Elk jaar organiseert de Stoomtrein Goes Borsele (SGB) het evenement Sporen naar het Verleden. Dan komen er diverse stoom- en diesellocomotieven of treinen in actie. Dit jaar waren dat de SHM 5 ' Enkhuizen', de SHD 2205, de CREW 2454 Plan U stel 151, de SSN 23 023 en de eigen locs SGB 22 'Otter' en 264 'Sik'. Daarnaast stonden op het depot in Goes de SGB omC 910 en omC 909, CREW 2454 C9002 'Jaap', SHD 302282 'Anneke' en SHD Plan D 60 84 978 1 005-1 Meetrijtuig CTO ter bezichtiging. Genoeg te zien dus. Het was schitterend weer en we hebben ons dus weer prima vermaakt.

New Haven Railroad GE U25B locomotive # 2516 & another, lead a westbound manifest freight train toward tower SS38 at Stamford, Connecticut, 1968. You can really see the exhaust and radiator heat being generated on top of the locomotives. In this scene you can also plainly see the short blade semaphore signals. The I-95 highway overpass bridge is seen in the background.

New Haven Railroad ALCO DL-109's, both wearing pin stripes, lead a heavyweight passenger train consist across the Canton Viaduct in Massachusetts, ca 1946. The Canton Viaduct is part of the Shore Line Route between New Haven and Boston. The roof of one quit old car is seen below the viaduct.

Deze dag stond in het teken van goederenvervoer bij de RTM. Diverse stoom en diesellocs reden goederentrams of personentrams met goederenwagens. Het weer was uitstekend en de trams weer schitterend.

 

This day was all about freight transport at the RTM. Various steam and diesel locomotives drove freight trams or passenger trams with freight wagons. The weather was excellent and the trams were again magnificent.

 

Dieser Tag stand im RTM ganz im Zeichen des Gütertransports. Verschiedene Dampf- und Diesellokomotiven trieben Güterstraßenbahnen bzw. Personenstraßenbahnen mit Güterwagen an. Das Wetter war ausgezeichnet und die Straßenbahnen waren wieder wunderschön.

In de zomervakantie van 2023 moesten mijn vrouw en ik wegens familie omstandigheden halsoverkop naar Aberdeen, Schotland. Tijdens een van de laatste dagen daar, bleek de Caledonian Railway een speciaal evenement te hebben; de Caledonian Railway Sulzer Diesel Gala. Diverse door diesellocomotieven getrokken treinen reden tussen Brechin en Bridge of Dun. Op diverse plekken langs de lijn heb ik gefotografeerd en natuurlijk ook zelf weer een ritje gemaakt. Toch nog een geslaagde dag geweest.

 

During the summer holidays of 2023, my wife and I had to rush to Aberdeen, Scotland, due to family circumstances. During one of the last days there, the Caledonian Railway turned out to be having a special event; the Caledonian Railway Sulzer Diesel Gala. Several diesel locomotive-hauled trains ran between Brechin and Bridge of Dun. I took photographs at various places along the line and of course also went for a ride myself. Still a successful day.

 

Während der Sommerferien 2023 mussten meine Frau und ich aus familiären Gründen eilig nach Aberdeen, Schottland, reisen. An einem der letzten Tage dort hatte die Caledonian Railway ein besonderes Ereignis; die Caledonian Railway Sulzer Diesel Gala. Zwischen Brechin und Bridge of Dun verkehrten mehrere von Diesellokomotiven gezogene Züge. Ich habe an verschiedenen Stellen entlang der Strecke Fotos gemacht und bin natürlich auch selbst mitgefahren. Dennoch ein erfolgreicher Tag.

New Haven Railroad ALCO PA-1 # 0782 and DL-109 lead a passenger train along the Shore Line while crossing a stone overpass, ca early 1950's. This train has three headend cars along with a mixed consist of lightweight and heavyweight cars. There appears to be a platform area at this location. This was a B&W photo that I colorized.

New Haven Railroad DER-1c class ALCO DL109's 0706 and 0710 are seen with a passenger train at a New Haven Union Station platform, New Haven, Connecticut, 1948. The diesel locomotives or steam locomotive deliver westbound trains into the station where electric motors will take over for the remainer of their runs to either Grand Central Terminal or Pennsylvania Station in New York City.

