Elk jaar wordt met Hemelvaart de Nationale Stoomtreindag georganiseerd. Meestal zijn we dan bij de SGB of de RTM te vinden. Dit keer wilde ik, naar aanleiding van foto's die ik in Fb had gezien, eens naar de VSM. Samen met mijn oudste zoon op pad naar Loenen, waar we bijna een privé showtje goederenwagens rangeren hadden. Een groot deel van de ochtend hebben we bij de VSM doorgebracht, waarna we in de middag naar Zwolle zijn gegaan om daar nog de 1700 in dienst te bekijken.

 

Every year the National Steam Train Day is organized during Ascension Day. We can usually be found at the SGB or the RTM. This time, based on photos I had seen in Facebook, I wanted to go to the VSM. Together with my eldest son we went to Loenen, where we almost had a private show of shunting freight wagons. We spent a large part of the morning at the VSM, after which we went to Zwolle in the afternoon to view the 1700 in service there.

 

Jedes Jahr wird am Himmelfahrtstag der Nationale Dampfzugtag organisiert. In der Regel sind wir beim SGB oder beim RTM zu finden. Diesmal wollte ich, basierend auf Fotos, die ich auf Facebook gesehen hatte, zum VSM gehen. Zusammen mit meinem ältesten Sohn fuhren wir nach Loenen, wo wir fast eine Privatschau von Rangiergüterwagen hatten. Wir verbrachten den größten Teil des Vormittags im VSM und fuhren dann am Nachmittag nach Zwolle, um den dort im Einsatz befindlichen 1700 zu besichtigen.

Dit jaar ben ik weer met mijn beide zonen en mijn vader naar Terug naar Toen van de VSM geweest. En natuurlijk stonden er natuurlijk weer veel locs onder stoom. Dit jaar was de 23 023 van de SSN weer te gast en werd er een line-up van de drie rijvaardige 23ers georganiseerd. De gebruikelijke goederentreinen tussen Beekbergen en Apeldoorn reden dit jaar alleen in de ochtend. Dus daar lag in de ochtend de focus op. In de middag werd vooral rondom Loenen doorgebracht. Het was weer een schitterend spektakel met prachtig weer.

 

Dieses Jahr bin ich mit meinen beiden Söhnen und mein Vater nach Zurück nach Damals der VSM gefahren. Und natürlich waren wieder viele Loks unter Dampf. In diesem Jahr war der 23 023 der SSN zu Gast und eine Aufstellung der drei fahrenden 23er wurde organisiert. Die üblichen Dampf Güterzüge zwischen Beekbergen und Apeldoorn liefen dieses Jahr nur am Morgen. Das war der Fokus am Morgen. Am Nachmittag wurde hauptsächlich um Loenen herum verbracht. Es war wieder ein großartiges Spektakel mit schönem Wetter.

 

This year my both sons, my father and I went the event "Terug naar Toen (Back to then) by the VSM. And of course, many locs were under steam again. This year the SSN's 23 023 was guest locomotive and a line-up of the three running 23ers was organized. The usual steam goods trains between Beekbergen and Apeldoorn were only running in the morning this year. So that was the focus for the morning. In the afternoon we mainly spend our time around Loenen. Again it was a magnificent spectacle with beautiful weather.

Western Pacific Railroad EMD F7A diesel electric locomotive # 914A, along with four other units led a manifest freight train around a main line curve in the area of Altamont Pass, California, March 18, 1972. It nice to see this locomotive set (aka covered wagons) while they were still in service. There are numerous high capacity boxcars within this train's consist. Also there is a nice looking railroad steel truss bridge over another track and highway in the background. This photo came from an Internet scan. New Haven Railroad DER-1c class ALCO DL-109 0717 & 0714 diesel electric locomotives, with a passenger train that is operating on the Shore Line, is seen while stopped at the station in Saybrook, Connecticut, ca 1950. Norfolk Southern #5290 GP38-2 sits off line in Morrisville Yard PA

Samen met mijn zoon zijn we twee dagen naar de MBS Najaarsstoomdagen geweest. Dit jaar reed, naast de Wismar railbus, de Magda en Kikker, de ELNA 152 in het zwart weer mee. Ook de gastloc SHM 6513 kwam in actie. De twee locjes MBS 12 Rij-ijzer, 't Gekje' en MBS 10 'Nijverdal' mochten een ritje naar Zoutindustrie maken. Helaas raakte daarbij Rij-ijzer defect en moest teruggesleept worden door de ELNA. Op zaterdagavond werd er een night shooting georganiseerd, wat in mijn ogen wel een hoogtepunt was van het weekend. Zeker later op de avond, waren wij nog de enigen op het depot en konden we nog vele mooie plaatjes schieten.

