Amtrak Champion southbound, led by EMD SDP40F locomotive 604 with 9 cars, sits alone on its last run in the station, with no one coming to see her for the last time at Saint Petersburg, Florida, 9-9-1977, Fred Clark, Jr. Back during the ACL days of their flagship train( "aka: Big Bertha,") the "Champion," I have seen trains with as many as 19 cars departing Saint Petersburg during 1955.

Standing on the bridge at the extreme end of the station, gives a good vantage point when the trains enter and leave the station.

Voorheen kwamen we regelmatig naar de ZLSM voor de stoomtreindagen. Helaas zijn die enkele jaren niet meer gehouden. Maar in 2023 was het gelukkig weer zover. De eigen 1040 reed onder stoom samen met de HSIJ 22 'Tom' en HSIJ 57 ' Bonne'. Ook stichting Crew 2454 met de 2454 en de mP 3029, de SMMR 2225, de SHD 2205 en De Karel stel 466 waren aanwezig. De SSN kwam met de 01 1075 en 23 023 met een extra rit langs. Er reden veel personentreinen, maar ook enkele goederentreinen voor de fotografen. Een erg geslaagd evenement op een schitterende dag.

 

We used to come to the ZLSM regularly for the steam train days. Unfortunately, they were not held for a few years. But in 2023 it was fortunately time again. Their own 1040 ran under steam together with the HSIJ 22 'Tom' and HSIJ 57 'Bonne'. Stichting Crew 2454 with the 2454 and the mP 3029, the SMMR 2225, the SHD 2205 and De Karel set 466 were also present. The SSN came along with the 01 1075 and 23 023 with an extra train from Rotterdam. Many passenger trains ran, but also some freight trains were scheduled for the photographers. A very successful event on a beautiful day.

 

Wir kamen regelmäßig zu den Dampfzugtagen der ZLSM. Leider haben sie mehreren Jahren nicht mehr stattgefunden. Aber glücklicherweise ist es 2023 erneut organisiert. Die eigene 1040 fuhr zusammen mit der HSIJ 22 „Tom“ und der HSIJ 57 „Bonne“ unter Dampf. Ebenfalls anwesend waren die Crew 2454 Foundation mit der 2454 und der mP 3029, die SMMR 2225, die SHD 2205 und das De Karel Set 466. Die SSN kam mit der 01 1075 und 23 023 mit einer Sonderfahrt aus Rotterdam. Es waren viele Personenzüge, aber auch einige Güterzüge für die Fotografen da. Eine sehr gelungene Veranstaltung an einem wunderschönen Tag.

Elk jaar wordt met Hemelvaart de Nationale Stoomtreindag georganiseerd. Meestal zijn we dan bij de SGB of de RTM te vinden. Dit keer wilde ik, naar aanleiding van foto's die ik in Fb had gezien, eens naar de VSM. Samen met mijn oudste zoon op pad naar Loenen, waar we bijna een privé showtje goederenwagens rangeren hadden. Een groot deel van de ochtend hebben we bij de VSM doorgebracht, waarna we in de middag naar Zwolle zijn gegaan om daar nog de 1700 in dienst te bekijken.

 

Every year the National Steam Train Day is organized during Ascension Day. We can usually be found at the SGB or the RTM. This time, based on photos I had seen in Facebook, I wanted to go to the VSM. Together with my eldest son we went to Loenen, where we almost had a private show of shunting freight wagons. We spent a large part of the morning at the VSM, after which we went to Zwolle in the afternoon to view the 1700 in service there.

 

Jedes Jahr wird am Himmelfahrtstag der Nationale Dampfzugtag organisiert. In der Regel sind wir beim SGB oder beim RTM zu finden. Diesmal wollte ich, basierend auf Fotos, die ich auf Facebook gesehen hatte, zum VSM gehen. Zusammen mit meinem ältesten Sohn fuhren wir nach Loenen, wo wir fast eine Privatschau von Rangiergüterwagen hatten. Wir verbrachten den größten Teil des Vormittags im VSM und fuhren dann am Nachmittag nach Zwolle, um den dort im Einsatz befindlichen 1700 zu besichtigen.

Elk jaar organiseert de MBS een Najaarsstyoomdag. Dit jaar kwam ook de 162 in actie met een net opgeknapte boxcar. Ook werden er weer enkele slagen gereden met de Wismar railbus. Het was helaas erg regenachtig, wat echter wel weer bijdroeg aan de sfeer.

 

Every year the MBS organizes an Autumn Stoom Day. This year, the 162 came into action with a recently refurbished boxcar also. There were also some rides with the Wismar railbus. Unfortunately it was raining a lot, although it did add to the atmosphere.

