A little adventure is the visit of the "Golden Cathedral" in the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument.
After a long hike from the trailhead into the valley of the Escalante River you have to
1. find the sand dune on which you descend to the valley of the Escalante,
2. find a passage in the labyrinthine scrub to the shore,
3. cross the icy river with about 1/2 m water depth and
4. walk the neon canyon with its towering cliffs to its end.
But it's worth it, especially in the sunshine in the late morning, when indirect light makes the walls glow in beautiful colors.
Ein kleines Abenteuer ist der Besuch der "Goldenen Kathedrale" im Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument.
Nach einer längeren Wanderung vom Trailhead ins Tal des Escalante River muß man
1. die Sanddüne finden, auf der man abwärts ins Tal des Escalante gelangt,
2. einen Durchgang im labyrinthartigen Gestrüpp zum Ufer finden,
3. den eiskalten Fluß mit ca. 1/2 m Wassertiefe überqueren und
4. den Neon Canyon mit seinen steil aufragenden Felsen bis zu dessen Ende durchwandern.
Aber es lohnt sich, besonders bei Sonnenschein am Vormittag, wenn indirektes Licht die Wände in herrlichen Farben leuchten läßt.

Waldohreule (Asio otus) - (northern) long-eared owl

Die Waldohreule (Asio otus) ist eine Vogelart, die zu den Eigentlichen Eulen (Strigidae) gehört. Sie ist eine der häufigsten Eulen in Mitteleuropa.
Aussehen
Die Waldohreule hat mit einer Körperlänge von etwa 36 cm und einer Flügelspannweite von 95 cm etwa die Größe eines Waldkauzes. Sie ist jedoch wesentlich schlanker als der Waldkauz und mit einem Gewicht von 220 bis 280 Gramm (Männchen) bzw. 250 bis 370 Gramm (Weibchen) erheblich leichter. Auffallende, große Federohren kennzeichnen diese Art. Die Federohren haben keine Funktion im Zusammenhang mit der Hörleistung der Eule. Zur Verstärkung der Hörleistung dient vielmehr der bei der Waldohreule auffällige Gesichtsschleier. Die Iris der Waldohreule ist leuchtend orangegelb. Das Gesicht wird durch eine auffällig hervorstehende Stirnbefiederung geteilt. Die Flügel sind relativ schmal. Das Gefieder der Waldohreule ist auf hellbraunem bis ockergelbem Grund schwarzbraun gestrichelt und gefleckt. Die Hand- und Armschwingen sind deutlich dunkel quergebändert. Allgemein überwiegen bei den Weibchen dunkle, rostbraune Farbtöne. Die Männchen sind dagegen in ihrer Grundfärbung etwas heller. Die Färbung des Gefieders dient der Tarnung; ruhende Vögel im Geäst sind kaum zu entdecken. Die Augen werden durch ein oberes und ein unteres Augenlid sowie durch eine Nickhaut, die das Auge bedecken kann, geschützt.

This species is a part of the larger grouping of owls known as typical owls, family Strigidae, which contains most species of owl. The other grouping of owls are the barn owls, family Tytonidae.
The scientific name is from Latin. The genus name Asio is a type of eared owl, and otus also refers to a small eared owl.
Description
The long-eared owl is a medium-sized owl, 31–40 cm (12–16 in) in length with an 86–100 cm (34–39 in) wingspan and a body mass of 178–435 g (6.3–15.3 oz).[3][4] It has erect blackish ear-tufts, which are positioned in the centre of the head. The ear-tufts are used to make the owl appear larger to other owls while perched. The female is larger in size and darker in colouration than the male. The long-eared owl's brownish feathers are vertically streaked. Tarsus and toes are entirely feathered. Eye disks are also characteristic in this species. However, the eye disks of A. otus are darker in colour or rusty-orange. This nocturnal species is perhaps most easily seen perched in a tree in its daytime roost, sometimes in small groups during the winter months. There are about six thousand long eared owls in the United States, and fifty thousand in the whole world.