 

My son and I went to the MBS Autumn Steam Days for two days. This year, in addition to the Wismar railbus, the Magda, and the Kikker, the ELNA 152, all black, was also participating. Mein Sohn und ich besuchten zwei Tage lang die MBS Herbstdampftage. Dieses Jahr war neben dem Wismarer Schienenbus, der Magda und der Kikker auch die komplett schwarze ELNA 152 dabei. Die Gastlokomotive SHM 6513 war ebenfalls im Einsatz. Die beiden Lokomotiven MBS 12 Rij-ijzer, 't Gekje' und MBS 10 'Nijverdal' unternahmen eine Fahrt nach Zoutindustrie. Leider hatte Rij-ijzer eine Panne und musste von der ELNA zurückgeschleppt werden. Am Samstagabend fand ein Nachtfotoshooting statt, das meiner Meinung nach ein Höhepunkt des Wochenendes war. Vor allem später am Abend waren wir die Einzigen im Depot und konnten viele schöne Fotos machen.

Door Corona en familieomstandigheden, waren we niet in staat om bij Plandampf in het Werratal te zijn. Maar na zoveel jaar kruipt het bloed toch waar het niet gaan kan. Daarom besloten mijn vader, mijn oudste zoon en ik in de meivakantie naar het voormalige Oost-Duitsland af te reizen om daar te genieten van smalspoor stoom.

Nadat we twee dagen de Zittauer Schmalspurbahn hadden bezocht, gingen we door naar Dresden. Daar werd als eerste de Lössnitzgrundbahn bezocht, gevolgd door de Weißeritztalbahn. En tenslotte werd de Fichtelbergbahn bezocht. Onderweg nog een bezoekje gebracht aan het station museum Schlettau, waar we in 1992 nog rondgelopen hebben tijdens Plandampf rondom Aue

 

Due to Corona and family circumstances, we were unable to join Plandampf in the Werratal. But after so many years, the blood creeps where it can't go. That is why my father, my eldest son and I decided to travel to the former East Germany during the May holidays, to enjoy narrow-gauge steam.

After visiting the Zittau Narrow Gauge Railway for two days, we continued to Dresden. The Lössnitzgrundbahn was the first to be visited there, followed by the Weißeritztalbahn. And finally we visited the Fichtelbergbahn. On teh way up there, we visited the museum station Schlettau. Last time we were here was during Plandampf in and around Aue in 1992.

 

Aufgrund von Corona und familiären Umständen konnten wir leider nicht bei Plandampf im Werratal sein. Aber nach so vielen Jahren kriecht das Blut dahin, wo es nicht hin kann. Deshalb haben mein Vater, mein ältester Sohn und ich beschlossen, in den Maiferien in die ehemaligen DDR zu reisen, um Schmalspurdampf zu genießen.

Nach einem zweitägigen Besuch der Zittauer Schmalspurbahn ging es weiter nach Dresden. Als erstes wurde dort die Lössnitzgrundbahn besichtigt, gefolgt von der Weißeritztalbahn. Und zuletzt besuchten wir die Fichtelbergbahn. Auf den Farht nach Cranzahl haben wir noch das Bahnhof Museum von Schlettau besucht. Hier waren wir in 1992 während den Plandampf Vernastaltung rundum Aue.

In 2023 werd weer Terug naar Toen georganiseerd door de Veluwse Stoomtrein Maatschappij (VSM). Hoogtepunt dit jaar was het weer in dienst komen van de 41 241. Dat was duidelijk te merken aan de hoeveelheden toeschouwers en fotografen langs de lijn ; ) In actie kwamen naast de 41 241, ook de 44 1593, 50 307, 52 3879, 50 3654, 65 018, 23 071, 64 415, 2459, 2530 en de SSN 01 1075. Samen met mijn oudste zoon langs de lijn en op het depot doorgebracht. Het was schitterend weer; 's ochtends mist en later veel zon, maar daardoor helaas minder stoomontwikkeling. Weer een geslaagde dag uit.

Spent along the line and at the depot with my eldest son. The weather was beautiful; mist in the morning and later a lot of sun, but unfortunately less steam development. Another successful day out.

