New York Central ALCO FA-1 # 1020 & # 1027 diesel electric locomotives are seen at the Mott Haven Yard in New York City, late 1950's. This is very interesting to see these lightening stripped freight service diesel locomotives in the third rail territory, where normally only DC motors roam. In the distant background you may observe an old NYC "S" motor directly behind the diesel locomotives. Then another old NYC "S" motor is seen behind the diesel locomotive on the right side of the photo.

Elk jaar organiseert de MBS een Najaarsstyoomdag. Dit jaar kwam ook de 162 in actie met een net opgeknapte boxcar. Ook werden er weer enkele slagen gereden met de Wismar railbus. Het was helaas erg regenachtig, wat echter wel weer bijdroeg aan de sfeer.
Every year the MBS organizes an Autumn Stoom Day. This year, the 162 came into action with a recently refurbished boxcar also. There were also some rides with the Wismar railbus. Unfortunately it was raining a lot, although it did add to the atmosphere.
Jedes Jahr organisiert die MBS einen Autumn Stoom Day. In diesem Jahr kam der 162 auch mit einem kürzlich renovierten Güterwagen zum Einsatz. Es gab auch einige fahrten mit dem Wismar-Schienenbus. Leider war es sehr regnerisch, was aber zur Atmosphäre beitrug.

In de nacht van 6 op 7 februari trok er een sneeuwstorm over het land. Met een code rood, was vervolgens al het verkeer ontregeld of kwam volledig stil te liggen. Zo ook bij de spoorwegen. Tegen het eind van de week kwam het treinverkeer langzaamaan weer op gang en werd het weer, hoewel nog steeds koud, steeds mooier. Dus een mooie reden om er nog even op uit te trekken met mijn oudste zoon.
On the night of 6 to 7 February, a snowstorm swept the country. With a code red, all traffic was subsequently disrupted or came to a complete standstill. This is also the case with the railways. Towards the end of the week, train traffic was slowly picking up again and the weather, although still cold, was getting better and better. So a good reason to go out with my oldest son to make some pictures.
In der Nacht vom 6. auf den 7. Februar traf ein Schneesturm das Land. Mit einem Code Rot wurde der gesamte Verkehr unterbrochen oder kam zum Stillstand. Dies gilt auch für die Eisenbahnen. Gegen Ende der Woche nahm der Zugverkehr langsam wieder zu und das Wetter wurde, obwohl es immer noch kalt war, immer besser. Ein guter Grund, mit meinem ältesten Sohn auszugehen um Bilder zu machen.

The train is still gaining altitude for its approach to Moffat Tunnel. On the roadbed you can see the new replacement welded ribbon rail to be installed. Numerous sections of the main line are being upgraded with the installation of welded rail.

Buckingham Branch Engine 7 riding at the rear as Engine 611 heads back to Victoria Station to wait for the next day's Autumn excursion.
Buckingham Branch Railroad (reporting mark BB) is a Class III short-line railroad operating over 275 miles (443 km) of historic and strategic trackage in Central Virginia. Sharing overhead traffic with CSX and Amtrak, the company's headquarters are in Dillwyn, Virginia in the former Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad (C&O) station, itself a historic landmark in the community. The railroad was featured in the January 2012 issue of Trains Magazine. It is referenced in the How It’s Made episode “Railway Bridge Ties”, showing it crossing a curved bridge.
Buckingham Branch Railroads' tracks are located in the heart of Central Virginia. The routing was largely constructed in the 19th century by several railroad companies. These include the Louisa Railroad, the Virginia Central Railroad, the state-owned Blue Ridge Railroad (with famous tunnels designed by state engineer Claudius Crozet and financed by the Virginia Board of Public Works), and the Covington and Ohio Railroad. All of those lines became part of Collis Huntington's Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad (C&O) in the 1870s, which connected the Chesapeake Bay with the valleys of the New River and Kanawha River, leading to the Ohio River Valley and thence the Mississippi River. This would have to be one of my favourite diesel engines. This is the 42 class in Ho scale, with the NSW railway colours form the 80's yellow and Indian-red.
'Sporen naar het Verleden'is het jaarlijkse evenement bij de SGB. Diverse eigen locomotieven vaak ook gast materieel is aanwezig om dit evenement op te luisteren. Dit jaar was de 'Blauwe Engel' van het spoorwegmuseum aanwezig. Dit dieseltreinstel is vernoemd naar Marlene Dietrich, die op het moment dat het voor het eerst in Nederland op de rails kwam, wereldberoemd was.
Diverse treinen reden tussen Goes en Hoedekenskerke. Natuurlijk veel gefotografeerd langs het spoor, maar een ritje in de Blauwe Engel en de stoomtrein kon natuurlijk ook niet achter blijven. Verder hebben de kinderen zich uitstekend vermaakt in de speeltuin. Het was een geslaagde dag uit voor de hele familie.
'Tracks to the past' is the annual event at the SGB. Various own locomotives and often also guest locomotives are present to liven up this event. This year the 'Blue Angel' of the Dutch railway museum was present. This diesel train set is named after Marlene Dietrich, who was world famous when this train got into service in the Netherlands.
Several trains ran between Goes and Hoedekenskerke. Of course I made a lot photographs along the track, but a ride in the Blue Angel and the steam train could not be left behind. Furthermore, the children had a great time in the playground. It was a nice day out for the whole family.

