This was from the morning gathering at the lek* - these are Lesser Prairie Chickens (they don't have as much brown in them). They share territory in some areas.

*A Lek is a hill/or rise area where birds and animals gather to do their courting and sparking!

Both ears raised, this beautiful Brown Hare gave me a direct stare showing its lovely facial patterning and long whiskers which give it a good sense of touch. Blood vessels in the ears help to cool the Brown Hare down after running or on a hot day.

This angry young lady paid us a visit every morning while staying in a remote cabin in the Texas hill country. Her fury here is mostly directed at a young, white tail deer that had also wondered onto the property.
