I ventured down to Barton on Sea yesterday as there are quite a few pathways further up from the rocks where you can shoot from in relative safety.
I went for some grey moody photos but the sky had other ideas and a beautiful sunset unfolded.
However it was challenging, the horizontal winds were relentless and I was faced with the usual challenges. I had my tripod down low and was wiping my lens constantly, it wasn't actually raining but there was seaspray flying everywhere. There was a beautiful dramatic afterglow but unfortunately most of the shots by that point were either cloudy or just not sharp enough. I will revisit them in a few days, but I think most of them will have to go!.
Some believe that there is a magical time of day when water slows to a wonderful blur.

In Patagonia it pays to keep one eye on the clouds because the combination of wind and mountains makes for some spectacular cloud formations. I saw these marvellous Altocumulus Standing Lenticular (ACSL) clouds near Lago Amarga, Torres del Paine National Park. As the wind rushes over the mountains, it undulates, forming stacks of standing waves over, and in the lee of the mountains. Air rises on one side of a standing wave, condensing water vapor into laminar, layered formations like this

A wall of clouds is forming over Tende, bringing with it the promise of rain.
Nice has been waiting for the same thing since late May: rain. This cloud,
at any rate, seems well on its way to keeping its promise.
Finally, it didn't rain!
A breathtaking twilight scene dominated by a vast and dramatic sky. Clusters of dark, brooding clouds are interspersed with swirling bands of warm gold, orange, and pale blue light from the setting sun. The bottom edge of the frame features a dark line of people silhouetted along the wet shoreline, highlighting the massive scale of the sky and the shared human experience of witnessing the sunset.

Mi affascinano quei momenti in cui il paesaggio smette di essere uno sfondo per trasformarsi in una scena viva.
Il cielo colorato di questa spiaggia sarda evocava già un'emozione. Mancavano solo un passaggio, una presenza, un ritmo. Alcune figure hanno attraversato il mio campo visivo e, in una frazione di secondo, l'immagine si è rivelata.
Fotografare significa saper attendere l'istante in cui l'imprevisto diventa un'evidenza.

Last night’s sky put on a show above Noord-Beveland. A dramatic burst of sunlight pierced through the clouds, scattering golden rays across the landscape. In the distance, the iconic grass drying facility near Kortgene sits quietly under this celestial spotlight—small but unmistakably part of the scene. Zeeland’s skies never disappoint.
