Approaching Girdwood you can see this train busted through a few drifts and once they were through the small town of Girdwood there was more to come.
I took this about midway up the lake on a ratther cloudy and chilly October day .The Königssee is a lake located in the extreme southeast of the German State of Bavaria (Bayern), near the German-Austrian Border. Lying near the Bavarian town of Berchtesgaden in the municipality of Schönau am Königsee, just south of the Austrian city Salzburg in the German Alps, the Königssee is the third deepest lake in Germany. The lake was formed by glaciers during the last ice age. It is 7.7 kilometers long and about 1.7 kilometers across at its widest point. Except at its outlet, the Königsseer Ache at the village of Königssee, the lake is surrounded by steeply rising flanks of alpine mountains (2.000 m), including the fabled Watzmann.
Riding the boat is a fabulous experience and so easy for people of all ages. If you go early you can have time for a picnic and hiking in serveral spots during the winter fall season the boat alas with only go half way up but its still one glorious journey.
The literal translation appears to be King's Lake, but this is not correct. While König does indeed mean king, the name of the lake comes from the first name Kuno, which appears in several historical sources, and it was formerly called Kunigsee.[1]
The lake is noted for its clear water and is advertised as the cleanest lake in Germany. For this reason, only electric driven boats, rowboats and pedal boats have been permitted on the lake since 1909. The lake and surrounding parklands are very popular with tourists and hikers.
In addition, the lake's position surrounded by mountains creates an echo, which is known for its clarity. On boat tours, it has become traditional to stop and play the trumpet to display the echo. Its a moving experience that with possibly move you to tears.

52 Weeks for Dogs
I'm trying to take a good "reflection" picture for my 52 Weeks For Dog project challenge, even though I missed the deadline. So this isn't great- but it was the best I came up with for this week. Jake's head is over-exposed- oh well. He was interested in the dog in the mirror. I have to post a picture for the week for Jake, and feel stuck- whether to post this one, or the one prior in my photostream (and posted in the comment below)-- or maybe I'll take yet another.
Jake is now 8 months old, standard poodle puppy.

Corporal Jenkins was glad to get out of the fort. Their company had been stationed there for the past four months and life was becoming monotonous.
When Colonel Herrod had tapped him to come along for some target practice, he had jumped at the chance.
"Excellent shot, sir!", he called out as the colonel blasted an empty bottle resting on the barrel.
They heard hoofbeats approaching - it was a rider from the fort. As they came within earshot, Private George called out that Black Bart had been spotted to the north near the foothills of the Blocky Mountains.
They saddled up to head back to the fort. Black Bart's days were numbered.
Found this Engrailed moth sitting on an Ash tree trunk at Dancer's end in the Chilterns this morning - only just spotted it!

A brick with, for British viewers at least, a familiar name. There is a helpful article, published by the Northern Echo, giving a little history of the brick, made by Stanley Brothers and identifying other users of the "trademark" (a manufacturer of bitumen roofing felt and, from 1929, the London Rubber Company). Warning; the Northern Echo page is hopelessly infected with advertisements, all meaningless.
There we have it...

Yesterday, I visited a small, rural Northern California town called Pescadero, about two miles from the Pacific Ocean. It’s only 45 minutes away from where I live. Driving in on the main drag during this first-time visit, I passed a place called Level Lea Farm. The farm’s entrance is covered in large hearts printed with prayers and good wishes. It gave me a good feeling. www.aglandtrust.org/projects/level-lea-farm/36
Excellent and extremely rare at Long Sault that just open and maybe he takes off ?
Below another old view showing it’s distance but much larger…

And the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we'll see
No I won't be afraid, no I won't be afraid
Just as long as you stand, stand by me..."

Lake Urmia, West Azerbaijan Province, Iran

Lake Urmia :
Lake Urmia (Persian: Daryache-ye Orumiye,Azerbaijani Urmu gölü,Kurdish Wermy,Armenian: Կապուտան ծով,Kaputan ts'ov; ancient name: Lake Matiene) is a salt lake in northwestern Iran near Iran's border with Turkey. The lake is between the provinces of East Azerbaijan and West Azerbaijan in Iran, and west of the southern portion of the Caspian Sea.At its full size, it is the largest lake in the Middle East and the sixth largest saltwater lake on earth with a surface area of approximately 5,200 km² (2,000 mile²),140 km (87 mi) length,55 km (34 mi) width, and 16 m (52 ft) depth.
Lake Urmia along with its approximately 102 islands are protected as a national park by the Iranian Department of Environment.
History :
One of the early mentions of Lake Urmia is from the Assyrian records from 9th century BCE.There,in the records of Shalmaneser III (reign 858–824 BCE),two names are mentioned in the area of Lake Urmia:Parsuwash (i.e., the Persians) and Matai (i.e., the Mitanni). It is not completely clear whether these referred to places or tribes or what their relationship was to the subsequent list of personal names and "kings".But Matais were Medes and linguistically the name Parsuwash matches the Old Persian word pārsa,an Achaemenid ethnolinguistic designation.
"Lake Matianus" (Latin: Lacus Matianus) is an old name for Lake Urmia. It was the center of the Mannaean Kingdom,a potential Mannaean settlement, represented by the ruin mound of Hasanlu, was on the south side of Lake Matianus.Mannae was overrun by the people who were called Matiani or Matieni,an Iranian people variously identified as Scythian,Saka,Sarmatian,or Cimmerian. It is not clear whether the lake took its name from the people or the people from the lake, but the country came to be called Matiene or Matiane.
The lake is named after the provincial capital city of Urmia, originally a Syriac name meaning city of water. In the early 1930s,it was called Lake Rezaiyeh after Reza Shah Pahlavi, but after the Iranian Revolution in the late 1970s,the lake was renamed Urmia. Its ancient Persian name was Chichast (meaning, "glittering"–a reference to the glittering mineral particles suspended in the lake water and found along its shores). In medieval times it came to be known as Lake Kabuda (Kabodan),from the word for "azure" in Persian, or 'կապույտ' ("Kapuyt/Gabuyd") in Armenian.
e recriar a vida,
a nossa própria imagem e semelhança
e quantas vezes for preciso.
Essa idade tão fugaz na vida da gente
chama-se PRESENTE
e tem a duração do instante que passa."
Someone had just hosed down this whole area and
I was just about to take my photo, when these two young lovebirds appeared from nowhere. I did not wish to hang about, so I took a quick shot and left them to it.
Godiamoci il presente, del domani non abbiamo certezze.
