'Sporen naar het Verleden'is het jaarlijkse evenement bij de SGB. Diverse eigen locomotieven vaak ook gast materieel is aanwezig om dit evenement op te luisteren. Dit jaar was de 'Blauwe Engel' van het spoorwegmuseum aanwezig. Dit dieseltreinstel is vernoemd naar Marlene Dietrich, die op het moment dat het voor het eerst in Nederland op de rails kwam, wereldberoemd was.
Diverse treinen reden tussen Goes en Hoedekenskerke. Natuurlijk veel gefotografeerd langs het spoor, maar een ritje in de Blauwe Engel en de stoomtrein kon natuurlijk ook niet achter blijven. Verder hebben de kinderen zich uitstekend vermaakt in de speeltuin. Het was een geslaagde dag uit voor de hele familie.
'Tracks to the past' is the annual event at the SGB. Various own locomotives and often also guest locomotives are present to liven up this event. This year the 'Blue Angel' of the Dutch railway museum was present. This diesel train set is named after Marlene Dietrich, who was world famous when this train got into service in the Netherlands.
Several trains ran between Goes and Hoedekenskerke. Of course I made a lot photographs along the track, but a ride in the Blue Angel and the steam train could not be left behind. Furthermore, the children had a great time in the playground. It was a nice day out for the whole family.
'Spuren in die Vergangenheit' ist die jährliche Veranstaltung der SGB. Verschiedene eigene Lokomotiven, oft auch Gast Züge, verleihen dieser Veranstaltung Glanz. In diesem Jahr war der 'Blaue Engel' des Eisenbahnmuseums anwesend. Dieses Dieselzugset ist nach Marlene Dietrich benannt, die weltberühmt war, als es in den Niederlanden zum ersten Mal auf die Schienen kam.
Mehrere Züge fuhren zwischen Goes und Hoedekenskerke. Natürlich habe ich viele Fotos entlang der Strecke gemacht, aber eine Fahrt mit dem Blauen Engel und dem Dampfzug konnte auch nicht zurückgelassen werden. Außerdem hatten die Kinder eine tolle Zeit auf dem Spielplatz. Es war ein erfolgreicher Tag für die ganze Familie.

Standing on the bridge at the extreme end of the station, gives a good vantage point when the trains enter and leave the station.
New York Central ALCO FA-1 # 1020 & # 1027 diesel electric locomotives are seen at the Mott Haven Yard in New York City, late 1950's. This is very interesting to see these lightening stripped freight service diesel locomotives in the third rail territory, where normally only DC motors roam. In the distant background you may observe an old NYC "S" motor directly behind the diesel locomotives. Then another old NYC "S" motor is seen behind the diesel locomotive on the right side of the photo.

In de zomervakantie van 2023 moesten mijn vrouw en ik wegens familie omstandigheden halsoverkop naar Aberdeen, Schotland. Tijdens een van de laatste dagen daar, bleek de Caledonian Railway een speciaal evenement te hebben; de Caledonian Railway Sulzer Diesel Gala. Diverse door diesellocomotieven getrokken treinen reden tussen Brechin en Bridge of Dun. Op diverse plekken langs de lijn heb ik gefotografeerd en natuurlijk ook zelf weer een ritje gemaakt. Toch nog een geslaagde dag geweest.
During the summer holidays of 2023, my wife and I had to rush to Aberdeen, Scotland, due to family circumstances. During one of the last days there, the Caledonian Railway turned out to be having a special event; the Caledonian Railway Sulzer Diesel Gala. Several diesel locomotive-hauled trains ran between Brechin and Bridge of Dun. I took photographs at various places along the line and of course also went for a ride myself. Still a successful day.
Während der Sommerferien 2023 mussten meine Frau und ich aus familiären Gründen eilig nach Aberdeen, Schottland, reisen. An einem der letzten Tage dort hatte die Caledonian Railway ein besonderes Ereignis; die Caledonian Railway Sulzer Diesel Gala. Zwischen Brechin und Bridge of Dun verkehrten mehrere von Diesellokomotiven gezogene Züge. Ich habe an verschiedenen Stellen entlang der Strecke Fotos gemacht und bin natürlich auch selbst mitgefahren. Dennoch ein erfolgreicher Tag.

Blue Ridge Southern Railroad EMD SD40-2 locomotive # 4205 cab view with the yard and Evergreen Paper Food Containment Products Facility seen in the background, Canton, North Carolina, 9-16-2022. The locomotive is spotted on a maintneance and service stub end siding. The full railroad yard has fencing placed along side of it, which in certain situations make it hard to be photographed. Bringing a ladder or using a drone would be best.

Norfolk Southern (former Southern Railway) EMD GP50 diesel locomotive # 7024, along with other EMD locomotives, are seen while leading a train of TOFC along a main line in Georgia, November 1987. Across the tracks is Florida's noted railfan photographer Fred Clark Jr. with his back turned just after capturing his train image. We were both out and about photographing trains after chasing the N&W steam locomotive # 1218 and its Suwanee Railfan Excursion Train to Valdosta, Georgia.

David Brown tractor from 1958 PUN 747

New Haven Railroad ALCO DL-109 locomotive 0709 in the lead, along with locomotive 0700, head a passenger train that is stopped at a station platform in an unknown location, 8-31-1946. Both locomotives are wearing different paint schemes, one with pin stripes and the other in the earlier more traditional scheme. These locomotives have not been modified with the removal of the side windows along with the screen coverings being installed and other updates to bring them to the final version of DER-1c. Most likely both of these locomotives are now in the DER-1b configuration. You can easily see the engineer looking back on his train and most likely for the conductor's hand signal. There is a tell-tail low clearance warning structure located over the locomotives.