Mehrere Züge fuhren zwischen Goes und Hoedekenskerke. Natürlich habe ich viele Fotos entlang der Strecke gemacht, aber eine Fahrt mit dem Blauen Engel und dem Dampfzug konnte auch nicht zurückgelassen werden. Außerdem hatten die Kinder eine tolle Zeit auf dem Spielplatz. Es war ein erfolgreicher Tag für die ganze Familie.

Dit jaar waren dat de SHM 5 ' Enkhuizen', de SHD 2205, de CREW 2454 Plan U stel 151, de SSN 23 023 en de eigen locs SGB 22 'Otter' en 264 'Sik'. Daarnaast stonden op het depot in Goes de SGB omC 910 en omC 909, CREW 2454 C9002 'Jaap', SHD 302282 'Anneke' en SHD Plan D 60 84 978 1 005-1 Meetrijtuig CTO ter bezichtiging. Genoeg te zien dus. Het was schitterend weer en we hebben ons dus weer prima vermaakt.

The weather was beautiful and we had a great time again.

Nur wenige Augenblicke nachdem der Schnellzug R 933 nach Košice gezogen von 757.018 die Szenerie bei Jovice passiert hat rollen 751.036 und 751.206 mit dem Kalkzug Pn 51154 aus Turňa nad Bodvou am Betrachter vorbei. Als zusätzliche Unterstützung für die Bergfahrt läuft auch noch 751.126 am Zugschluss mit.
New Haven Railroad ALCO DL-109 locomotive 0709 in the lead, along with locomotive 0700, head a passenger train that is stopped at a station platform in an unknown location, 8-31-1946. Both locomotives are wearing different paint schemes, one with pin stripes and the other in the earlier more traditional scheme. These locomotives have not been modified with the removal of the side windows along with the screen coverings being installed and other updates to bring them to the final version of DER-1c. Most likely both of these locomotives are now in the DER-1b configuration. You can easily see the engineer looking back on his train and most likely for the conductor's hand signal. There is a tell-tail low clearance warning structure located over the locomotives.

New Haven Railroad ALCO DL-109 locomotive 0732 & another are stopped with a Shore Line Boston bound passenger train at the station in New London, Connecticut, ca early 1950's. The first car on this train appears to be a lightweight diner followed by a heavyweight parlor car and possibly a lightweight parlor car after that and then coaches. It appears that the train conductor is standing on the fireman's side ladder and is talking to the cab crew. Then on the right side platform area there appears to be another trainman in uniform standing. On the left side there seems to be many observers checking out the train. Then in the background you can see the locomotive storage and maintenance area, along with the old coaling tower. In the locomotive storage area are some ALCO road switchers and a couple of Budd RDC's. The harbor seen in the background leads out to either Long Island Sound or to the Atlantic Ocean. Various ferry services operates out of this harbor area with connections to Block Island and many other islands.

The Sandersville Railroad (SAN) was chartered in 1893 as a subsidiary of the Central of Georgia Railroad to run from a connection of that railroad in Tennille to Sandersville. It was extended north five miles from Sandersville to a kaolin mine and processing plants near Deepstep, GA.
Nicknamed The Kaolin Road, the Sandersville operates nine route miles along with two branch lines. The company rosters four SW500s, one MP15DC and two slug units which they call boosters.

