This was from the morning gathering at the lek* - these are Lesser Prairie Chickens (they don't have as much brown in them). They share territory in some areas.
*A Lek is a hill/or rise area where birds and animals gather to do their courting and sparking!

The Renaissance castle of Fontaine-Henry was built by the family d'Harcourt and it took nearly a hundred years to finish it (hence it's mainly a Renaissance building, finished in 1560, but it has some details that are in the Gothic style known as Flamboyant). There was actually a fortress built here already in the 11th century and in the beginning of the 13th century this was replaced by a castle (which might explain why it next to the current castle stands a very medieval chapel).
And yes, that is a very steep roof. Steep and high. When it was built it aimed to be the highest roof in France (not the highest building, mind you, the highest roof). It's a beautiful castle, but that is a little bit weird!
The castle is still owned by people who are direct descendants of the family who first started building this castle - though the surname has sometimes changed and the current owners carry the name d’Oilliamson - since it a few times was inherited by women. The house is still privately owned, but the interior can be visited on guided tours (no photography allowed, though).

De laatste maanden is er een flinke stijgende lijn waarneembaar in het vervoer van LTE, zowel in binnen als buitenland. Vooral in het bulkvervoer zoals verschillende granen, plantaardige oliën en chemische goedjes schieten de treinen soms als paddenstoelen uit de grond. Doordat nagenoeg al deze treinen hun herkomst vinden in het oosten van Europa, verschijnen er met regelmaat fraaie en opvallende wagens in deze vervoersstromen. In het ethanolvervoer tussen Nederland en Polen zijn nu veelvuldig de blauwe NitroChemicals ketels te zien, welke zich vaak in een fraaie blauwe bloktrein laten zien. Ook de grijze Slovvagon ketels verschijnen her en der, welke in Nederland anders ook meer uitzondering dan regelmaat zijn. Bijna dagelijks zijn er nu meerdere keteltreinen van LTE onderweg, en daarbij rijden ze vrij vaak bij het daglicht, wat het fotograferen ten goede komt. De bestemmingen per vervoersstroom verschillen in Nederland. Zo worden naast de Rotterdamse Botlek en Pernis ook plaatsen als Moerdijk en Oss aangedaan.
Op de middag van donderdag 13 april zou er weer een ethanoltrein afkomstig van het Poolse Goświnowice vanuit grensstation Bad Bentheim vertrekken. Aangezien deze treinen met regelmaat uit de blauwe NitroChemicals ketels bestaan werd er een oogje in het zeil gehouden. Tegen de middag zouden veel stapelwolken verdwijnen, des te interessanter voor een zonnige foto. Op kop zou de LTE 193 738 zitten, welke niet de meest interessante tractie is in de vloot van LTE, maar zeker niet misstaat voor een fraaie keteltrein. Al geruime tijd stond er een Duitser bij Wunstorf te melden, dus het was afwachten wat hij daar tegen zou komen van LTE. Tegen 14:00 werd dan de verwachtte trein gemeld, alleen ontstonden er wat vraagtekens toen de ketels van Transchem bleken te zijn. Ze bleken allemaal zojuist uit de revisie te zijn gekomen, want er werd vermeld dat ze strak in de lak waren, en allemaal graffiti vrij. Wat ik me er precies bij moest voorstellen wist ik niet, maar het leek erop dat er weer eens een fraaie ketelset onderweg was naar Nederland.
Transchem uit Polen heeft al jaren een aantal ketelsetjes rijden door voornamelijk oost Europa. De ketels zijn nogal opvallend, omdat het vrij korte maar hoge exemplaren zijn. Ze zijn er in twee uitvoeringen, glimmend of lichtgrijs, waarvan de tweede uitvoering flink verbleekt was. De glimmende keteltjes zijn in het verleden wel eens in Nederland geweest met onder andere RRF en Lineas, maar desondanks zijn het zeldzame bezoekers van ons land. De andere ketels zijn ook wel bekend in Nederland, maar dan in de olijfgroene uitvoering van ČD Cargo. Aangezien de melder in Wunstorf het had over een nieuwe laklaag, leek het nu eens te gaan om de andere soort ketels, maar hoe ze dan er precies uit zouden zien wist ik nog niet. Vanuit Rheine verscheen er dan een foto van de trein, en toen wist ik direct dat deze op de foto moest!
Aangezien het vanuit het westen tegen de avond zou opentrekken, besloot ik richting de Eempolder te rijden. Hier zou de trein iets voor half 8 moeten passeren, in een lekker avondlicht. Ik zorgde ervoor dat ik ruim op tijd was zodat ook nog de ICB met 1700 op de foto kon, maar helaas werd deze nog het slachtoffer van een van de laatste wolken. Tussen de ICB en LTE in konden de laatste wolken rond de zon mooi verdwijnen, en werd er intussen even wat bijgepraat met de aanwezigen. Een uur later na de passage van de ICB was het dan hoog tijd om dit bijzondere treintje te fotograferen!
Het is 19:20 als in een laagstaand voorjaarszonnetje de LTE 193 738 "The Enchanting Loreley" de Eempolder doorkruist met de naar mijn mening heel fraaie keteltrein 45410 vanuit Goświnowice naar Rotterdam Botlek. De al heel wat jaren oude Transchem ketels van het type "Zas" hebben onlangs een revisie gehad waardoor ze er zo goed als nieuw uitzien. Met name de ronde bufferschijven verraden dat deze ketels al heel wat jaren meegaan. Het blijft mooi om te zien hoe ook oude goederenwagens tegenwoordig steeds betere opknapbeurten krijgen, waardoor ze nog jaren meekunnen. Van mij mogen zulke oostblok wagensetjes wel vaker naar Nederland komen!
Direct nadat de 2233 aangekomen was in Beekbergen vertrok de goederentrein voor een slag naar Apeldoorn VAM. De VSM 2530 en 2459 zaten dit keer op de heenrit voorop terwijl de 52 3879 achterop de trein geplaatst was en dus terug naar Beekbergen de trein zou trekken.
Op de foto komt de VSM 52 3879 met goederentrein 783 langs de Els onderweg vanaf Apeldoorn VAM naar Beekbergen.