Normally this second station platform track was typically assigned to the Southland, but from the look of this train with all of the headend equipment it appears to be the later departing train 38 (The Jax Mail).

Dit jaar ben ik weer met mijn beide zonen en mijn vader naar Terug naar Toen van de VSM geweest. En natuurlijk stonden er natuurlijk weer veel locs onder stoom. Dit jaar was de 23 023 van de SSN weer te gast en werd er een line-up van de drie rijvaardige 23ers georganiseerd. De gebruikelijke goederentreinen tussen Beekbergen en Apeldoorn reden dit jaar alleen in de ochtend. Dus daar lag in de ochtend de focus op. In de middag werd vooral rondom Loenen doorgebracht. Het was weer een schitterend spektakel met prachtig weer.
Dieses Jahr bin ich mit meinen beiden Söhnen und mein Vater nach Zurück nach Damals der VSM gefahren. Und natürlich waren wieder viele Loks unter Dampf. In diesem Jahr war der 23 023 der SSN zu Gast und eine Aufstellung der drei fahrenden 23er wurde organisiert. Die üblichen Dampf Güterzüge zwischen Beekbergen und Apeldoorn liefen dieses Jahr nur am Morgen. Das war der Fokus am Morgen. Am Nachmittag wurde hauptsächlich um Loenen herum verbracht. Es war wieder ein großartiges Spektakel mit schönem Wetter.
This year my both sons, my father and I went the event "Terug naar Toen (Back to then) by the VSM. And of course, many locs were under steam again. This year the SSN's 23 023 was guest locomotive and a line-up of the three running 23ers was organized. The usual steam goods trains between Beekbergen and Apeldoorn were only running in the morning this year. So that was the focus for the morning. In the afternoon we mainly spend our time around Loenen. Again it was a magnificent spectacle with beautiful weather.

New Haven Railroad early FM DERS- 3 class H16-44 locomotive 593 is seen on a siding in the snow, ca late 1950's. Always did like to see the Raymond Lowey styled side windows on the cab and the stylish end treatments on the hoods. The 1950 delivered first batch of FM H16-44 locomotives with Westinghouse electrical gear in 1950 were not as robust as the later batch from 1956, which had GE electrical gear and that could also MU with other New Haven freight road power locomotives. These earlier locomotives shortly after receipt were assigned to freight switching duties and to local freight train service for the most part. The crews liked the lower platform height on these locomotives as compared to the high platforms on the later model which was based on the FM Trainmaster locomotive cab and body design, but only it was shorter in size. The later model was an improved version with modifications made to the diesel prime mover and it had improved electrical gear making it a fairly good performer in road freight service. There appears to be an employee walking away from the cab end of the locomotive that is seen in the background.

Samen met mijn zoon zijn we weer twee dagen naar de MBS Najaarsstoomdagen geweest. Dit jaar reed, naast de Wismar railbus, de Magda en Kikker, de ELNA 152 en de 2 'Cockerill' diverse personen en goederentreinen. Ook de pomplorrie en de twee locjes MBS 12 Rij-ijzer, 't Gekje' en MBS 10 'Nijverdal' reden een slag naar Zoutindustrie. Verder stonden in Haaksbergen de MBS 3 T3 89 7720 en MBS 4 DHE 353 in het zwart buiten opgesteld. En in de loods stond de TET 1, schitterend gerestaureerd.

The pump trolley and the two small locomotives MBS 12 Rij-ijzer, 't Gekje', and MBS 10 'Nijverdal' also made a run to Zoutindustrie. Furthermore, the MBS 3 T3 89 7720 and MBS 4 DHE 353 were displayed outside in black in Haaksbergen. And inside the shed stood the TET 1, beautifully restored.

Die Schlauchbahn und die beiden kleinen Lokomotiven MBS 12 „Rij-ijzer, 't Gekje“ und MBS 10 „Nijverdal“ fuhren ebenfalls nach Zoutindustrie. Außerdem waren die MBS 3 „T3 89 7720“ und die MBS 4 „DHE 353“ in Haaksbergen im Freien in Schwarz ausgestellt. Und im Lokschuppen stand die wunderschön restaurierte TET 1.

New Haven Railroad GE 44 ton switch engines # 800 & # 802 are seen while spotted on a siding in the electrified territory, late 1950's. Do not know the exact location where these switchers are located. You could find these small GE switchers at various locations all around the railroad.

Union Pacific Engine #8468 sits on a siding in the Colfax train yard awaiting it's dispatch orders. Colfax has the distinction of being the first town that the Central Pacific Railroad reached when building the Transcontinental Railroad through the Sierra Nevada Range. It was originally named Illinoistown but the name was subsequently changed to Colfax in honor of Schuyler Colfax, Vice President under Ulysses Grant, in what was a blatant attempt to obtain funds from the U.S. Government by appealing to Schuyler's vanity. What? Play on a politician's vanity? As you can imagine it worked like a charm and Illinoistown happily became known as Colfax, the first stop for the eastbound Transcontinental Railroad out of Sacramento CA. Never mind that a couple of years later old Schuyler was implicated in the Credit Mobiler scandal and was forced to leave office under a dark cloud.
The history of the railroad in the U.S. is as colorful as it was unethical. One thing's for certain: the old Railroad Barons were every bit as ruthless and devious as those responsible for our modern day financial and political scandals. Maybe that's why they're affectionately known as the "Robber Barons." All aboard and keep a close eye on your wallet.
