(BREVARD, NC: May 22, 2017)—Transylvania County Schools celebrated their esteemed educators, including Teacher, Principal, and Teacher Assistant of the Year for 2017-18, at an awards reception on the evening of May 22, 2017, in the Rogow Room at the Transylvania County Library. First Citizens Bank of Brevard and Vice President Amber Webb presented the award for Teacher of the Year.

 

The following district-level awards were recognized:

Student Services Person of the Year—Ashley Witt (Pisgah Forest Elementary)

Media/Technology Person of the Year—Vera Cubero (Brevard High, Rosman High)

Principal of the Year—April Gaydosh (Brevard Elementary)

Rookie Teacher of the Year—Jacob Osteen (Rosman Elementary)

Teacher Assistant of the Year—Paula Fisher (Davidson River)

Teacher of the Year—Rebecca Green (Brevard Middle)

 

Winners of the Transylvania County Teacher and Principal of the Year awards are eligible to enter competition for Regional, State, and National awards over the 2017-18 academic year.

 

School-level winners for Teacher and Teacher Assistant of the Year received awards and recognition from the Transylvania County Board of Education:

Teachers—Carol Martin (Exceptional Children, Brevard Elementary), Anneme Suttles (Kindergarten, Rosman Elementary), Laura Burgess (Kindergarten, Pisgah Forest Elementary, Rebecca Green (Eighth Grade Social Studies, Brevard Middle), Jennifer Corn (Second Grade, TC Henderson Science & Technology), Christine Glance (Exceptional Children, Rosman Middle), Arami Bolick-Moore (English, Davidson River), Sara Plum (Exceptional Children, Brevard High). Not pictured: Patrick Chapman (English, Rosman High).

Educator: The snare drum from the Combo outfit, sold separately 1978-1980

A steady stream of more than 500 applicants flowed through the Community Choice Convention Center, from 8 to noon Saturday morning for the the annual Educator Career Fair. Interviews for high demand positions took place throughout the event, and more than 100 educators will be hired for the 2017-18 school year.

The Illinois DREAM TEAM training took place on Saturday, October 22nd, 2011 at Dominican University. This training was for students, counselors, teachers, and community leaders who want to learn more about the Illinois DREAM Act AND how undocumented students can prepare for college. We learned about the Illinois DREAM Act, the Federal DREAM Act, how DREAM students can find scholarships, and more.

Educators were invited to the Legoengineering Educators Conference on The 4th Floor of the Downtown Chattanooga Public Library on Saturday, June 7 2014 from 8:30am until 4:00pm. 43 educators from the Hamilton County Department of Education attended.

 

LEGOengineering is developed by the Tufts Center for Engineering Education and Outreach (CEEO), with the support of LEGO Education and innovative teachers from around the globe, including the Engineering Design Group Educators (EDGE).

 

The mission of LEGOengineering is to inspire and support teachers in bringing LEGO-based engineering to all students.

First professional educators in Giddings, opening a private school in 1874. In 1883, start of Giddings public free schools saw the McClellans heading the first faculty. McClellan (January 19, 1837 - December 30, 1888), a noted mathematician, taught until his death; Mrs. McClellan (deceased February 2, 1914) remained at her post until 1895. Description: Educator and founder of the Palmer Memorial Institute in Sedalia, North Carolina, Charlotte Eugenia Hawkins Brown was active in the National Council of Negro Women, the N.C. Teachers Association, etc., and was the first black woman to serve on the national board of the YWCA. She lectured and wrote about black women, education, and race relations.
