumentation. This PDF includes full documentation of the RGB.VGA.VOLT software as well as the instrumentation used in interfacing the software with VGA computer monitors for realtime synthesis.

Split Croatia- Pine-clad hills, secluded coves, beaches- Split and the Dalmatian Riviera have been premier destinations on the Adriatic since the days of theRoman Emperors.
In fact, medieval Split was built within and around the palace built for the emperor Diocletian in his retirement.
The charms that entertained Emperors are still evident today. The Dalmatian Riviera offers the traveler a heady blend of natural beauty and fascinating cultural sites.
Diocletian abdicated in 305 A.D . During his reign , the emperor ruthlessly persecuted Christians. Ironically Split’s St. Dominius’ Cathedral occupies his mausoleum.
As far as we know, the original settlers here were Dalmatians tribes, later joined by Greek merchants, who saw the value of the harbor and its proximity to the rich interior. The first Romans stablished a colony nearby at Selona in 78 B.C, taking full advantage of the same features. Selona eventually became the Roman administrative center for Dalmatia, especially after Caesar settled other Italian colonist there. Roman roads and aqueducts were added to exploit the rich mines and farms along the sunny coast.
Diocletian Palace- The heart of old Split is built within and around the sprawling 8.4 acre(3.4 hectare) Palace erected by Diocletians.
