Asian Elephant

The thai elephant conservarion centre is mainly about providing a home for elephants no longer used in logging, and there is a hospital for injured/rescued elephants, but they also do a short show to show their capabilities, and do short elephant rides. It's a huge park, 30km from Lampang and about an hour from Chiang Mai.

Just some of the elephants from the Pinnewala Elephant Orphanage (outside Kandy) heading across the road to get down to the river for one of their two daily baths.

This African elephant was a very good subject; just stood there and ate the whole time!

Swazi (swah zee) is the matriarch of the herd, but this is her first calf. The calf is much darker than Luti, the other newborn.

UPDATE: His name is eMacembe (ma-calm-bay) LaLu Hlata, meaning "green leaves".
