Elk jaar organiseert de Stoomtrein Goes Borsele (SGB) het evenement Sporen naar het Verleden. Dan komen er diverse stoom- en diesellocomotieven of treinen in actie. Dit jaar waren dat de SHM 5 ' Enkhuizen', de SHD 2205, de CREW 2454 Plan U stel 151, de SSN 23 023 en de eigen locs SGB 22 'Otter' en 264 'Sik'. Daarnaast stonden op het depot in Goes de SGB omC 910 en omC 909, CREW 2454 C9002 'Jaap', SHD 302282 'Anneke' en SHD Plan D 60 84 978 1 005-1 Meetrijtuig CTO ter bezichtiging. Genoeg te zien dus. Het was schitterend weer en we hebben ons dus weer prima vermaakt.

 

Every year the Stoomtrein Goes Borsele (SGB) organizes the event Tracks to the Past. Then various steam and diesel locomotives or trains come into action. In addition, at the depot in Goes were the SGB omC 910 and omC 909, CREW 2454 C9002 'Jaap', SHD 302282 'Anneke' and SHD Plan D 60 84 978 1 005-1 Measuring carriage CTO on display. So plenty to see. The weather was beautiful and we had a great time again.

 

Jedes Jahr organisiert der Stoomtrein Goes Borsele (SGB) die Veranstaltung Spuren in die Vergangenheit. Dann kommen verschiedene Dampf- und Diesellokomotiven bzw. Züge zum Einsatz. In diesem Jahr waren dies die SHM 5 „Enkhuizen“, die SHD 2205, die CREW 2454 Plan U Set 151, die SSN 23 023 und unsere eigenen Lokomotiven SGB 22 „Otter“ und 264 „Sik“. Darüber hinaus standen die SGB omC 910 und omC 909, CREW 2454 C9002 „Jaap“, SHD 302282 „Anneke“ und SHD Plan D 60 84 978 1 005-1 Messwagen CTO im Depot in Goes zur Besichtigung bereit. Es gibt also viel zu sehen. Das Wetter war wunderschön und wir hatten wieder eine tolle Zeit.

In de zomervakantie van 2023 moesten mijn vrouw en ik wegens familie omstandigheden halsoverkop naar Aberdeen, Schotland. Tijdens een van de laatste dagen daar, bleek de Caledonian Railway een speciaal evenement te hebben; de Caledonian Railway Sulzer Diesel Gala. Diverse door diesellocomotieven getrokken treinen reden tussen Brechin en Bridge of Dun. Op diverse plekken langs de lijn heb ik gefotografeerd en natuurlijk ook zelf weer een ritje gemaakt. Toch nog een geslaagde dag geweest.

 

During the summer holidays of 2023, my wife and I had to rush to Aberdeen, Scotland, due to family circumstances. During one of the last days there, the Caledonian Railway turned out to be having a special event; the Caledonian Railway Sulzer Diesel Gala. Several diesel locomotive-hauled trains ran between Brechin and Bridge of Dun. I took photographs at various places along the line and of course also went for a ride myself. Still a successful day.

 

Während der Sommerferien 2023 mussten meine Frau und ich aus familiären Gründen eilig nach Aberdeen, Schottland, reisen. An einem der letzten Tage dort hatte die Caledonian Railway ein besonderes Ereignis; die Caledonian Railway Sulzer Diesel Gala. Zwischen Brechin und Bridge of Dun verkehrten mehrere von Diesellokomotiven gezogene Züge. Ich habe an verschiedenen Stellen entlang der Strecke Fotos gemacht und bin natürlich auch selbst mitgefahren. Dennoch ein erfolgreicher Tag.

On August 2, 2005, I photographed this Diesel Locomotive at the Standard Sand & Silica Company from US Route 17/US Route 92 in Davenport, (Polk County) Florida. Standard Sand and Silica mines and supplies Sand to the Building/Masonry Industry. There Address is: Standard Sand & Silica 1850 U.S. Highway 17-92 North, Davenport, FL 33837.