 

Im Jahr 2023 wurde 'Zurück nach Damals' erneut vom Veluwse Stoomtrein Maatschappij (VSM) organisiert. Der Höhepunkt in diesem Jahr war die Wiederinbetriebnahme der 41 241. Dies war deutlich an der Zahl der Zuschauer und Fotografen entlang der Strecke zu erkennen; ) Neben der 41 241 waren auch die 44 1593, 50 307, 52 3879, 50 3654, 65 018, 23 071, 64 415, 2459, 2530 und die SSN 01 1075 im Einsatz. Das Wetter war wunderschön; Morgens Nebel und später viel Sonne, aber leider weniger Dampfentwicklung. Ein weiterer erfolgreicher Ausflugstag.

'Sporen naar het Verleden'is het jaarlijkse evenement bij de SGB. Diverse eigen locomotieven vaak ook gast materieel is aanwezig om dit evenement op te luisteren. Dit jaar was de 'Blauwe Engel' van het spoorwegmuseum aanwezig. Dit dieseltreinstel is vernoemd naar Marlene Dietrich, die op het moment dat het voor het eerst in Nederland op de rails kwam, wereldberoemd was.

Diverse treinen reden tussen Goes en Hoedekenskerke. Natuurlijk veel gefotografeerd langs het spoor, maar een ritje in de Blauwe Engel en de stoomtrein kon natuurlijk ook niet achter blijven. Verder hebben de kinderen zich uitstekend vermaakt in de speeltuin. Het was een geslaagde dag uit voor de hele familie.

 

'Tracks to the past' is the annual event at the SGB. Various own locomotives and often also guest locomotives are present to liven up this event. This year the 'Blue Angel' of the Dutch railway museum was present. This diesel train set is named after Marlene Dietrich, who was world famous when this train got into service in the Netherlands.

Several trains ran between Goes and Hoedekenskerke. Of course I made a lot photographs along the track, but a ride in the Blue Angel and the steam train could not be left behind. Furthermore, the children had a great time in the playground. It was a nice day out for the whole family.

 

'Spuren in die Vergangenheit' ist die jährliche Veranstaltung der SGB. Verschiedene eigene Lokomotiven, oft auch Gast Züge, verleihen dieser Veranstaltung Glanz. In diesem Jahr war der 'Blaue Engel' des Eisenbahnmuseums anwesend. Dieses Dieselzugset ist nach Marlene Dietrich benannt, die weltberühmt war, als es in den Niederlanden zum ersten Mal auf die Schienen kam.

Mehrere Züge fuhren zwischen Goes und Hoedekenskerke. Natürlich habe ich viele Fotos entlang der Strecke gemacht, aber eine Fahrt mit dem Blauen Engel und dem Dampfzug konnte auch nicht zurückgelassen werden. Außerdem hatten die Kinder eine tolle Zeit auf dem Spielplatz. Es war ein erfolgreicher Tag für die ganze Familie.

New Haven Railroad ALCO DL-109 locomotive # 0724 with its passenger train is seen operating along the Shore Line in the snow at an unknown grade crossing location, ca early 1950's. The snow is not that deep, but provides a solid dusting on what appears to be a cold day. There are no crossing gates at this location, however; there are crossbucks and flasher lights. The paint job on Utah Railway 6062 is only about a month old and looks like it's radioactive. That won't last long. 6061 behind it is the last unit in Utah Railway gray left on the railroad.

Elk jaar organiseert de Stoomtrein Goes Borsele (SGB) het evenement Sporen naar het Verleden. Dan komen er diverse stoom- en diesellocomotieven of treinen in actie. Dit jaar waren dat de SHM 5 ' Enkhuizen', de SHD 2205, de CREW 2454 Plan U stel 151, de SSN 23 023 en de eigen locs SGB 22 'Otter' en 264 'Sik'. Daarnaast stonden op het depot in Goes de SGB omC 910 en omC 909, CREW 2454 C9002 'Jaap', SHD 302282 'Anneke' en SHD Plan D 60 84 978 1 005-1 Meetrijtuig CTO ter bezichtiging. Genoeg te zien dus. Het was schitterend weer en we hebben ons dus weer prima vermaakt.

Es gibt also viel zu sehen. Das Wetter war wunderschön und wir hatten wieder eine tolle Zeit.

Op 1 april werd de SKL geconfronteerd met de verzakking van de oever van het Valkenburgse Meer, waardoor zij niet meer het meer rond kon rijden. Alleen een beetje heen en weer rijden op het eigen terrein en naar de opslagloods behoorde nog tot de mogelijkheden. Maar als steuntje in de rug wilde ik toch nog een keertje langsgaan en er dan maar even lekker op los fotograferen. Me wat meer gericht op details, gebouwen en materieel in het museum zelf.