New Haven Railroad diesel electric locomotive trio of FA-1 # 0420 & FB-1, plus another FA-1 is seen while leading a manifest freight train by the Hills Grove tower SS139 along the Shore Line route in Rhode Island, ca 1950's. Today this area is known a Hillsgrove. You may observe the mechanical pipe linkages extending out from the tower to operate switch turnouts and perhaps signals.

Als full time vader en echtgenoot sta ik, op de incidentele hoofdlijnritten van de SSN of VSM en de evenementen na, bijna niet meer langs het spoor. Wat ik aan NS (of andere maatschappijen) materieel fotografeer is vaak bijvangst van stoom of museummaterieel waar ik voor op uit was getrokken. Gelukkig komt het nog wel een enkele keer voor dat ik even tijd heb, maar dat is helaas maar sporadisch. Dit keer stonden wij voor de Stoomtreindagen van de SSN in de omgeving van Moordrecht. Deze dag was het weer minder; bewolkt maar tegen het eind van de dag brak het zonnetje toch nog door. De DE3 kwam ook nog langs en kon ik nog mooi meepakken

 

As a full-time father and husband I hardly make pictures of regular trains. Almost only when the SSN or VSM has one of their rare main line trips, I am able to catch some regular trains too. So what I catch with my camera of the NS (or other companies) trains is often a side catch of steam or museum material passing by. Fortunately I do find occasionally some time to make pictures. This time we were in the vicinity of Moordrecht for the SSN Steam Train Days. This day the weather was not that great. Cloudy, but at the end of the day luckily the sun appeared. The DMU of Crew 2454 also passed by and I was able to make some pictures of this set also.

 

Als Vollzeitvater und Ehemann verbringe ich, abgesehen von den gelegentlichen Hauptstreckenfahrten der SSN oder VSM und den Veranstaltungen, kaum noch Zeit am Streckenrand. Was ich an NS-Geräten (oder anderen Firmen) fotografiere, ist oft Beifang von Dampf- oder Museumsgeräten, die ich gekauft habe. Glücklicherweise kommt es immer noch gelegentlich vor, dass ich etwas Zeit habe, aber das ist leider nur sporadisch der Fall. Dieses Mal standen wir für die SSN Dampfzug Tage im Raum Moordrecht. An diesem Tag war das Wetter schlechter; bewölkt, aber gegen Ende des Tages brach die Sonne durch.

Na een lange tussenpoos, o.a. vanwege Corona, bezochten we in 2022 weer de RTM. Deze dag werden diverse gemengde trams met stoom en diesel gereden. Natuurlijk stond de lus in de duinen bij De Punt op het lijstje van fotopunten, maar ook diverse plaatsen langs de lijn werden bezocht.

 

After a long interval, partly due to Corona, we visited the RTM again in 2022. This day several mixed trams with steam and diesel were driven. Of course the loop in the dunes at De Punt was on the list of photo points, but various places along the line were also visited.

Natürlich stand die Schleife in den Dünen bei De Punt auf der Liste der Fotopunkte, aber auch verschiedene Orte entlang der Strecke wurden besucht.

I had to hold my breath before each shot so the condensation would dissipate. The local run had paused so the conductor could check the pneumatic lines and so they could pick up a few empty lumber cars from the siding there.

Elk jaar wordt met Hemelvaart de Nationale Stoomtreindag georganiseerd. Meestal zijn we dan bij de SGB of de RTM te vinden. Dit keer wilde ik, naar aanleiding van foto's die ik in Fb had gezien, eens naar de VSM. Samen met mijn oudste zoon op pad naar Loenen, waar we bijna een privé showtje goederenwagens rangeren hadden. Een groot deel van de ochtend hebben we bij de VSM doorgebracht, waarna we in de middag naar Zwolle zijn gegaan om daar nog de 1700 in dienst te bekijken.

 

Every year the National Steam Train Day is organized during Ascension Day. We can usually be found at the SGB or the RTM. This time, based on photos I had seen in Facebook, I wanted to go to the VSM. Together with my eldest son we went to Loenen, where we almost had a private show of shunting freight wagons. We spent a large part of the morning at the VSM, after which we went to Zwolle in the afternoon to view the 1700 in service there.

 

Jedes Jahr wird am Himmelfahrtstag der Nationale Dampfzugtag organisiert. In der Regel sind wir beim SGB oder beim RTM zu finden. Diesmal wollte ich, basierend auf Fotos, die ich auf Facebook gesehen hatte, zum VSM gehen. Zusammen mit meinem ältesten Sohn fuhren wir nach Loenen, wo wir fast eine Privatschau von Rangiergüterwagen hatten. Wir verbrachten den größten Teil des Vormittags im VSM und fuhren dann am Nachmittag nach Zwolle, um den dort im Einsatz befindlichen 1700 zu besichtigen.

