New Haven Railroad with two ALCO RS-11's leading a westbound Shore Line passenger train at Rocky Neck State Park with people seen at the shore in Connecticut, ca 1957. This passenger train consist has quit a mix of cars with the newer Pullman Standard stainless steel lightweight cars, Osgood Bradley-PS aka: American Flyer cars, along with some heavyweight cars. The shore is really active on this day with all of the people situated either on the beach or in the water. Remember going to this same location to watch trains back in the late 1940's until the mid 1950's.

Ct 203-103

Southern Railway EMD E8 units being sanded at the Ivy City Railroad Yard in Washington, D.C., June 1976. This is a four unit set consisting of A-units only, with the last unit out of sight in this view. The locomotives are being sanded and will be re-fulled plus watered along with other maintenance items being performed including washing and inspections prior to departure on the next Southern Crescent to New Orleans via Atlanta. In the foreground is a large quantity of jointed section rail. Still at this time the Southern Railway was not a member of Amtrak and continued to operate its own trains, just as the Denver & Rio Grande Western did at this time. This facility was primarily an Amtrak property. In the background beyond the weeds to the left an unseen is the Amtrak Northeast Corridor. Next to the sanding tower structure is a covered hopper that is used to deliver fine dry sand for the locomotives.
Denver & Rio Grande Western westbound Rio Grande Zephyr is climbing a Rocky Mountain grade where a double ended siding enters the main line in Colorado, Summer 1980. As another viewer pointed out, that is an interesting short height block signal situated on the double ended siding.

This year my eldest son, my father and I went the event "Terug naar Toen (Back to then) by the VSM. And of course, many locs were under steam again. The SSN 65 018 and 01 1075 were visiting locomotives again. For the 65 018 one of her last appearances for the SSN before her to be taken out of service. The usual steam goods trains between Beekbergen and Apeldoorn were only running in the morning this year. So that was the focus for the morning. In the afternoon we mainly spend our time around Loenen. Again it was a magnificent spectacle with beautiful weather.

New Haven Railroad EMD GP-9 in the # 1200 series leads an eastbound train on a platform track in fresh heavy snow between the station and tower SS38 in Stamford, Connecticut, winter 1969. Don't know how many locomotives may be part of the consist, or if an actual freight train or possibly a passenger trains is following the locomotive. From the amount of snow being thrown up in the air the locomotive must be traveling at a good rate of speed. On the left are two sets of Pullman-Standard stainless steel MUT's that are located on stub end sidings deep in the snow. Bob Hughes took this photo from his nice and warm tower location.
Penn Central EMD E-unit locomotive leading a passenger train that is operating on the former New Haven Railroad main line is stopped at the station situated by the tower SS169 at Mansfield, Massachusetts, early 1970's, Bob Hughes Photo. This photo image was captured by Bob Hughes while he was in the cab of another locomotive led passenger train that was traveling in the opposite direction.

Four locomotives operating as a set in electric territory was not as common as the three locomotive lash-ups. In the right background there are set of Pullman Standard lightweight stainless steel MUT's. Bob Hughes was able to get this photo from his tower location.

Denver & Rio Grande Western westbound eight car Rio Grande Zephyr is passing by one of the many coal branch lines, with a unit coal train approaching the main line connection in Utah, Summer 1980. The unit coal train appears to be powered by three EMD GP freight locomotives, and in the distance you can see the yellow caboose on that train.

Penn Central ex Pennsylvania Railroad EMD E8 locomotive # 4262, along with a following FL-9 is seen leading a passenger train along the former New Haven Railroad Shore Line route, early 1970's, Bob Hughes Photo. At this time I do not have information about the location of the bridge on which the train has just crossed. There is no number on the block signal to identify the location either. Almost all passenger cars on this train now have a PC name plate applied to the letter board. You may observe the engineer and fireman within the cab.
New Haven Railroad ALCO DL-109 diesel electric locomotive # 0722 along with others and an ALCO switcher plus a Budd RDC are seen in the yard at Providence, Rhode Island, ca ea-mid 1950's. Shop buildings are seen in the background and a freight yard is seen off to the right.

New Haven Railroad DERS-2c class ALCO RS-3 locomotive 537 is seen in the yard at Maybrook, New York, March 1966. Originally when first delivered these RS-3 locomotives had steam generators installed because they were often used on branch line trains and also in main line commuter train service as required. You can see the engineer in his cab window. Maybrook was a very large freight yard where numerous other railroads interconnected or exchanged freight trains with the New Haven Railroad. The New Haven Railroad had a large locomotive servicing facility at this yard location.

