A wider view of the same storm-lit overlook along the Highland Scenic Highway — dark clouds pressing down over layer after layer of mountain ridges, with a scattering of spruce marking the high elevation. The valley below disappears into haze, swallowed by the coming weather.

The Sky’s Final Breath
The horizon is set ablaze as the sun dips behind the towering sentinels, casting long, ink-black shadows across the rippling water. The clouds are no longer mere vapor; they have become a chaotic canvas of fire and indigo, swirling in a silent, epic dance that heralds the coming of the night. It is a moment of profound stillness, where the world seems to hold its breath, caught between the warmth of the dying light and the cold embrace of the approaching dark.
Along the riverbank, the trees stand like ancient witnesses to this celestial war. Each ripple in the water catches a fragment of the golden fire, carrying the sun's last embers downstream into the unknown. The air feels heavy with a gothic melancholy, a reminder that every beautiful light must eventually surrender to the shadows. It is a majestic, dramatic end to the day, captured in a frame where time itself feels frozen in a state of eternal transition.

There were holes in the clouds so the sun could shine through! And above the clouds a lovely blue sky. At least it wasn't raining.
I do wish that lamppost was redundant! Not easy to remove via pp either as there are a few lines, or maybe someone could straighten it!

The edge of the sea marks the close of the human day, but the start of another, more radiant, journey. Along the coastline, a single, brilliant ribbon of sunlight burns, not as a reflection, but as a path. Wrought of molten gold, it cleaves the darkening waters, defying the approaching deep blues and indigos of the ocean and sky. It is not merely light; it is a summons, an ancient and beautiful promise that leads past the known horizon and into the warm, eternal expanse that waits where the world ends.
Here, in the stillness of twilight, the water whispers tales of those who have already tread upon this path. Every wave that touches the shore carries a ghost of a footprint, a reminder of the quiet courage of those who chose to leave the sand behind and walk toward the unending dawn. With the dark silhouette of the world at their backs, they stepped onto this pathway, their hearts lightened as they journeyed toward a place where the sun never truly sets.
Taken in the Marlborough Downs a couple weeks ago. Due to the poor weather yesterday I resorted to going through old files looking for photos that that I passed over first time around and found this one which I thought showed some promise.
A moody view of Medvednica mountain and its highest peak, Sljeme (1030 m), captured from Vrbani in Zagreb.
Low clouds and drifting mist wrap the ridges in layers of blue-grey tones, giving the scene a quiet, almost melancholic atmosphere. The TV tower on the summit appears as a distant silhouette — a small vertical accent in an otherwise soft and fading landscape.
Sometimes the most dramatic moments are the quietest ones.
Symphony of a Dying Sky. The Spree cuts through the heart of Berlin like a ribbon of deep jade, indomitable and quiet, while the city below surrenders to the encroaching shadows. From this high vantage point, the urban labyrinth feels frozen in time, a collection of stone monuments and winding paths caught between the stillness of the earth and the violent awakening of the atmosphere. Below, excursion boats glide silently across the dark waters, carrying souls unaware of the theatrical madness unfolding directly above their heads, leaving soft white wakes that dissolve into the cold depths.
Suddenly, the heavens fracture into a bombastic display of fire and blood, as if an ancient alchemist had spilled his glowing cauldrons across the horizon. The clouds are no longer mere vapor; they have become a churning ocean of amber, crimson, and deep obsidian, casting a dramatic, almost apocalyptic light over the capital. It is a fleeting, fairytale moment where the boundary between reality and myth blurs, leaving the spectator breathless before a city trapped beneath a sky that refuses to die in silence. The unmade
The “eternal city” theme totally came to mind as I watched the light chase away and overcome the dark, stormy skies here on Maui. “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.” (John 1:5 NLT) I believe in an eternal city in heaven, “For he was waiting expectantly and confidently, looking to the city which has foundations, an eternal, heavenly city, whose architect and builder is God.” (Hebrews 11:10 AMP) Even looks to me like there is some dark looking force, dragon like creature in the lower left hand side of the photo. I see a head with ear, eye, nose and mouth pointed to the right. But maybe that's just my over imagination when it comes to cloudscapes.