 

Jedes Jahr organisiert die MBS einen Autumn Stoom Day. In diesem Jahr kam der 162 auch mit einem kürzlich renovierten Güterwagen zum Einsatz. Es gab auch einige fahrten mit dem Wismar-Schienenbus. Leider war es sehr regnerisch, was aber zur Atmosphäre beitrug.

Ex-BR Class 55 'Deltic' 55019 Royal Highland Fusilier was the first of the class to visit the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway. It is seen heading the 9.30am service from Toddington to Cheltenham Racecourse station on the first day of the railway's Diesel Gala.

Built by English Electric, the Deltics (named after the two Napier Deltic engines which powered the locomotive) displaced the Gresley Pacifics on the East Coast main line between King's Cross and Edinburgh.

55019 ran from 1961 until withdrawal in 1981. It is owned by the Deltic Preservation Society.

1/8th of Norfolk Southern 6350's 16 cylinder prime mover soaks up some sun and breathes in a little cool late summer air, as it rests in Richwood before departing with Canadian Pacific's train 470.

On one of my Railfan Trips, I started in Apollo Beach near the Big Bend Coal Fired Power Plant, where a MOSAIC (formerly IMC Agrico) NW-2m Endcab Switcher was setting off two Hopper Cars on July 27, 2005. Notice the ODD Shaped Cab ! This Green & Cream Colored NW2 has a Modified Cab.

I took these two Photographs somewhere near the intersection of Pembroke Road & Wyandotte Road on July 27, 2005 with my Canon EOS Digital Rebel Camera.

Dit jaar ben ik weer met mijn beide zonen en mijn vader naar Terug naar Toen van de VSM geweest. En natuurlijk stonden er natuurlijk weer veel locs onder stoom. Dit jaar was de 23 023 van de SSN weer te gast en werd er een line-up van de drie rijvaardige 23ers georganiseerd. De gebruikelijke goederentreinen tussen Beekbergen en Apeldoorn reden dit jaar alleen in de ochtend. Dus daar lag in de ochtend de focus op. In de middag werd vooral rondom Loenen doorgebracht. Het was weer een schitterend spektakel met prachtig weer.

 

Dieses Jahr bin ich mit meinen beiden Söhnen und mein Vater nach Zurück nach Damals der VSM gefahren. Und natürlich waren wieder viele Loks unter Dampf. In diesem Jahr war der 23 023 der SSN zu Gast und eine Aufstellung der drei fahrenden 23er wurde organisiert. Die üblichen Dampf Güterzüge zwischen Beekbergen und Apeldoorn liefen dieses Jahr nur am Morgen. Das war der Fokus am Morgen. Am Nachmittag wurde hauptsächlich um Loenen herum verbracht. Es war wieder ein großartiges Spektakel mit schönem Wetter.

 

This year my both sons, my father and I went the event "Terug naar Toen (Back to then) by the VSM. And of course, many locs were under steam again. This year the SSN's 23 023 was guest locomotive and a line-up of the three running 23ers was organized. The usual steam goods trains between Beekbergen and Apeldoorn were only running in the morning this year. So that was the focus for the morning. In the afternoon we mainly spend our time around Loenen. Again it was a magnificent spectacle with beautiful weather.

When the Spanish government decided to build the Spanish high speed lines in the Standard European gauge, they needed to be quickly provided from locomotives and rolling stock at that gauge. They hired fourteen engines (ex L37 British Railway series) from EWS. The Spanish rail fans call these beauties "Piggies" and "the English ones".

 

The locomotives that I captured in the picture were the L28 (was scrapped in 2011) and the L34 that has returned to the United Kingdom.

In de zomervakantie van 2023 moesten mijn vrouw en ik wegens familie omstandigheden halsoverkop naar Aberdeen, Schotland. Tijdens een van de laatste dagen daar, bleek de Caledonian Railway een speciaal evenement te hebben; de Caledonian Railway Sulzer Diesel Gala. Diverse door diesellocomotieven getrokken treinen reden tussen Brechin en Bridge of Dun. Op diverse plekken langs de lijn heb ik gefotografeerd en natuurlijk ook zelf weer een ritje gemaakt. Toch nog een geslaagde dag geweest.

 

During the summer holidays of 2023, my wife and I had to rush to Aberdeen, Scotland, due to family circumstances. During one of the last days there, the Caledonian Railway turned out to be having a special event; the Caledonian Railway Sulzer Diesel Gala. Several diesel locomotive-hauled trains ran between Brechin and Bridge of Dun. I took photographs at various places along the line and of course also went for a ride myself. Still a successful day.