Dutch Windmill at the northwest corner of San Francisco's Golden Gate Park, built in 1902 to direct freshwater going to the sea back into the park, which is over 1000 acres.
Another windmill, the Murphy Windmill, the largest in the world, stands at the southwest corner of the park.
8253 and 8257 lead 8424 loaded grain from Gilgandra to Carrington seen at Branxton at 1247 on Saturday the 1st of July 2023. Oddly, this grain train ran direct from Gilgandra to Newcastle instead of via a stopover at PN’s major depot in Werris Creek.
DRS 37401 + 37422 are seen stopped in Carlisle Station for a crew change working 6X12 West Ealing - Tyne S.S. on January 9th, 2023.
Direct Rail Services owned Intercity liveried 37419 'Carl Haviland 1954 - 2012' ' leads 4x RHTT sets (642036 + 642050, 642019 + 642041, 642047 + 642024, 642011 + 642044) past Ely Dock Junction, 6Z60 1042 from York Thrall Europa (Holgate Works) to Stowmarket D.G.L, in preparation for this years Autumn RHTT season.

The direct stare of a SIka stag commands respect. Native to much of East Asia, the Sika Deer is also known as the 'Spotted' or 'Japanese Deer', 'Shika' being Japanese for 'Deer'. The population in Dorset is believed to have swam here from nearby Brownsea Island. The coat of this male is tending towards the dark grey winter coat rather than the chestnut red with whitish spots of summr.

We vertrokken direct weer terug naar Gambach voor een aantal treinen vanuit het zuiden.
Nadat er eerste twee keer DB Cargo passeerde was het de beurt aan IGE. De 185 716 voorzien van IGE reclame mocht op 16 juli 2019 een keteltrein vanuit Freilassing rijden. Als trein 48958 komt het geheel langs Gambach onderweg naar Gelsenkirchen Bismarck.

In de middag werd weer naar Valburg gereden voor de melding van Boxxpress en RFO. Vrijwel direct na aankomst kon Boxxpress 193 833, die zustermachine 193 701 bij zich had, worden gefotografeerd met trein 43347 van Maastvlakte West naar Kornwestheim. Voor mij de eerst keer dat ik Boxxpress fotografeer binnen onze landgrenzen. Valburg, 9 april 2020.

The legendary King Arthur has a direct association with the Castle Rocks of St John, courtesy of Sir Walter Scott’s epic poem of 1813, Bridal of Triermain. The poem tells the story of a young knight named Roland de Vaux who falls in love with a mysterious woman named Gyneth, who is revealed to be a fairy queen. The story takes place in the scenic Vale of St. John, near the town of Triermain. Gwyneth resides in the castle there (Castle Rock).
Synopsis of the poem:
The Bridal of Triermain interweaves three stories, all with a Lake District setting: the eighteenth-century courtship of Arthur and Lucy, the Arthurian Legend of 'Lyulph's Tale', and the twelfth-century romance of Sir Roland de Vaux.
In order to warn his aristocratic lover Lucy against excessive maidenly pride, the low-born poet Arthur recites 'Lyulph's Tale' in cantos I-II. He tells how how King Arthur is seduced by the enchantress Guendolen. When he abandons the pregnant Guendolen to resume his kingly duties, she swears revenge. Sixteen years later, the fruit of their union, Gyneth appears at Camelot to remind Arthur of his promise that should he and Guendolen produce a daughter, she would wed the bravest of the Knights of the Round Table. Arthur declares a tournament with Gyneth's hand as the prize but instructs her to halt the combat before lives are lost. As the instrument of her mother's wrath, however, she does nothing to end the ferocious fighting, until Merlin arises from a chasm in the ground to punish her. She is sentenced to slumber in Guendolen's enchanted castle until awakened by a knight as brave as any of the Round Table.
The poet Arthur's courtship of Lucy proves successful and, following their marriage, Lucy begs him to tell of Gyneth's fate. In the third and final canto, then, he recounts the quest of the twelfth-century knight Sir Roland de Vaux of Triermain. He has heard Gyneth's legend and sets out to find the enchanted castle. Having located it in the Valley of Saint John, he successfully passes through a series of allegorical dangers and temptations (Fear, Avarice, Sensuality, Ambition) to awaken Gyneth from her five hundred-year sleep and win her hand.
