The Valdosta-Lowndes Retired Educators' Association held their November meeting on Monday, November 12, 2012 at the Holiday Inn in Valdosta, GA.
Jennifer Selm and Angela Vittori, who teach at Amy Beverland Elementary, were awarded Reading Model Classroom, and Vittori was also awarded Math Model Classroom.
WCC partnered with the Thriving Educator Institute to sponsor the 2026 Washtenaw Promise Teacher of the Year Awards, celebrating K-12 educators across the region whose dedication helps shape the next generation of innovators, leaders and problem-solvers. After our launching, Reggie (our PLWA peer educator) was interviewed by Mmegi. We were all quite shocked and embarrassed that he told the reporter he contracted AIDS by witchcraft. Now, when you ask Reggie how a person contracts HIV/AIDS, he can rattle off the causes (the real ones) like a seasoned teacher. But, when it comes right down to it, when you ask him how he contracted it, he will tell you by witchcraft. He told me that one day he was driving in a car and smelled something burning and he breathed in something that caused his sickness. He believes that someone did this to him by something made by a traditional doctor. Nata has quite a few traditional healers. Many help people with minor aches and pains using natural herbs. There are other types of traditional doctors that will take your money for assistance with your love life, business prosperity, happiness or simply tell your future. One of my friends recently found a pile of hair on the ground near his front door and we’ve been told that this signifies someone has a love interest in him and wants the affections returned. I’ve been told that those responsible for training Reggie have called him back to Gaborone for additional training. When the peer educator believes he contracted HIV/AIDS from witchcraft, this gives you an idea of just how difficult our job is. What initially has shocked and embarrassed us has turned into an opportunity to educate. It is also giving Reggie an opportunity to get further training and hopefully help him come to a better understanding of this virus. We do believe the reporter misunderstood Reggie when it comes to being raised from the dead. Reggie often talks in parables and we believe he simply meant that AIDS had nearly killed him and now, thanks to ARV’s he has a second life. But beyond all the hype and the witchcraft I often wonder why we ask someone how they contracted HIV. We don’t ask how a person got diabetes, heart disease or TB. Why do we further stigmatize this disease with these questions? Next time Reggie is asked the question, I hope he says “it’s none of your business!”
Educators were invited to the Legoengineering Educators Conference on The 4th Floor of the Downtown Chattanooga Public Library on Saturday, June 7 2014 from 8:30am until 4:00pm. 43 educators from the Hamilton County Department of Education attended.

About the only time I've seen Peruvian women wearing dresses or skirts other than in traditional contexts is when they're in a parade.
I could have asked why this is so but didn't have a chance.
The dressy look for women in public in the Peruvian cities I've been to is pants and nice shoes. The casual look is tight jeans, sometimes with boots.
These are members of the faculty and/or administration of one of the schools in Ayacucho, Peru, that's part of the San Juan Bosco educational mission.

The Valdosta-Lowndes Retired Educators Association meeting was held on Monday, October 8, 2012 at the Holiday Inn in Valdosta, GA. The legislators were present to answer questions before the business meeting and delicious lunch buffet was enjoyed by many.