ENG: You can see a grey heron, also called fish heron! I discovered this one at the Teltowkanal lock in Kleinmachnow. This place is located in the district Potsdam-Mittelmark in the federal state Brandenburg. Sometimes a walk brings new impressions and there was a lot to discover there. Whether it is the large lock building, the old historic streetcar from about 1930 directly on the Teltow Canal or the charming landscape.

GER: Zu sehen ist hier ein Graureiher, auch Fischreiher genannt! Diesen habe ich an der Teltowkanal Schleuse in Kleinmachnow entdeckt. Dieser Ort liegt im Landkreis Potsdam-Mittelmark im Bundesland Brandenburg. Manchmal bringt ein Spaziergang neue Eindrücke mit sich und es gab dort einiges zu entdecken. Ob es das große Schleusen Gebäude ist, die alte historische Straßenbahn von etwa 1930 direkt am Teltow-Kanal oder die bezaubernde Landschaft.

Ein Kleinod am Rand der Elsässischen Weinstraße ist zwischen Riquewihr und Ribeauvillé zu entdecken: das Winzerdörfchen Hunawihr mit seiner Wehrkirche, die Jakobus d. Ä. geweiht ist. Von weitem erblickt man am Fuss der Vogesen die kleine Festung mit Mauerring und fünf halbkreisförmigen Bastionen, die mit Schiessscharten versehen sind.
Hunawihr gehört zu den "Plus beaux villages de France" als eines der schönsten Dörfer Frankreichs.
Ausgiebig haben wir das herrliche frühherbstliche Wetter genossen, um wieder einmal das Elsaß zu besuchen , gerade einen "Katzensprung" über den Rhein entfernt gelegen...

Hunawihr fait partie du canton de Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines et de l'arrondissement de Colmar-Ribeauvillé.C'est une des 188 communes1 du parc naturel régional des Ballons des Vosges. Le village qui se trouve entre Riquewihr et Ribeauvillé est bâti sur les flancs d'un étroit vallon, légèrement en aval de la route des vins d'Alsace. Son cadre, au milieu des vignes et ses belles maisons à colombages, en fait un des plus beaux villages de France.
L'église de Hunawihr est dédiée à St-Jacques le majeur, un des apôtres du Christ. Elle est construite sur une butte à l'est du village et est entourée d'une enceinte fortifiée octogonale. À chaque angle de cette enceinte se trouve un bastion demi-circulaire dont les archères évasées en trous circulaires sont adaptées aux bouches à feu (canon du XV e siècle).

Der Steinschmätzer gilt in Deutschland als vom Aussterben bedroht. Ich selber kannte ihn noch nicht bevor ich ihn fotografierte und freute mich, dass ich von den selten gewordenen Exemplaren einen entdecken konnte.
Das Bild musste ich leider stark ausschneiden, so das die Qualität nicht mehr so klasse ist.
The wheatear is considered endangered in Germany. I myself did not know him before I photographed him and was pleased that I could discover one of the rare specimens.
Unfortunately, I had to crop the picture, so that the quality is no longer so great.