 

On April 1st, the SKL was faced with the subsidence of the Valkenburgse Meer shoreline, making it impossible to drive around the lake. Only a few trips back and forth within its own grounds and to the storage shed were still possible. But as a boost, I decided to visit again and take some photos. I'd focus more on details, buildings, and equipment within the museum itself.

 

Am 1. April war das SKL aufgrund der Absenkung des Ufers des Valkenburgse Meers nicht mehr befahrbar. Lediglich einige Fahrten innerhalb des Museumsgeländes und zum Lagergebäude waren noch möglich. Um mich davon nicht entmutigen zu lassen, beschloss ich, das Museum erneut zu besuchen und Fotos zu machen. Mein Fokus lag dabei auf Details, Gebäuden und Ausrüstung im Museum selbst.

New Haven Railroad ALCO PA-1 diesel locomotive # 0773 and a FM C-Liner lead a stop westbound passenger train at a station platform in Providence, Rhode Island, ca Mid 1950's. In this station scene you can also see a portion of the downtown area and what appears to be another train on the far right side. The Providence station was always interesting with its curved platform tracks and quit a few very good photo's were taken there over the years.

Dit jaar met mijn twee zonen naar het jaarlijks evenement 'Sporen naar het verleden' geweest. Naast de eigen loc 4389, waren dit jaar stoomloc 5 'Enkhuizen' van de SHM, de 23 023 van de SSN en Crew 2454 met hun 2454, Mat '64 stel 904 en mP 3029 aanwezig. Ook maakten de omC 909 en 910 enkele ritten. Dit jaar besteedden we vooral aandacht aan de omC 909 en 910. Het was weer een erg geslaagd evenement.

 

This year I went to the annual event 'Traces to the past' with my two sons. In addition to our own locomotive 4389, steam locomotive 5 'Enkhuizen' of the SHM, 23 023 of the SSN and Crew 2454 with their 2454, Mat '64 set 904 and mP 3029 were present this year. The OMC 909 and 910 also made a few journeys. This year we paid particular attention to the OMC 909 and 910. It was another very successful event.

 

Dieses Jahr war ich mit meinen beiden Söhnen bei der jährlichen Veranstaltung „Spuren in die Vergangenheit“. Neben unserer eigenen Lokomotive 4389 waren in diesem Jahr auch die Dampflokomotive 5 'Enkhuizen' der SHM, 23 023 der SSN und die Besatzung 2454 mit ihrer 2454, Mat '64 Set 904 und mP 3029 anwesend. Auch die OMC 909 und 910 machten einige Fahrten. Besonderes Augenmerk haben wir in diesem Jahr auf die OMC 909 und 910 gelegt. Es war wieder eine sehr erfolgreiche Veranstaltung.

New Haven Railroad DER-1b class ALCO DL-109 diesel electric locomotives 0743 & 0735 are seen leading a passenger train along the main line, ca 1946. These locomotives are most likely wearing the delivered Hunter green with gold pin stripe paint scheme. The car behind the second locomotive may be a PRR car from its appearance, a modified P70 possibly. You can see the engineer in his cab window. More than likely this is a location along the Shore Line Route and the train is perhaps one that operates between Boston and Washington, D.C., via Pennsylvania Station in New York City.

New Haven Railroad DERS-2b ALCO RS-2 road switcher # 0509, is seen while leading a consist of Pullman Standard post war lightweight stainless steel passenger cars, as it crosses the Cape Cod Bridge, in Massachusetts, late 1950's. These ALCO RS-2 road switchers came equipped with steam generators for passenger service. You can see the engineer appearing in the cab window.

Na een lange tussenpoos, o.a. vanwege Corona, bezochten we in 2022 weer de RTM. Deze dag werden diverse gemengde trams met stoom en diesel gereden. Natuurlijk stond de lus in de duinen bij De Punt op het lijstje van fotopunten, maar ook diverse plaatsen langs de lijn werden bezocht.

 

After a long interval, partly due to Corona, we visited the RTM again in 2022. This day several mixed trams with steam and diesel were driven. Of course the loop in the dunes at De Punt was on the list of photo points, but various places along the line were also visited.

  

Nach langer, unter anderem Corona-bedingter Pause, besuchten wir 2022 erneut das RTM. An diesem Tag fuhren mehrere gemischte Straßenbahnen mit Dampf und Diesel. Natürlich stand die Schleife in den Dünen bei De Punt auf der Liste der Fotopunkte, aber auch verschiedene Orte entlang der Strecke wurden besucht.