 

Während der Sommerferien 2023 mussten meine Frau und ich aus familiären Gründen eilig nach Aberdeen, Schottland, reisen. An einem der letzten Tage dort hatte die Caledonian Railway ein besonderes Ereignis; die Caledonian Railway Sulzer Diesel Gala. Zwischen Brechin und Bridge of Dun verkehrten mehrere von Diesellokomotiven gezogene Züge. Ich habe an verschiedenen Stellen entlang der Strecke Fotos gemacht und bin natürlich auch selbst mitgefahren. Dennoch ein erfolgreicher Tag.

The Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) known as CP Rail between 1968 and 1996 and simply Canadian Pacific, is a historic Canadian Class I railway incorporated in 1881. The railway is owned by Canadian Pacific Railway Limited, which began operations as legal owner in a corporate restructuring in 2001.

 

The railway was first built between eastern Canada and British Columbia between 1881 and 1885 (connecting with Ottawa Valley and Georgian Bay area lines built earlier), fulfilling a commitment extended to British Columbia when it entered Confederation in 1871; it was Canada's first transcontinental railway.

 

In 1937, the CPR acquired its first diesel-electric locomotive, a custom-built one-of-a-kind switcher numbered 7000. This locomotive was not successful and was not repeated. Production-model diesels were imported from American Locomotive Company (Alco) starting with five model S-2 yard switchers in 1943 and followed by further orders.

 

In 1949, the CPR acquired 13 Baldwin-designed locomotives from the Canadian Locomotive Company for its isolated Esquimalt and Nanaimo Railway and Vancouver Island was quickly dieselized. Following that successful experiment, the CPR started to dieselize its main network. Dieselization was completed 11 years later, with its last steam locomotive running on 6 November 1960.

 

The CPR's first-generation locomotives were mostly made by General Motors Diesel and Montreal Locomotive Works (American Locomotive Company designs), with some made by the Canadian Locomotive Company to Baldwin and Fairbanks Morse designs.

Union Pacific Engine #8468 sits on a siding in the Colfax train yard awaiting it's dispatch orders. Colfax has the distinction of being the first town that the Central Pacific Railroad reached when building the Transcontinental Railroad through the Sierra Nevada Range. It was originally named Illinoistown but the name was subsequently changed to Colfax in honor of Schuyler Colfax, Vice President under Ulysses Grant, in what was a blatant attempt to obtain funds from the U.S. Government by appealing to Schuyler's vanity. What? Play on a politician's vanity? As you can imagine it worked like a charm and Illinoistown happily became known as Colfax, the first stop for the eastbound Transcontinental Railroad out of Sacramento CA. Never mind that a couple of years later old Schuyler was implicated in the Credit Mobiler scandal and was forced to leave office under a dark cloud.

 

The history of the railroad in the U.S. is as colorful as it was unethical. One thing's for certain: the old Railroad Barons were every bit as ruthless and devious as those responsible for our modern day financial and political scandals. Maybe that's why they're affectionately known as the "Robber Barons." All aboard and keep a close eye on your wallet.

Penn Central former New Haven Railroad ALCO FA-1 locomotive 1333, wearing the Alpert Paint Scheme is seen in the yard at South Boston, Massachusetts, 1969. It appears that the PC painted the rear two side panels and then slapped their number on the locomotive. Coupled to locomotive 1333 is former New Haven Railroad McGinnis scheme painted ALCO FB-2 diesel electric locomotive 0465.

Denver & Rio Grande Western eastbound Rio Grande Zephyr led by EMD F9A locomotive # 5771 is seen rounding a curve as the morning sun breaks through the clouds and the rain stops in Utah, Summer 1980. You can see the wet highway on the right side of the photo. This was a real on and off day for photography because there were so many changes in the weather conditions along the route back to Denver. There appears to be one lone vehicle driving along the highway. The sunlight is highlighting the locomotives and the combine. One small thing that I like about this photo is the manner in which the telegraph pole insulators are being lite up by the sunlight. Again in this photo there is the reflection of the locomotives and combine on the dome coach side panels and window.

I am still experimenting with Photoshop Elements 10™ Filters with a Conrail Locomotive Photograph that I took several years ago ! For this one, I used the Plastic Wrap Filter, however I think it needs something else ! The Passenger Coach on the Extreme Right Side of my Photograph was identified by flickr member "R36 Coach" as a Long Island Railroad Passenger Coach (see His comment below).

 

NOTE: I set the Date that I created this Photograph as the Date Taken. I don't remember the actual Date that I took the Original Photo on the Morristown & Erie in New Jersey, but it was in the Early to Mid 1990's.