Voorheen kwamen we regelmatig naar de ZLSM voor de stoomtreindagen. Helaas zijn die enkele jaren niet meer gehouden. Maar in 2023 was het gelukkig weer zover. De eigen 1040 reed onder stoom samen met de HSIJ 22 'Tom' en HSIJ 57 ' Bonne'. Ook stichting Crew 2454 met de 2454 en de mP 3029, de SMMR 2225, de SHD 2205 en De Karel stel 466 waren aanwezig. De SSN kwam met de 01 1075 en 23 023 met een extra rit langs. Er reden veel personentreinen, maar ook enkele goederentreinen voor de fotografen. Een erg geslaagd evenement op een schitterende dag.

 

We used to come to the ZLSM regularly for the steam train days. Unfortunately, they were not held for a few years. But in 2023 it was fortunately time again. Their own 1040 ran under steam together with the HSIJ 22 'Tom' and HSIJ 57 'Bonne'. Stichting Crew 2454 with the 2454 and the mP 3029, the SMMR 2225, the SHD 2205 and De Karel set 466 were also present. The SSN came along with the 01 1075 and 23 023 with an extra train from Rotterdam. Many passenger trains ran, but also some freight trains were scheduled for the photographers. A very successful event on a beautiful day.

 

Wir kamen regelmäßig zu den Dampfzugtagen der ZLSM. Leider haben sie mehreren Jahren nicht mehr stattgefunden. Aber glücklicherweise ist es 2023 erneut organisiert. Die eigene 1040 fuhr zusammen mit der HSIJ 22 „Tom“ und der HSIJ 57 „Bonne“ unter Dampf. Ebenfalls anwesend waren die Crew 2454 Foundation mit der 2454 und der mP 3029, die SMMR 2225, die SHD 2205 und das De Karel Set 466. Die SSN kam mit der 01 1075 und 23 023 mit einer Sonderfahrt aus Rotterdam. Es waren viele Personenzüge, aber auch einige Güterzüge für die Fotografen da. Eine sehr gelungene Veranstaltung an einem wunderschönen Tag.

Denver & Rio Grande Western westbound Rio Grande Zephyr, led by EMD F9A locomotive # 5771 and F9B locomotives # 5762 & # 5763, is stopped for fuel, water and possibly for some food supplies at the station in Grand Junction, Colorado, Summer 1980. The building with the red tile roof that is behind the train on the right side of the photo is the station building.

 

Grand Junction is the mid way point location in the trip between Denver and Salt Lake City where the locomotives of westbound or eastbound Zephyr's are fueled and watered. The passenger cars also take on water at this location plus any required food or drink for the diner or lounge car are supplied here too. At this stop some minor required repairs can also be made or a substitute locomotive may be called upon if necessary.

New Haven Railroad ALCO DL-109 locomotive # 0724 with its passenger train is seen operating along the Shore Line in the snow at an unknown grade crossing location, ca early 1950's. The snow is not that deep, but provides a solid dusting on what appears to be a cold day. There are no crossing gates at this location, however; there are crossbucks and flasher lights. The trains consist includes both heavyweight and lightweight equipment. Notice the long blade semaphore block signal on the left side of the photo.

Als full time vader en echtgenoot sta ik, op de incidentele hoofdlijnritten van de SSN of VSM en de evenementen na, bijna niet meer langs het spoor. Wat ik aan NS (of andere maatschappijen) materieel fotografeer is vaak bijvangst van stoom of museummaterieel waar ik voor op uit was getrokken. Gelukkig komt het nog wel een enkele keer voor dat ik even tijd heb, maar dat is helaas maar sporadisch.

Deze keer besloten mijn zoon en ik een dagje naar Amsterdam Cs te gaan om treinen te spotten. Dit had ik voor het laatst in de jaren '90 gedaan. Toen reden nog diverse materieeltypes die nu al lang van de sporen verdwenen zijn. Maar ik was ook wel benieuwd of ik nog steeds me lekker kon uitleven. En dat was gelukt.