Le lac de Landro est situé dans le val di Landro, dans le Tyrol du Sud dans la municipalité de Dobbiaco, à quelques kilomètres au nord de la jonction de Carbonin, qui bifurque vers le lac de Misurina, à une distance d'une vingtaine de kilomètres de Cortina d'Ampezzo.
Dornsee est un lac panoramique avec une charmante montagne en toile de fond, Il est également surnommé "Andrew Lak"; Le parc naturel Vance est situé sur la rive ouest de celui-ci .
🇩🇪 An diesem Tag werden wir die Drei Zinnen entdecken.....wir starten früh am Morgen, da sie etwas weit von unserer Basis entfernt sind, und halten kurz auf der Talstraße an, bevor sie zu unserem Ziel hinaufsteigt.
Der Landrosee liegt im Landro-Tal in Südtirol in der Gemeinde Toblach, einige Kilometer nördlich der Abzweigung Carbonin, die zum Misurina-See führt, und etwa 20 Kilometer von Cortina d'Ampezzo entfernt.
Der Dornsee ist ein Panoramasee mit einer bezaubernden Bergkulisse, der auch "Andrew Lak" genannt wird.
🇮🇹 In questa giornata, alla scoperta del Drei Zinnen..... mattina presto, poiché è un po' lontano dalla nostra base, una breve sosta nella strada della valle prima che salga verso la nostra meta.
Il Lago di Landro si trova in Val di Landro, in Alto Adige, nel comune di Dobbiaco, pochi chilometri a nord del bivio di Carbonin, che si dirama verso il Lago di Misurina, a circa 20 chilometri da Cortina d'Ampezzo.
Il Dornsee è un lago panoramico con un incantevole sfondo montuoso, soprannominato anche "Andrew Lak"; il Parco Naturale Vance si trova sulla sua sponda occidentale.

El lago Landro se encuentra en el Val di Landro, en el Tirol del Sur, en el municipio de Dobbiaco, a pocos kilómetros al norte del cruce de Carbonin, que se bifurca en el lago Misurina, a una distancia de unos 20 kilómetros de Cortina d'Ampezzo.
El Dornsee es un pintoresco lago con un encantador telón de fondo montañoso, también es apodado "Andrew Lak"; en su orilla occidental se encuentra el Parque Natural de Vance.
I love the fire. It has a magical and almost meditative effect to me. It’s not only the flames, that behave like being a living animal, it’s the smell, the crackling and the heat on my skin as well.
While I was thinking about that, I realised something else, the connection of fire and love. These two are mentioned together very often like in flames of love, ardent love or burning love. And truly, there are many thing love and fire have in common. Both are able to create and destroy and this simultaneously. They are creating warmth (up to heat) and light. They are changing and transforming. But both can hurt and destroy very fast.
When we are able to accept these similarities we may be able to learn something about how to deal with them. They need attention and affection and we don't need to fear for them but we always have to treat them with respect.
I'm sure there is much more to see and much more to learn but I will leave that to you now.
Ich liebe das Feuer. Es hat eine magische und fast meditative Wirkung auf mich. Es sind nicht nur die Flammen, die sich wie ein lebendes Wesen verhalten, es ist auch der Geruch, das Knistern und die Hitze auf der Haut.
Beim Nachdenken darüber ist mir noch etwas anderes bewusst geworden, nämlich die Verbindung von Feuer und Liebe. Diese beiden werden oft zusammen genannt, wie bei Flammen der Liebe, feurige Liebe oder brennende Liebe.
Und wahrlich giibt es viele Dinge, die diese beiden gemeinsam haben. Beide können erschaffen und vernichten und das sogar gleichzeitig. Sie erschaffen Wärme (bis zu Hitze), und Licht. Sie verändern und transformieren. Doch beide können auch verletzen und vernichten und dies sehr schnell.
Sind wir in der Lage diese Parallelen anzunehmen, so erfahren wir möglichweise auch etwas über den Umgang mit ihnen. Sie benötigen Aufmerksamkeit und Zuwendung and wir brauchen uns nicht vor ihnen zu fürchten, sollten jedoch den Respekt niemals verlieren.
Ich bin sicher, da ist noch viel mehr zu entdecken oder zu lernen, doch das überlasse ich jetzt Euch.