Elk jaar organiseert de MBS een Najaarsstyoomdag. Dit jaar kwam ook de 162 in actie met een net opgeknapte boxcar. Ook werden er weer enkele slagen gereden met de Wismar railbus. Het was helaas erg regenachtig, wat echter wel weer bijdroeg aan de sfeer.

 

Every year the MBS organizes an Autumn Stoom Day. This year, the 162 came into action with a recently refurbished boxcar also. There were also some rides with the Wismar railbus. Unfortunately it was raining a lot, although it did add to the atmosphere.

 

Jedes Jahr organisiert die MBS einen Autumn Stoom Day. In diesem Jahr kam der 162 auch mit einem kürzlich renovierten Güterwagen zum Einsatz. Es gab auch einige fahrten mit dem Wismar-Schienenbus. Leider war es sehr regnerisch, was aber zur Atmosphäre beitrug.

New Haven Railroad DEY- 5 class ALCO S-2 locomotive 0600 is seen on a siding in Boston, ca 1950's. The switcher 600 was the first of the class of 22 Alco S-2 locomotives purchased in numbers 600 through 621. This switcher also appears to have a modified off center exhaust stack applied by the NHRR. The switcher still maintains pretty much the standard New Haven Railroad paint scheme instead of the McGinnis livery. The adjustable horizontal radiator shutters are clearly seen on this locomotive. This location is the Union Freight Railroad Yard in Boston. The yellow Fruit Growers Express refrigerator car sure has a list.

The engine room of HMS Alliance which is the last surviving WW2 British submarine, preserved at the Naval Submarine Musem in Gosport near Portsmouth, Hampshire.

'Sporen naar het Verleden'is het jaarlijkse evenement bij de SGB. Diverse eigen locomotieven vaak ook gast materieel is aanwezig om dit evenement op te luisteren. Dit jaar was de 'Blauwe Engel' van het spoorwegmuseum aanwezig. Dit dieseltreinstel is vernoemd naar Marlene Dietrich, die op het moment dat het voor het eerst in Nederland op de rails kwam, wereldberoemd was.

Diverse treinen reden tussen Goes en Hoedekenskerke. Natuurlijk veel gefotografeerd langs het spoor, maar een ritje in de Blauwe Engel en de stoomtrein kon natuurlijk ook niet achter blijven. Verder hebben de kinderen zich uitstekend vermaakt in de speeltuin. Het was een geslaagde dag uit voor de hele familie.

 

'Tracks to the past' is the annual event at the SGB. Various own locomotives and often also guest locomotives are present to liven up this event. This year the 'Blue Angel' of the Dutch railway museum was present. This diesel train set is named after Marlene Dietrich, who was world famous when this train got into service in the Netherlands.

Several trains ran between Goes and Hoedekenskerke. Of course I made a lot photographs along the track, but a ride in the Blue Angel and the steam train could not be left behind. Furthermore, the children had a great time in the playground. It was a nice day out for the whole family.

 

'Spuren in die Vergangenheit' ist die jährliche Veranstaltung der SGB. Verschiedene eigene Lokomotiven, oft auch Gast Züge, verleihen dieser Veranstaltung Glanz. In diesem Jahr war der 'Blaue Engel' des Eisenbahnmuseums anwesend. Dieses Dieselzugset ist nach Marlene Dietrich benannt, die weltberühmt war, als es in den Niederlanden zum ersten Mal auf die Schienen kam.

Mehrere Züge fuhren zwischen Goes und Hoedekenskerke. Natürlich habe ich viele Fotos entlang der Strecke gemacht, aber eine Fahrt mit dem Blauen Engel und dem Dampfzug konnte auch nicht zurückgelassen werden. Außerdem hatten die Kinder eine tolle Zeit auf dem Spielplatz. Es war ein erfolgreicher Tag für die ganze Familie.

No. 7 Chattenden is six-coupled machine was built by E. E. Baguley at Burton-on-Trent in 1949 to the order of the Drewry Car Company and is now fitted with a Gardner engine developing 150 h.p. Originally it worked on the Admiralty’s Upnor and Lodge Hill Railway then later transferred to Broughton Moor, Cumbria. Capable of working passenger trains in an emergency, the locomotive is normally used for the heavier civil engineering works trains.