 

As a full-time father and husband I hardly make pictures of regular trains. Almost only when the SSN or VSM has one of their rare main line trips, I am able to catch some regular trains too. So what I catch with my camera of the NS (or other companies) trains is often a side catch of steam or museum material passing by. Fortunately I do find occasionally some time to make pictures.

Thios time, my son and I decided to go to Amsterdam Central Station. The last time I spend a full day at this station photographing trains was in the early '90's. Lots of train types are out of service by now. But I was curious if I could stil;l spend a whole day at this station, enjoying myself. And we did.

Longmont, Colorado. The locomotive warming up for the journey ahead.

Dit jaar ben ik weer met mijn beide zonen en mijn vader naar Terug naar Toen van de VSM geweest. En natuurlijk stonden er natuurlijk weer veel locs onder stoom. Dit jaar was de 23 023 van de SSN weer te gast en werd er een line-up van de drie rijvaardige 23ers georganiseerd. De gebruikelijke goederentreinen tussen Beekbergen en Apeldoorn reden dit jaar alleen in de ochtend. Dus daar lag in de ochtend de focus op. In de middag werd vooral rondom Loenen doorgebracht. Het was weer een schitterend spektakel met prachtig weer.

 

Dieses Jahr bin ich mit meinen beiden Söhnen und mein Vater nach Zurück nach Damals der VSM gefahren. Und natürlich waren wieder viele Loks unter Dampf. In diesem Jahr war der 23 023 der SSN zu Gast und eine Aufstellung der drei fahrenden 23er wurde organisiert. Die üblichen Dampf Güterzüge zwischen Beekbergen und Apeldoorn liefen dieses Jahr nur am Morgen. Das war der Fokus am Morgen. Am Nachmittag wurde hauptsächlich um Loenen herum verbracht. Es war wieder ein großartiges Spektakel mit schönem Wetter.

 

This year my both sons, my father and I went the event "Terug naar Toen (Back to then) by the VSM. And of course, many locs were under steam again. This year the SSN's 23 023 was guest locomotive and a line-up of the three running 23ers was organized. The usual steam goods trains between Beekbergen and Apeldoorn were only running in the morning this year. So that was the focus for the morning. In the afternoon we mainly spend our time around Loenen. Again it was a magnificent spectacle with beautiful weather.

The days are coming to an end for these old diesel locomotives switchers. Interesting too, but there is an old sweeping broom laying on the walkway of locomotive 0800.

Norfolk Southern #5290 GP38-2 sits off line in Morrisville Yard PA

Hiding inside the overgrown waterworks building I posted a photo of yesterday is this hulking contraption, which a fellow explorer has ID'd as an antique diesel engine, no doubt for pumping water.

 

New Haven Railroad DER-1b class ALCO DL-109 diesel electric locomotives 0743 & 0735 are seen leading a passenger train along the main line, ca 1946. These locomotives are most likely wearing the delivered Hunter green with gold pin stripe paint scheme. The car behind the second locomotive may be a PRR car from its appearance, a modified P70 possibly. You can see the engineer in his cab window. More than likely this is a location along the Shore Line Route and the train is perhaps one that operates between Boston and Washington, D.C., via Pennsylvania Station in New York City.

New Haven Railroad DER-1c class ALCO DL-109 locomotive 0703 is "Condemned" and is spotted on a siding at an unknown location in Pennsylvania, ca 1960. Unfortunately this locomotive is heading to be scrapped, and it is among my favorite diesel electric locomotives.

Door Corona en familieomstandigheden, waren we niet in staat om bij Plandampf in het Werratal te zijn. Maar na zoveel jaar kruipt het bloed toch waar het niet gaan kan. Daarom besloten mijn vader, mijn oudste zoon en ik in de meivakantie naar het voormalige Oost-Duitsland af te reizen om daar te genieten van smalspoor stoom.