Another example of the infinite diversity of the more or less undiscovered Sinai Mountains. This can only be found on long hikes and persevering searches on the edge of eroded layers of rock.
Ein weiteres Beispiel der unendlichen Vielfalt des mehr oder weniger unentdeckten Sinai Gebirges. Das findet man nur auf ausgedehnten Wanderungen und ausdauernder Suche am Rande erodierter Felsschichten.
Eine Wasseramsel wollte ich schon länger fotografieren aber da ich im Flachland wohne gibt es in meiner Umgebung kein passendes Fließgewässer. In den Alpen ist das ganz anders, hier gibt es dicht beieinander dutzende Stellen die "Wasseramsel Revier" geradezu schreien. Die hier abgelichtete Amsel zu entdecken hat nur ein paar Sekunden gedauert. Sie dann aus der Nähe zu fotografieren war aber wieder eine andere Geschichte. Für diese Aufnahme habe ich an zwei Tagen insgesamt drei oder vier Stunden am Flußufer gesessen. Mein Tipp für alle, die eine Wasseramsel fotografieren wollen: sucht euch eine Stelle, an der keine Spaziergänger mit Hunden unterwegs sind. Wasseramseln scheinen sich nichts aus Leuten zu machen die Selfies aufnehmen aber sobald ein Hund auftaucht fliehen sie in Panik.
Um diesen schönen Singvogel besonders detailreich sehen zu können, drückt die Tasten l (kleines L) und F11. Beim vergrößern nur durch Anklicken gehen viele Details verloren.
I've wanted to photograph a dipper for a long time, but since I live in the lowlands there is no suitable flowing water in the area. It's completely different in the Alps, here there are dozens of places close together that scream "Dipper habitat". It took me a few seconds only to discover this dipper at the first place I checked out. Getting the shot up close was another story however. For this image I sat on the riverbank for a total of three or four hours over two days. My tip for everyone who wants to photograph a dipper: look for a spot where there are no people walking dogs. A dipper seems not to mind people taking selfies but on first sight of a dog it flees in panic.

Die Wiener Karlskirche wurde im Barockstil im 18. Jahrhundert erbaut. Die Skulptur davor nennt sich Hill Arches und stammt vom Künstler Henry Moore.

Vienna's St Charles Church was built in the Baroque style in the 18th century. The sculpture in front of it is called Hill Arches and is from the artist Henry Moore.

The Sidestep Canyon is one of the many worthwhile canyons that can be visited from Page / AZ.
The countless hoodoos are mostly white, interspersed with occasional brown stripes, so not as spectacular as in the Vermilion Cliffs. But you have the Sidestep Canyon almost certainly alone and does not require a permit.
Unfortunately the approach over the BLM 431 is blocked since 2014.
Der Sidestep Canyon ist einer der vielen lohnenswerten Canyons, die man von Page/AZ aus besuchen kann.
Die unzähligen Hoodoos sind meist weiss, durchzogen von gelegentlichen braunen Streifen, also nicht so spektakulär wie in den Vermilion Cliffs. Dafür hat man den Sidestep Canyon mit ziemlicher Sicherheit für sich allein und benötigt kein Permit.
Leider ist die Anfahrt übe die BLM 431 seit 2014 gesperrt.

During a stopover on the way from Kunming to the Yuan Yang rice terraces, we visited the monumental mosque of Shadian.
The Grand Mosque of Shadian was originally built in the year of 1684. After several restorations and reconstructions, the new Grand Mosque of Shadian is built into a large-scaled mosque with a construction area of 18,000 square meters. It is able to hold a capacity of 10,000 people to do prayers at a time (source: www.muslim2china.com/china-mosques/Grand-Mosque-of-Shadia... ).

Even in nothing you can discover a lot. Who has been there, walked here, trampled, maybe hopped? Do I know any of them? Did I meet someone on my way – but didn't notice? Are there any traces of blood on the way? This view simply shows the view from a bridge, here in my village. And even if it looks so empty - there seem to be some on the way ;-)

Selbst in dem Nichts kann man viel entdecken. Wer ist dort gewesen, hier gegangen, getrappelt, vielleicht gehüpft? Kenne ich irgendwen davon? Habe ich jemanden auf meinem Weg getroffen – ihn aber nicht bemerkt? Sind das etwa Blutspuren auf dem Weg? Dieser Blick zeigt ganz schlicht die Aussicht von einer Brücke, hier in meinem Dorf. Und auch wenn es so leer aussieht – es scheinen ja doch einige unterwegs zu sein ;-)