Diverse locs kwamen in actie; 01 202, 01 150 (een dag), 01 1075, 03 1010, 52 1360, 52 8154, 52 8195, 78 468, 103 113, V200 033, CFL 5519 en de 11SM van de Brohltalbahn. De Brohltalbahn hebben we niet bezocht, maar in plaats daarvan een bezoek gebracht aan het vliegtuigmuseum in Hermeskeil. Ook nog een bezoek gebracht aan het spoorwegmuseum in hermeskeil. Dit zou eigenlijk gesloten zijn, maar speciaal voor ons werd het hek toch van het slot gehaald ; )

we hebben vier heerlijke dagen stoom meegemaakt. En door de grote dichtheid van treinen en het schitterende landschap, veel mooie foto's en video's kunnen maken.

 

Together with my two sons I went to the Plandampf spectacle around Trier. Various locs came into action; 01 202, 01 150 (one day), 01 1075, 03 1010, 52 1360, 52 8154, 52 8195, 78 468, 103 113, V200 033, CFL 5519 and the 11SM of the Brohltalbahn. We did not visit the Brohltalbahn, but visited the aircraft museum in Hermeskeil instead. Also visited the railway museum in Hermeskeil. This would actually be closed, but especially for us the gate was unlocked ; )

We have experienced four wonderful days of steam. And because of the high density of trains and the beautiful landscape, we were able to make many beautiful photos and videos.

 

Zusammen mit meinen beiden Söhnen ging ich zum Plandampfspektakel I'm Grossraum Trier. Verschiedene Locs kamen in Aktion; 01 202, 01 150 (ein Tag), 01 1075, 03 1010, 52 1360, 52 8154, 52 8195, 78 468, 103 113, V 200 033, CFL 5519 und die 11SM der Brohltalbahn. Wir haben die Brohltalbahn nicht besucht, sondern stattdessen das Flugzeugmuseum in Hermeskeil besucht. Auch das Eisenbahnmuseum in Hermeskeil. Das wäre eigentlich geschlossen, aber speziell für uns wurde das Tor vom Schloss entfernt; )

Wir haben vier wunderbare Tage Dampf erlebt. Und wegen der hohen Dichte an Zügen und der schönen Landschaft lassen sich viele schöne Fotos und Videos machen.

Door Corona en familieomstandigheden, waren we niet in staat om bij Plandampf in het Werratal te zijn. Maar na zoveel jaar kruipt het bloed toch waar het niet gaan kan. Daarom besloten mijn vader, mijn oudste zoon en ik in de meivakantie naar het voormalige Oost-Duitsland af te reizen om daar te genieten van smalspoor stoom.

Als eerste bezochten we de Zittauer Schmalspurbahn, waar door werkzaamheden aan de Mandaubrücke in Zittau zelf, alleen het traject vanaf Zittau Vorstadt naar Jonsdorf/Oybin werd bereden. Daarnaast was na 68 jaar Bertsdorf weer 'Lokeinsatzstelle'. Een unieke gelegenheid dus.

 

Due to Corona and family circumstances, we were unable to join Plandampf in the Werratal. But after so many years, the blood creeps where it can't go. That is why my father, my eldest son and I decided to travel to the former East Germany during the May holidays, to enjoy narrow-gauge steam.

First we visited the Zittauer Schmalspurbahn, where due to work on the Mandaubrücke in Zittau itself, only the route from Zittau Vorstadt to Jonsdorf/Oybin was used. In addition, after 68 years Bertsdorf was again 'Lokeinsatzstelle'. So a unique opportunity.

 

Aufgrund von Corona und familiären Umständen konnten wir leider nicht bei Plandampf im Werratal sein. Aber nach so vielen Jahren kriecht das Blut dahin, wo es nicht hin kann. Deshalb haben mein Vater, mein ältester Sohn und ich beschlossen, in den Maiferien in die ehemaligen DDR zu reisen, um Schmalspurdampf zu genießen.

Zuerst besuchten wir die Zittauer Schmalspurbahn, wo aufgrund von Arbeiten an der Mandaubrücke in Zittau selbst, nur die Strecke von der Zittauer Vorstadt nach Jonsdorf/Oybin befahren wurde. Außerdem war Bertsdorf nach 68 Jahren wieder Lokeinsatzstelle. Also eine einmalige Gelegenheit.