Nadat we twee dagen de Zittauer Schmalspurbahn hadden bezocht, gingen we door naar Dresden. Daar werd als eerste de Lössnitzgrundbahn bezocht, gevolgd door de Weißeritztalbahn. En tenslotte werd de Fichtelbergbahn bezocht. Onderweg nog een bezoekje gebracht aan het station museum Schlettau, waar we in 1992 nog rondgelopen hebben tijdens Plandampf rondom Aue

 

Due to Corona and family circumstances, we were unable to join Plandampf in the Werratal. But after so many years, the blood creeps where it can't go. That is why my father, my eldest son and I decided to travel to the former East Germany during the May holidays, to enjoy narrow-gauge steam.

After visiting the Zittau Narrow Gauge Railway for two days, we continued to Dresden. The Lössnitzgrundbahn was the first to be visited there, followed by the Weißeritztalbahn. And finally we visited the Fichtelbergbahn. On teh way up there, we visited the museum station Schlettau. Last time we were here was during Plandampf in and around Aue in 1992.

 

Aufgrund von Corona und familiären Umständen konnten wir leider nicht bei Plandampf im Werratal sein. Aber nach so vielen Jahren kriecht das Blut dahin, wo es nicht hin kann. Deshalb haben mein Vater, mein ältester Sohn und ich beschlossen, in den Maiferien in die ehemaligen DDR zu reisen, um Schmalspurdampf zu genießen.

Nach einem zweitägigen Besuch der Zittauer Schmalspurbahn ging es weiter nach Dresden. Als erstes wurde dort die Lössnitzgrundbahn besichtigt, gefolgt von der Weißeritztalbahn. Und zuletzt besuchten wir die Fichtelbergbahn. Auf den Farht nach Cranzahl haben wir noch das Bahnhof Museum von Schlettau besucht. Hier waren wir in 1992 während den Plandampf Vernastaltung rundum Aue.

Dit jaar ben ik weer met mijn beide zonen en mijn vader naar Terug naar Toen van de VSM geweest. En natuurlijk stonden er natuurlijk weer veel locs onder stoom. Dit jaar waren de 01 1075 van de SSN, de 1289 van de ZLSM en de 01 1066 van de UEF te gast en werd er een line-up van de twee 01-en georganiseerd. Het was weer een schitterend spektakel met redelijk weer.

 

Dieses Jahr bin ich mit meinen beiden Söhnen und mein Vater nach Zurück nach Damals der VSM gefahren. Und natürlich waren wieder viele Loks unter Dampf. In diesem Jahr waren die 01 1075 der SSN, die 1289 der ZLSM und die 01 1066 der UEF zu Gast. Eine Aufstellung der beide 01-er wurde organisiert. Es war wieder ein großartiges Spektakel.

In 2023 werd weer Terug naar Toen georganiseerd door de Veluwse Stoomtrein Maatschappij (VSM). Hoogtepunt dit jaar was het weer in dienst komen van de 41 241. Dat was duidelijk te merken aan de hoeveelheden toeschouwers en fotografen langs de lijn ; ) In actie kwamen naast de 41 241, ook de 44 1593, 50 307, 52 3879, 50 3654, 65 018, 23 071, 64 415, 2459, 2530 en de SSN 01 1075. Samen met mijn oudste zoon langs de lijn en op het depot doorgebracht. Het was schitterend weer; 's ochtends mist en later veel zon, maar daardoor helaas minder stoomontwikkeling. Weer een geslaagde dag uit.

This was clearly noticeable from the numbers of spectators and photographers along the line ; ) In addition to the 41 241, the 44 1593, 50 307, 52 3879, 50 3654, 65 018, 23 071, 64 415, 2459, 2530 and the SSN 01 1075 were also in action. Spent along the line and at the depot with my eldest son. The weather was beautiful; mist in the morning and later a lot of sun, but unfortunately less steam development. Another successful day out.