Norfolk Southern (former Southern Railway) EMD GP50 diesel locomotive # 7024, along with other EMD locomotives, are seen while leading a train of TOFC along a main line in Georgia, November 1987. Across the tracks is Florida's noted railfan photographer Fred Clark Jr. with his back turned just after capturing his train image. We were both out and about photographing trains after chasing the N&W steam locomotive # 1218 and its Suwanee Railfan Excursion Train to Valdosta, Georgia.

Naast de eigen locs, waren dit jaar stoomloc Tom van Hoogovens Stoom IJmuiden en loc 8 Ooievaar van de SHM aanwezig. Ook maakte de omC 909 enkele ritten. Dit jaar werden ook meerdere goederentreinen gereden, waar voor mij de nadruk op lag. Het was weer een erg geslaagd evenement.

In diesem Jahr wurden auch mehrere Güterzüge gefahren, die besonderes meine Interesse hatten. Es war wieder eine sehr erfolgreiche Veranstaltung

In addition to its own locs, the guests of this year were the steam locomotive Tom of the Hoogovens Stoom IJmuiden and the locomotive 8 "Ooievaar" of the SHM. Next to these the Omc909 also made some rides. Several freight trains were also running, which had my mayor interest. It was a very successful event.
Elk jaar wordt met Hemelvaart de Nationale Stoomtreindag georganiseerd. Meestal zijn we dan bij de SGB of de RTM te vinden. Dit keer wilde ik, naar aanleiding van foto's die ik in Fb had gezien, eens naar de VSM. Samen met mijn oudste zoon op pad naar Loenen, waar we bijna een privé showtje goederenwagens rangeren hadden. Een groot deel van de ochtend hebben we bij de VSM doorgebracht, waarna we in de middag naar Zwolle zijn gegaan om daar nog de 1700 in dienst te bekijken.
Every year the National Steam Train Day is organized during Ascension Day. We can usually be found at the SGB or the RTM. This time, based on photos I had seen in Facebook, I wanted to go to the VSM. Together with my eldest son we went to Loenen, where we almost had a private show of shunting freight wagons. We spent a large part of the morning at the VSM, after which we went to Zwolle in the afternoon to view the 1700 in service there.

Diesmal wollte ich, basierend auf Fotos, die ich auf Facebook gesehen hatte, zum VSM gehen. Zusammen mit meinem ältesten Sohn fuhren wir nach Loenen, wo wir fast eine Privatschau von Rangiergüterwagen hatten. Wir verbrachten den größten Teil des Vormittags im VSM und fuhren dann am Nachmittag nach Zwolle, um den dort im Einsatz befindlichen 1700 zu besichtigen.
In de zomervakantie van 2023 moesten mijn vrouw en ik wegens familie omstandigheden halsoverkop naar Aberdeen, Schotland. Tijdens een van de laatste dagen daar, bleek de Caledonian Railway een speciaal evenement te hebben; de Caledonian Railway Sulzer Diesel Gala. Diverse door diesellocomotieven getrokken treinen reden tussen Brechin en Bridge of Dun. Op diverse plekken langs de lijn heb ik gefotografeerd en natuurlijk ook zelf weer een ritje gemaakt. Toch nog een geslaagde dag geweest.
During the summer holidays of 2023, my wife and I had to rush to Aberdeen, Scotland, due to family circumstances. During one of the last days there, the Caledonian Railway turned out to be having a special event; the Caledonian Railway Sulzer Diesel Gala. Several diesel locomotive-hauled trains ran between Brechin and Bridge of Dun. I took photographs at various places along the line and of course also went for a ride myself. Still a successful day.
Während der Sommerferien 2023 mussten meine Frau und ich aus familiären Gründen eilig nach Aberdeen, Schottland, reisen. An einem der letzten Tage dort hatte die Caledonian Railway ein besonderes Ereignis; die Caledonian Railway Sulzer Diesel Gala. Zwischen Brechin und Bridge of Dun verkehrten mehrere von Diesellokomotiven gezogene Züge. Ich habe an verschiedenen Stellen entlang der Strecke Fotos gemacht und bin natürlich auch selbst mitgefahren. Dennoch ein erfolgreicher Tag.
