As a full-time father and husband I hardly make pictures of regular trains. Almost only when the SSN or VSM has one of their rare main line trips, I am able to catch some regular trains too. So what I catch with my camera of the NS (or other companies) trains is often a side catch of steam or museum material passing by. Fortunately I do find occasionally some time to make pictures.

D 0226 and its half sister D 0227 were prototype diesel shunting engines, built in 1956 by English Electric at its Vulcan Foundry in Newton-le-Willows to demonstrate the engines suitability. Originally numbered D226 and D227, their works numbers they were renumbered in August 1959 to avoid clashing with the numbers of new Class 40 locomotives.
Both engines were of an 0-6-0 configuration and powered by English Electric 6RKT engines of 500 hp. In service they were painted black with an orange stripe along the middle of the bodyside, which turned into a 'V' at the nose end. The two engines differed from each other in that D0226 had diesel-electric transmission and D0227 had diesel-hydraulic transmission.
Both engines were tested by British Rail at their Stratford depot in East London after which D0226 entered preservation with the Keighley and Worth Railway while D0227 was scrapped. Now painted in BR green D0226 is used to operate the works train and occasional passenger service.

Hunters Hill Bus Co Leyland Leopard PSU3/2R 5104 in Woolwich Road, Woolwich, Sydney, N.S.W., Australia.
The bus has a Commercial Vehicle Industries (CVI) body built with a completion date of 19 June, 1967. The bus is on Route 234 from Valentia Street Wharf, Woolwich to Gladesville. There is a Syd Wood built REO bus following and this will perform a short working trip to a point about half way along the route. Both buses will have connected at the wharf with an afternoon peak hour ferry from Circular Quay in Sydney that would have carried sufficient passengers to warrant the need for two buses.

With McCaig's Tower prominent on the skyline this can only Oban. No 27 040 waits with a train for Crianlarich and Glasgow.
Only platforms 3 and 4 survive, although there may be some sidings on the shore side - there were in 2001.
The tower was built by John McCaig, a wealthy philanthropic Scottish banker, who intended it should contain a museum and art gallery. However, construction eased on his death in 1902, his vision unfulfilled.

On our way back from Aberdeen to Harwich, we passed the Nene Valey Railway. We had a short stop there of course. The grounds were open, but unfortunately none of the locs was under fire. But a Black Five (frame) was shunted around and one of my favourite British locos was standing in front of the shed (tender first). It is a beautiful location with a marvellous station, signal box, railway crossing, turntable, etcetera.

Not long turned 25, but still managing to look about 15, your intrepid, tripod-equipped photographer stands rather self-consciously after tripping the self-timer and legging it into shot ...for scale, you understand. God, what a state. Looks like a recent DIY haircut with scissors and mirror ...they needed about a fortnight to grow out... but, oh! look at those trousers! I think I'd taken them up with some sort of iron-on tape, which made the bottoms stiff, as though there were wire hoops in the turn-ups. But, once again, I'd overdone it, resulting in the half-mast effect seen here. My problem was (and remains) short legs. This was not the correct way to disguise them. I remember the prickly heat effect of wearing this jumper, knitted for her milksop, no-girlfriend, stay-at-home son by my mother. Although I'd now passed twenty-five summers, I'd not learned that mid-September is still quite warm. September was autumn, wasn't it? I didn't want to feel chilly. Nylon shirt too. Jacket was ex Canadian air force, from Maggs, the army surplus shop in Staple Hill.

This year, I went with eldest son to the annual event "Sporen naar het verleden". In addition to its own locs, the guests of this year were the steam locomotive Tom of the Hoogovens Stoom IJmuiden and the locomotive 8 "Ooievaar" of the SHM. Next to these the Omc909 also made some rides. Several freight trains were also running, which had my mayor interest. It was a very successful event.