Denver & Rio Grande Western westbound Rio Grande Zephyr, led by EMD F9A locomotive # 5771 and F9B locomotives # 5762 & # 5763, is stopped for fuel, water and possibly for some food supplies at the station in Grand Junction, Colorado, Summer 1980. The building with the red tile roof that is behind the train on the right side of the photo is the station building.

 

Grand Junction is the mid way point location in the trip between Denver and Salt Lake City where the locomotives of westbound or eastbound Zephyr's are fueled and watered. The passenger cars also take on water at this location plus any required food or drink for the diner or lounge car are supplied here too. At this stop some minor required repairs can also be made or a substitute locomotive may be called upon if necessary.

New Haven Railroad DL-109 locomotive 0730 is seen leading a short passenger train in low light while exiting tunnel at an unknown location, 11-23-1957. This scene is typical of the weather and light conditions in New England at this time of year with a sort of dreary low light atmosphere.

New Haven Railroad GE 44 Ton diesel locomotive switchers 0800 & 0802 are seen spotted on a siding along side the electric zone main lines in Connecticut, ca 1960. The days are coming to an end for these old diesel locomotives switchers. Interesting too, but there is an old sweeping broom laying on the walkway of locomotive 0800.

In 2022 werd na twee jaar (Corona) weer Terug naar Toen georganiseerd door de Veluwse Stoomtrein Maatschappij (VSM). In actie kwamen de 44 1593, 50 307, 52 3879, 50 3654, 65 018, 23 071, 64 415, 2459, 2530 2233 en de SSN 01 1075 en 23 023. Samen met mijn twee zoons en een vriendje langs de lijn en in de trein doorgebracht. Het was schitterend weer; veel zon, maar daardoor helaas minder stoomontwikkeling. Weer een geslaagde dag uit.

 

In 2022, after two years (Corona), Back to Then was organized again by the Veluwse Steam Train Company (VSM). The 44 1593, 50 307, 52 3879, 50 3654, 65 018, 23 071, 64 415, 2459, 2530 2233 and the SSN 01 1075 and 23 023 came into action. Together with my two sons and a friend along the line and spent on the train. The weather was beautiful; lots of sun, but unfortunately less steam development. Another successful day out.

 

Im Jahr 2022, nach zwei Jahren (Corona), wurde Back to Then erneut von der Veluwse Steam Train Company (VSM) organisiert. Die 44 1593, 50 307, 52 3879, 50 3654, 65 018, 23 071, 64 415, 2459, 2530 2233 und die SSN 01 1075 und 23 023 kamen zum Einsatz. Zusammen mit meinen beiden Söhnen und einem Freund an der Strecke und im Zug verbracht. Das Wetter war schön; viel Sonne, aber leider weniger Dampfentwicklung. Ein weiterer erfolgreicher Ausflugstag.

Elk jaar wordt met Hemelvaart de Nationale Stoomtreindag georganiseerd. Meestal waren we dan bij de SGB of de RTM te vinden. Vorig jaar zijn we voor het eerst eens naar de VSM gegaan. Dat was ons goed bevallen. Samen met mijn oudste zoon ook dit jaar op pad naar Loenen, waar we bijna een privé showtje goederenwagens rangeren hadden. En de rest van de dag hebben we langs de lijn of in Beekbergen en Loenen doorgebracht, waarbij de nadruk lag op de 2530 met de goederentrein.

 

Every year on Ascension Day, National Steam Train Day is held. We were usually at the SGB or the RTM. Last year, we went to the VSM for the first time. We really enjoyed it. This year, my eldest son and I also went to Loenen, where we practically had a private show shunting freight cars. We spent the rest of the day along the line or in Beekbergen and Loenen, focusing on the 2530 freight train.

 

Jedes Jahr an Christi Himmelfahrt findet der Nationale Dampfloktag statt. Wir waren meist bei der SGB oder der RTM. Letztes Jahr waren wir zum ersten Mal bei der VSM. Es hat uns sehr gut gefallen. Dieses Jahr waren mein ältester Sohn und ich auch in Loenen, wo wir quasi eine Privatvorführung beim Rangieren von Güterwagen hatten. Den restlichen Tag verbrachten wir an der Strecke oder in Beekbergen und Loenen und konzentrierten uns auf den Güterzug 2530.

CSX EMD GP30 Road Slug # 2300 & GP40-2 Mother Locomotive # 6912, is seen at Uceta Yard in Tampa, Florida, 1989. Mother Locomotive combinations with Road Slugs, such as this, were often seen when operating on the former SAL line into Pinellas County which terminated at the edge of downtown Saint Petersburg, at that time.
