Hallstatt is a small village in the Salzkammergut, Austria. It is an unbelievably spectacular place and possibly the most picturesque Austrian village.
For this shot, I had been waiting by the lake for long time until a small boat was passing by and generated a slightly distorted reflection of the church tower on the water. I thought it is very special and different from so many photos taken from this spot.
As always, thanks for stopping by and viewing, I appreciate your comments, visits and invitations.
Whilst in San Francisco with my darling west coast damsel a couple of weekends ago heading toward San Francisco’s Union Square we passed Powell Street and I captured this image of the iconic cable cars on the festively adorned street as they were about to cross paths.

Another one from the Australian Archives. Took this photo two years ago and never could work out why an osprey would carry around a rock!!!!! But it's not a rock, its a turtle - crop it and you can even make out the turtle's head/eyes etc. Thanks blaylock1 for solving the mystery!!

Had an excellent day a few weeks ago in a set-up hide near York photographing wild little owls. They are brilliant birds. Been so busy lately this is the first chance I've had to really sort out and upload some shots. Had a few tries at processing this particular shot to lighten up the face convincingly, do you think it works?
Many thanks to all who comment, fave or just enjoy looking, it really is very much appreciated!
A memorable photo session with my buddy and excellent photographer Nolan Nitschke. I don't remember ever laughing so much during a photo session. So much fun taking in this beautiful late light scene and laughing our asses off. I look forward to many more of these kinda sessions with Nolan.
If you are in the Mammoth Lakes area make sure to stop in his The Sierra Light Gallery - Photography by Nolan Nitschke. Flat out awesome work!

The only main line train for my last day on this breif trip was a bonus works train, WT71, running through Ethelton Gorge with DFB7241 and DFM7226 leading an empty ballast/spoil train back to Christchurch after working up near Tarapui.

Even without any knowledge of the Dutch language you can guess what "Brandweer" means. Mark how the iron capitals are beautifully crafted in a classic font, perhaps art deco style.
Excellent L&P to add to the Lines and Planes series.
It's about surprising compositions in the everyday, a special view of buildings, interiors ... lines made abstract.

The tawny frogmouth (Podargus strigoides) is a medium sized, big-headed, nocturnal bird native to the Australian mainland, including Tasmania, and southern New Guinea.
Tawny Frogmouths are often confused with owls due to their nocturnal habits and similar colouring, but are actually more closely related to the nightjars. Like owls, the leading edges of the primary feathers are fringed to allow for silent flight.
Tawny frogmouths are medium sized, big-headed birds that can measure from 34 to 53 cm long. The plumage is silver-grey to mottled grayish-brown, patterned with white, black and rufous mottles and streaks which provide excellent camouflage while the bird is perched. The eyes are large and yellow and the wide bill is olive-grey to blackish with distinctive tufts of bristles above the bill. There is little to no sexual dimorphism.
The Tawny Frogmouth occurs in a variety of habitats, including forests, woodlands, parks and gardens. During the day, they roost on tree branches camouflaged as part of the tree.
The Tawny Frogmouth's diet comprises large nocturnal insects such as moths, as well as spiders, worms, slugs and snails. Small mammals, reptiles, frogs and birds are also eaten. The Tawny Frogmouth pounces upon its prey from a perch.
This picture is taken in Burgers Zoo in Arnhem, the Netherlands.

It was a rainy afternoon today, winter rain. I went to the Upper Canada Migratory Bird Sanctuary to see what animals would make an appearance. While photographing birds this deer walked quietly into view. It had its sight on the seed that had been scattered on the snow.

One of the most dangerous snakes, because of her aggressiveness and very toxic venom. Most of the lethal incidents with snakes have to be written on her account, at least in africa (in India it is the cobra, but not the king cobra!). Worldwide, about 40.000 people die each year from snake bites. About 10.000 could be victims of this snake, if the numbers are correct.
