Церковь Покрова на Нерли внесена в Список всемирного наследия ЮНЕСКО.
Когда пишут и говорят об этом храме, обычно приводят слова Игоря Грабаря: «Церковь Покрова на Нерли близ Владимира является не только самым совершенным храмом, созданным на Руси, но и одним из величайших памятников мирового искусства».
Храм был возведен за один год в 1165 году князем Андреем Боголюбским.
Во времена своей «молодости» храм выглядел иначе, а холм-пьедестал, является делом рук человеческих.
Подземная часть храма составляет 5,30 м . В устье Нерли вырос искусственный холм, ставший пьедесталом для церкви Покрова и предохраняющий ее от коварных весенних вод. Холм был покрыт панцирем из белокаменных плит с водосточными желобами и лестницами, сбегающими к пристани.
Пропорции храма необыкновенно изящны и красивы. Часто этот храм сравнивают с образом красной девицы Здесь все направлено на достижение эффекта максимальной стройности и высоты. Множество деталей, еле уловимых, очень деликатных, подчеркивают вертикальную ось сооружения.
The Church of the Intercession on the Nerl, a UNESCO world heritage site.
When you write and say about this temple, usually cite the words of Igor Grabar, "the Church of the Intercession on the Nerl near Vladimir is not only the most perfect temple, created in Russia, but also one of the greatest monuments of world art".
The temple was erected in one year in 1165 by Prince Andrei Bogolyubsky.
In the days of his "youth" the temple looked different, and the hill-a pedestal, is the work of human hands.
The underground part of the temple is 5,30 m . At the mouth of the Nerl rose artificial hill, which has become the pedestal for the Church of the Intercession and protect it from the treacherous waters of the spring. The hill was covered with a shell of white stone slabs with gutters and stairs leading down to the Marina.
The proportions of the temple are unusually graceful and beautiful. Often this temple is compared with the image of maiden Here everything is directed on achieving maximal effect of slenderness and height. Many parts, subtle, very delicate, emphasize the vertical axis of the construction.

This was from the morning gathering at the lek* - these are Lesser Prairie Chickens (they don't have as much brown in them). They share territory in some areas.
*A Lek is a hill/or rise area where birds and animals gather to do their courting and sparking!

Direct Rail Services (DRS) 66424 'Driver Paul Scrivens' and BR Green 37032 (D6732) lead the 2C11 1119 Holt to Sheringham service out of Weyborune. Taken during the North Norfolk Railway Mixed Traction 2023 event.
DRS 37401 + 37422 are seen stopped in Carlisle Station for a crew change working 6X12 West Ealing - Tyne S.S. on January 9th, 2023.
St George in the East
Situated in Cannon Street Road, Whitechapel, London E1 0BH.
It was built between 1714 and 1729 with the funding from an Act of Parliament. It is one of the six London churches designed and built by famous architect Nicholas Hawksmoor.
The church was very expensive to build, at the cost of nearly £20k, it was designed to seat over 1,000 people.
In and around 1800, major work was done on the entrance steps. In 1820 a new vault was added, also the churchyard was drained. In 1829 the church was re-roofed. In 1871, box pews were removed in order to install new seating.
In 1880, 5 Venetian glass mosaics were installed in the apse, illustrating passion and resurrection scenes. The organ which was in poor state had to be rebuilt and between 1881-1886 this was completed by the firm Gray and Davidson.
In 1941 during the blitz the church received a direct hit from a bomb. The interior was destroyed by a severe fire that swept through the building. Fortunately the walls and towers survived intact. The mosaics were also saved but had to be restored.
A new interior was completed in 1964, designed by Arthur Bailey. The design, a much more simple plan.
Scenes from the film ‘The Long Good Friday’ were filmed in and around the churchyard.

