Educator and civil rights activist Bob Moses launches the library’s Freedom Summer programs with a talk at John Witherspoon Middle School about his role in the 1964 campaign to register African-Americans in Mississippi to vote.
Moses was one of the most influential black leaders of the civil rights movement. He initiated and organized voter registration drives, sit-ins, and Freedoom Schools for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. He helped to lead the Council of Federated Organizations into the Mississippi Summer Project, now known as Freedom Summer.
Moses runs the Algebra Project, which strives to improve math education in poor commuities. He is the co-author of "Radical Equations: Civil Rights From Mississippi to the Algebra Project."
A reception and viewing of the Wisconsin Historical Society’s traveling exhibit “Risking Everything: A Freedom Summer Exhibit for Students,” follows in the school’s Learning Commons. The exhibit, featuring photographs, manuscripts and other materials that document the work of the Freedom Summer volunteers.
This event is part of a series of events supporting "Risking Everything: A Freedom Summer Exhibit" that is traveling nationwide courtesy of the Wisconisn Historical Society. The exhibit will be in Princeton from November 16th to December 5th with two host sites:
JW Learning Commons from November 16th - 23rd
Carl A. Fields Center from November 25th- December 5th

I am a licensed K-6 educator and I work at a free, public, charter school in Wake County. It is a Title I School, a school in which at least 40% of the students receive free or reduced lunch. The number of children eligible at this school is much higher than the required 40% and I’ve learned a lot since starting in January. This is the 5th grade girls classroom and my co-teacher at the whiteboard. The boys and girls are in separate classrooms and I must say it took me a while to get used to this. I guess it works for them Thursday and Friday are EOG practice test day.. Today, they had two test, ELA and Science and by lunchtime they were toast. About the only time I've seen Peruvian women wearing dresses or skirts other than in traditional contexts is when they're in a parade.
I could have asked why this is so but didn't have a chance.
The dressy look for women in public in the Peruvian cities I've been to is pants and nice shoes. The casual look is tight jeans, sometimes with boots.
These are members of the faculty and/or administration of one of the schools in Ayacucho, Peru, that's part of the San Juan Bosco educational mission.

The Valdosta-Lowndes Retired Educators Association meeting was held on Monday, October 8, 2012 at the Holiday Inn in Valdosta, GA. The legislators were present to answer questions before the business meeting and delicious lunch buffet was enjoyed by many.