Elk jaar wordt met Hemelvaart de Nationale Stoomtreindag georganiseerd. Meestal zijn we dan bij de SGB of de RTM te vinden. Dit keer wilde ik, naar aanleiding van foto's die ik in Fb had gezien, eens naar de VSM. Samen met mijn oudste zoon op pad naar Loenen, waar we bijna een privé showtje goederenwagens rangeren hadden. Een groot deel van de ochtend hebben we bij de VSM doorgebracht, waarna we in de middag naar Zwolle zijn gegaan om daar nog de 1700 in dienst te bekijken.

 

Every year the National Steam Train Day is organized during Ascension Day. We can usually be found at the SGB or the RTM. This time, based on photos I had seen in Facebook, I wanted to go to the VSM. Together with my eldest son we went to Loenen, where we almost had a private show of shunting freight wagons. We spent a large part of the morning at the VSM, after which we went to Zwolle in the afternoon to view the 1700 in service there.

 

Jedes Jahr wird am Himmelfahrtstag der Nationale Dampfzugtag organisiert. In der Regel sind wir beim SGB oder beim RTM zu finden. Diesmal wollte ich, basierend auf Fotos, die ich auf Facebook gesehen hatte, zum VSM gehen. Zusammen mit meinem ältesten Sohn fuhren wir nach Loenen, wo wir fast eine Privatschau von Rangiergüterwagen hatten. Wir verbrachten den größten Teil des Vormittags im VSM und fuhren dann am Nachmittag nach Zwolle, um den dort im Einsatz befindlichen 1700 zu besichtigen.

Na een lange tussenpoos, o.a. vanwege Corona, bezochten we in 2022 weer de RTM. Deze dag werden diverse gemengde trams met stoom en diesel gereden. Natuurlijk stond de lus in de duinen bij De Punt op het lijstje van fotopunten, maar ook diverse plaatsen langs de lijn werden bezocht.

 

After a long interval, partly due to Corona, we visited the RTM again in 2022. This day several mixed trams with steam and diesel were driven. Of course the loop in the dunes at De Punt was on the list of photo points, but various places along the line were also visited.

  

Nach langer, unter anderem Corona-bedingter Pause, besuchten wir 2022 erneut das RTM. An diesem Tag fuhren mehrere gemischte Straßenbahnen mit Dampf und Diesel. Natürlich stand die Schleife in den Dünen bei De Punt auf der Liste der Fotopunkte, aber auch verschiedene Orte entlang der Strecke wurden besucht.

Penn Central GE ex NYC U25B locomotive # 2521 and PC U33B locomotive # 2910 are seen performing switching work by tower SS38 at Stamford, Connecticut, summer 1971. In the background you can see a portion of the downtown area buildings and also highway I-95. You also can see the engineer and the fireman through the cab windows. There also appears to be someone being seen in the fireman's window of the trailing U33B. Bob Hughes was able to capture this image on film from his tower location.

On a overcast autumn day, 66623 'Bill Bolsover' passes Fairburn Ings nature reserve with 6E06 Bredbury to York yard south binliner, refuse train.

In 2023 werd weer Terug naar Toen georganiseerd door de Veluwse Stoomtrein Maatschappij (VSM). Hoogtepunt dit jaar was het weer in dienst komen van de 41 241. Dat was duidelijk te merken aan de hoeveelheden toeschouwers en fotografen langs de lijn ; ) In actie kwamen naast de 41 241, ook de 44 1593, 50 307, 52 3879, 50 3654, 65 018, 23 071, 64 415, 2459, 2530 en de SSN 01 1075. Samen met mijn oudste zoon langs de lijn en op het depot doorgebracht. Het was schitterend weer; 's ochtends mist en later veel zon, maar daardoor helaas minder stoomontwikkeling. Weer een geslaagde dag uit.

 

n 2023, 'Terug naar Toen' was organized again by the Veluwse Stoomtrein Maatschappij (VSM). The highlight this year was the return to service of the 41 241. This was clearly noticeable from the numbers of spectators and photographers along the line ; ) In addition to the 41 241, the 44 1593, 50 307, 52 3879, 50 3654, 65 018, 23 071, 64 415, 2459, 2530 and the SSN 01 1075 were also in action. Spent along the line and at the depot with my eldest son. The weather was beautiful; mist in the morning and later a lot of sun, but unfortunately less steam development. Another successful day out.

