New Haven Railroad DERS-3 class FM H16-44 Road Switcher # 562, is seen in the locomotive service area of the yard at Framingham, Massachusetts, February 25, 1951. The ten locomotives in this series that were delivered in 1950, were all renumbered by the end of 1951, with # 562, becoming # 592. these first Fairbanks-Morse H16-44 were the early model that styled by Raymond Lowey. These locomotives originally came equipped with a steam generator to be used when in passenger service. Later version of this H16-44 locomotive were also purchased, however, they had high level running boards on the locomotive and no Raymond Lowey styling, but did resemble their big cousin the FM Trainmaster. Situated on the left side of the photo is a locomotive sanding tower. This series of locomotives were used mainly in the surrounding Boston area, however, they were occasionally seen by me working in the Berlin, Connecticut area in the early 1950's. when I observed these locomotives in operation they were working on the Berlin line to New Britain where a connection was made with the Highland Division of the New Haven Railroad. The paint scheme originally applied to these locomotives was a warm orange hood with the lower portion painted in a dark green with black trucks and under-body.

The name of the photographer that captured this image on film is unknown. This photo came from my collection of New Haven Railroad photographic prints.

03.10.2024 Chicago CP Morgan (USA)

BACK IN THE USA!

Also Lokomotiven mit besondere Lackierung vergangener Bahngesellschaften.

During the summer holidays of 2023, my wife and I had to rush to Aberdeen, Scotland, due to family circumstances. During one of the last days there, the Caledonian Railway turned out to be having a special event; the Caledonian Railway Sulzer Diesel Gala. Several diesel locomotive-hauled trains ran between Brechin and Bridge of Dun. I took photographs at various places along the line and of course also went for a ride myself. Still a successful day.

On the night of 6 to 7 February, a snowstorm swept the country. With a code red, all traffic was subsequently disrupted or came to a complete standstill. This is also the case with the railways. Towards the end of the week, train traffic was slowly picking up again and the weather, although still cold, was getting better and better. So a good reason to go out with my oldest son to make some pictures.

New Haven Railroad ALCO DER-1c class DL-109 locomotives 0710 & 0754 along with some others are condemned and ready to be scraped at Modena, Pennsylvania, 1959. None of the New Haven Railroad 60 DL-109 locomotives were saved unfortunately. With the arrival of the new FL9's, along with the reduction in passenger train services, they were no longer needed. Don't really like to view photos such as this because they are sad to me, especially when you have ridden many miles behind these locomotives, and were my favorites too.

I took this Photograph somewhere in the area of the Restored Depot in Hamlet North Carolina during a Weekend Trip to Hamlet, North Carolina sponsored by the Atlantic Coast Line & Seaboard Air Line Historical Society. We visited the Large CSX Hump Yard, Restored Hamlet Depot and several small Short Line Railroads in the Area such as the Laurinburg & Southern, the Aberdeen, Carolina & Western and the Aberdeen & Rockfish.

This Laurinburg & Southern Yard Locomotive moves & switches rail cars around the Railroad Yard. For want of a better name, I called it a Critter !

Apparently, this was an Industrial Area, that has become a Junk Yard. Everything is strewn about, however the Dry Storage Silos appear to be in Good condition and may have still been in use.

Unfortunately, I didn't take adequate Notes during this trip, so I cannot identify all of the Cities and Towns, where I took many of my Photographs. We probably traveled within about a 50 Mile Circle around Hamlet, North Carolina.

I know we passed through the outskirts of Rockingham, North Carolina, because, I took a Photograph of the former NASCAR Race Track in Rockingham as we passed with our Vans.

Weer genieten.

It is becoming a tradition to go to the RTM on Ascension Day, when the National Steam Day is organized. This year my oldest son and I visited this beautiful museum line in the dunes. The weather was beautiful, the trains were nice. A wonderful day again.