Hay personas que dicen: “Tras creer en el Señor, nuestros pecados han sido perdonados y no somos pecadores, y cuando venga el Señor, podremos ser arrebatados directamente al reino de los cielos, porque la Escritura dice: ‘Porque con el corazón se cree para justicia, y con la boca se confiesa para salvación’ (Romanos 10:10)”. Pero otras dicen: “El Señor Jesús dijo: ‘En verdad os digo que si no os convertís y os hacéis como niños, no entraréis en el reino de los cielos’ (Mateo 18: 3). ‘No todo el que me dice: «Señor, Señor», entrará en el reino de los cielos, sino el que hace la voluntad de mi Padre que está en los cielos’ (Mateo 7:21). Según las palabras del Señor, solo los que hacen la voluntad del Padre celestial pueden entrar en el reino de los cielos. El Señor nos requiere que amemos a Dios con todo nuestro corazón, que amemos a nuestro prójimo como a nosotros mismos y que no odiemos ni tengamos celos de los demás. Sin embargo, aunque nuestros pecados han sido perdonados por la fe en el Señor, en contraste con lo que actuamos, no alcanzamos las demandas del Señor. Por ejemplo, a menudo mentimos y engañamos para proteger nuestros propios intereses; no tenemos tolerancia y paciencia a nuestra familia y amigos, y no somos capaces de amar a nuestro prójimo como a nosotros mismos; todavía podemos quejarnos de Dios cuando estamos desagradables, y no logramos el sincero amor a Él. Ahora, no podemos guardar los mandamientos del Señor, ni somos personas que hacen la voluntad de Dios, ¿realmente puede alguien así entrar en el reino de los cielos?

……Went for the Circus side of the theme in this weeks Smile on Saturday, the chair is a creation by the Daughter in Law from a few Christmases ago - made from a top off a bottle of Bubbly, balancing it was a challenge but not insurmountable! The Elephant came from Jill’s moms but needed a pair of Tusks - unlikely to be Ivory poachers, however a few minutes with a Crochet needle (also Jill’s moms) I fashioned a new pair for him! The Ball is a remnant from when our Grandson was little. And finally, the Big Top backdrop is the curtain we hang over the front door to keep the direct sun off it. Indeed it was natural sunlight here, ‘Click’ & hey presto - Smile On Saturday, well after some minor edits just in Lightroom only. Alan:-) HSoS……

Terwijl de eerste SŽ 363 van de vakantie verder bergopwaarts reed hadden we amper tijd om onze foto’s terug te kijken want we zetten direct de inhaalactie in naar het ochtendpunt nabij Črnotiče. Gelukkig voor ons kunnen de treinen veel minder helling aan waardoor het treinverkeer tussen Dekani en Črnotiče zo’n driemaal de hemelsbrede afstand nodig heeft om dezelfde hoogte te overbruggen: circa 21 i.p.v. 7 kilometer. Hoewel het ons ook ruim twintig minuten kostte om in Črnotiče ter plaatse te komen, kwamen we hierdoor toch ruimtijdig aan. Na een wandeling in de brandende zon konden was er tot onze blijdschap genoeg schaduw op de plek en viel ons een stilstaande trein náár de haven van Koper op die ogenschijnlijk moest wachten op verkeer vanuit de haven. Voor de tweede keer konden we zo loc 363-034 op de foto zetten maar tot onze verbazing vertrok de kruisende trein nog niet verder: er volgde nog wat:
Pal achter de eerste Sloveense “nez-cassé” rijdt op dinsdagmorgen 16 juli nóg zo’n loc de bergen in met eenzelfde soort trein. Met een kleurrijkere containertrein dan de ander sleurt de van ver aangekondigde SŽ 363-009 het bekende fotopunt Črnotiče voorbij terwijl het opnieuw een moderne e-loc is die achteraan helpt opduwen. Ook nu bleef een vertrek van de bulktrein op de achtergrond uit, dus konden we mogelijk nóg wat verwachten!

A spotless 66432 is pictured crossing Slateford viaduct with 4E65 from Mossend to Tees Dock.
This service is a relatively recent addition to the Scottish rail freight scene. When it started in November 2020 it was initially thought to be a short-term flow, however we're now 6 months in and it has yet to miss a week so I think it would be fair to assume it's a longer term thing.
The service runs once a week using the loco and wagons from the Inverness Tesco service, though it was slightly different this week as 66432 replaced 37716 which worked Yesterdays Inverness service at short notice following the failure of 68017.
While it was nice to get a clean loco in sunny conditions, the thing that makes this shot for me is cloud formations - much better than a solid blue or grey sky.
Sobre la carretera GR-5100, que une las localidades granandinas de Montejicar y Dehesas de Guadix, en el termino municipal de Guadahortuna, y Junto a la Estacion de Ferrocarril de Alamedilla - Guadahortuna, se levanta imponente, y salvando tambien al Rio Guadahortuna, el doble puente conocido como "Puente del Hacho".
Este doble puente consiste en el viejo, un puente de hierro inaugurado en el año 1898, y cuyos constructores fueron dos discípulos directos del arquitecto francés Gustave Eiffel, y que cumplio con su labor hasta el año 1979, cuando se construyó el nuevo puente para el ferrocarril.