 

Im Jahr 2023 wurde 'Zurück nach Damals' erneut vom Veluwse Stoomtrein Maatschappij (VSM) organisiert. Der Höhepunkt in diesem Jahr war die Wiederinbetriebnahme der 41 241. Dies war deutlich an der Zahl der Zuschauer und Fotografen entlang der Strecke zu erkennen; ) Neben der 41 241 waren auch die 44 1593, 50 307, 52 3879, 50 3654, 65 018, 23 071, 64 415, 2459, 2530 und die SSN 01 1075 im Einsatz. Das Wetter war wunderschön; Morgens Nebel und später viel Sonne, aber leider weniger Dampfentwicklung. Ein weiterer erfolgreicher Ausflugstag.

Competition is growing on the highway along with various companies moving out of the New England area and this is reducing the freight train revenue. Penn Central ex New Haven Railroad ALCO RS-11 locomotive # 7673 and EMD GP9 locomotive # 7544 lead what appears to be a westbound MOW train operating on an express track near tower SS38 at Stamford, Connecticut, 1971. The two gondolas appear to be carrying ballast rock and the three flat cars appear to be carrying rail. Bob Hughes took this photo from his location in tower SS38.

Main rail line connecting Kerala with Tamil Nadu runs through southern boundary of our University Campus. Both ways put together nearly 100 trains, passenger and goods included, pass through this on any day. Howling sound of diesel engines and honking of train waiting for signal is common throughout day and night.

 

Shot this from top of what we call "Main Building", the first building of this Univ (at that time it was a small college called Amrita Institute of Technology).

New Haven Railroad ALCO DL-109 locomotive 0737 is seen while backing down in the yard at Providence, Rhode Island, ca 1940's. You can see the engineer ins cab window turned around to watch the backing operation. This locomotive still has its original side windows installed.

97302 sits at Machynlleth having arrived with the 21:20 3S71 RHTT from Shrewsbury Coleham on its first night of operation during the 2016 season. The Machynlleth leg of the RHTT is the first in its long circuit covering North Wales and the Marches. It's unusual for the train to enter the platform at Mach, as the traincrew usually swap locos (when running in TnT mode) well out of public view by the tank sidings. Because 97302 worked the RHTT solo, it was necessary to enter the platform. Note the new footbridge, which though it's been completed since a while, the lifts remain out of service. The Up platform it serves (platform 1) only sees seven trains a day, whereas the Down platform (platform 2) sees 43 trains a day.

New Haven Railroad EMD FL-9 EDER-5a class locomotive # 2035 leads a five car passenger train around a curve in Rhode Island, late 1950's. On the two tracks to the far right you can see the red block signals for trains operating in the opposite direction.

Norfolk Southern operated N&W J-class steam locomotive # 611 led Railfan Excursion Train is stopped on a double ended siding while a southbound TOFC freight train is led by long hood forward EMD GP30 diesel locomotive # 2550 in Tennessee, October 1989. Railfan photographers are seen with their heads and cameras sticking out of the passenger car dutch doors. The Railfan Excursion Train is on its way to Oneida, Tennessee, where it will be serviced and turned for its return trip to Chattanooga. This main line was a former Southern Railway property.

La linea de la Robla se construyó con muy pocos medios. En muchas zonas la via está tendida practicamente sobre el terreno natural. En esas zonas no hay ni trincheras ni terraplenes.

This railway was built 1891. In some places the roadbed was laid over the terrain. There aren't trenches or embankments. The train travels so slowly that I can take two pictures in almost 30km.

 

Best seen large.

Canadian National GMD GP38-2(W) is the lead unit on this train that is switching in Guelph, ON.

New Haven Railroad ALCO FA-1 locomotives # 0428 and # 0418 lead an eastbound manifest freight train on an express track while passing tower SS38 at Stamford, Connecticut, 1968. These old ALCO cab units are still performing their job handling freight trains. You can see a portion of the city and highway I-95 in the background. Penn Central ALCO RS-3 # 5589 (former New Haven) is seen while leading a local freight train in the Cedar Hill Yard at New Haven, Connecticut, 1971. It is nice to see a red caboose at the end of this short train. It appears that the PC did little more than the New Haven Railroad in their last days to clean up the trash in the Cedar Hill Yard area. The catenary that was previously in the yard was removed by the New Haven Railroad some time back prior to the PC's arrival.