Denver & Rio Grande Western eight car westbound Rio Grande Zephyr led by EMD F9A locomotive # 5771 and two F9B locomotives heads around a main line curve while passing a green block signal in Utah while on its way to Salt Lake City, Utah, Summer 1980. It seems that at just about every location the color of the surrounding terrain keeps on changing. The rails on this main line are well polished because numerous unit coal trains along with manifest freight trains are operated daily on this route. At this location there is an "S" curve present.

Penn Central former Pennsylvania Railroad EMD E8 locomotive # 4262 along with a former New Haven Railroad EMD FL9 locomotive lead a Shore Line passenger train with PRR cars included across a bridge along the route in Connecticut, 1970. The FL-9 was numbered in the 5000 series by PC at this time. This was a rather unusual combination of locomotives, but with PC if it ran it was used evidently. You may observe the engineer through his front cab window. Bob Hughes captured this image on film.
New Haven Railroad ALCO PA-1 locomotive # 0762 & another, lead a westbound passenger train that is stopped along side a platform at the Route 128 station in Massachusetts, fall 1964. The two PA-1 locomotives are wearing what many people call the Alpert paint scheme. The engineer is seen with his head and upper body leaning out of his cab window while looking toward the rear of the train. Further back on the platform there appears to be employees standing, such as conductors and trainmen, etc. The condition of the paint on the locomotive does not get too much better than this, although if one wanted to complain, the the locomotive could be a little cleaner. LOL

This quaint fishing village at the mouth of the Fraser River was voted #1 Metro Vancouver neighborhood out of 192 in 2020. Much of it was declared a heritage zone in 1960, which accounts the warm, old-timey vibe. But it is also a working fishing village, which makes it a seafood lover’s paradise. You can buy fresh seafood right off the dock!
But there’s more to Fisherman’s Wharf – a floating dockside walkway that threads between the fishing boats – as well as the accompanying Steveston Landing boardwalk of shops and eateries than meets the eye. The shoreline attraction is a direct link to the local fishing industry and the region’s cannery-era heyday, and it’s also a perfect place to explore!
At Fisherman’s Wharf visitors can wander down the ramp, walk the floating pathways and peer at the seafood sold from the small armada of boats moored alongside. This public fish sales market offers a cornucopia of glistening goodies, which can include salmon, rockfish, and brimming baskets of shrimp. Look out for fresh-caught sea urchins and keep in mind that the highly anticipated spot prawn season (typically mid-May to June) is a must-see.

Seaboard Coast Line EMD GP38-2 # 6057 & another lead a Family Lines Safety Express railfan excursion train between Tampa & Dunnellon, Florida, February 1981. This train will be turned at Dunnellon and then return to Tampa. All along this freight train route you could observe people, railfans and photographers watching the train. Some people believe that Florida is flat and that it doesn't have grades, but that's not true at all as you can see in this photo.
Denver & Rio Grande Western westbound Rio Grande Zephyr EMD F-units with their train in a canyon are seen while crossing a main line bridge in Colorado, Summer 1980. New Haven Railroad ALCO C-425 # 2556 & GE U25B lead an eastbound manifest freight train under wire toward tower SS38 in Stamford, Connecticut, 1968. It appears that the fireman is giving a wave to Bob Hughes as he takes this photo. You may also notice that someone is riding deadhead in the cab of the second locomotive. Not to often did you see an C-425 in the lead because they were rough riders and the BLE had an agreement with the New Haven Railroad to not use these locomotives in the lead if possible.
Denver & Rio Grande Western EMD F9A diesel electric locomotive # 5771 is at the station platform preparing to lead the morning departing eight car Rio Grande Zephyr from Denver, Colorado to Salt Lake City, Utah, Summer 1980. To the right is a switcher leading some freight cars in the opposite direction. Check out the nice looking State of Maine box car on the right. Also seen on the right are four classic semaphore blade style block signals. Notice the vintage vehicles located in the left foreground, of which many are sought after today. Downtown Boston is seen in the background. The name of the original photographer that took this photo is unknown.

Several diesel locomotive-hauled trains ran between Brechin and Bridge of Dun. I took photographs at various places along the line and of course also went for a ride myself. Still a successful day.