 

Im Jahr 2023 wurde 'Zurück nach Damals' erneut vom Veluwse Stoomtrein Maatschappij (VSM) organisiert. Der Höhepunkt in diesem Jahr war die Wiederinbetriebnahme der 41 241. Jedes Jahr organisiert der Stoomtrein Goes Borsele (SGB) die Veranstaltung Spuren in die Vergangenheit. Dann kommen verschiedene Dampf- und Diesellokomotiven bzw. Züge zum Einsatz. In diesem Jahr waren dies die SHM 5 „Enkhuizen“, die SHD 2205, die CREW 2454 Plan U Set 151, die SSN 23 023 und unsere eigenen Lokomotiven SGB 22 „Otter“ und 264 „Sik“. Darüber hinaus standen die SGB omC 910 und omC 909, CREW 2454 C9002 „Jaap“, SHD 302282 „Anneke“ und SHD Plan D 60 84 978 1 005-1 Messwagen CTO im Depot in Goes zur Besichtigung bereit. Es gibt also viel zu sehen. Das Wetter war wunderschön und wir hatten wieder eine tolle Zeit.

New Haven Railroad ALCO PA-1 diesel locomotive # 0773 and a FM C-Liner lead a stop westbound passenger train at a station platform in Providence, Rhode Island, ca Mid 1950's. In this station scene you can also see a portion of the downtown area and what appears to be another train on the far right side. The Providence station was always interesting with its curved platform tracks and quit a few very good photo's were taken there over the years.

With a distant rumble from its Allis-Chalmers 6-cylinder diesel engine No. 17, the Diema locomotive built at Bremen, Germany, during 1979, for the Taiwan Sugar Corporation, eases its train over the afon Banwy bridge nr Heniarth hauling two ex Austrian 4 wheel carriages and a Hungarian MAV bogie coach, forming the 15:45 pm service from Llanfair Caereinion to Welshpool Raven Square on the delightful Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway.

New Haven Railroad DERS-1b class Alco RS-1 locomotive 0664 is seen in the yard at Braintree, Massachusetts, July 24, 1957. This locomotive is wearing the McGinnis paint scheme. It was always great to hear these locomotives when operating, because their deep sounding 6 cylinder ALCO 539-T prime mover made such an interseting sound with the chirping away of their turbo-chargers.

'Sporen naar het Verleden'is het jaarlijkse evenement bij de SGB. Diverse eigen locomotieven vaak ook gast materieel is aanwezig om dit evenement op te luisteren. Dit jaar was de 'Blauwe Engel' van het spoorwegmuseum aanwezig. Dit dieseltreinstel is vernoemd naar Marlene Dietrich, die op het moment dat het voor het eerst in Nederland op de rails kwam, wereldberoemd was.

Diverse treinen reden tussen Goes en Hoedekenskerke. Natuurlijk veel gefotografeerd langs het spoor, maar een ritje in de Blauwe Engel en de stoomtrein kon natuurlijk ook niet achter blijven. Verder hebben de kinderen zich uitstekend vermaakt in de speeltuin. Het was een geslaagde dag uit voor de hele familie.

 

'Tracks to the past' is the annual event at the SGB. Various own locomotives and often also guest locomotives are present to liven up this event. This year the 'Blue Angel' of the Dutch railway museum was present. This diesel train set is named after Marlene Dietrich, who was world famous when this train got into service in the Netherlands.

Several trains ran between Goes and Hoedekenskerke. Of course I made a lot photographs along the track, but a ride in the Blue Angel and the steam train could not be left behind. Furthermore, the children had a great time in the playground. It was a nice day out for the whole family.

 

'Spuren in die Vergangenheit' ist die jährliche Veranstaltung der SGB. Verschiedene eigene Lokomotiven, oft auch Gast Züge, verleihen dieser Veranstaltung Glanz. In diesem Jahr war der 'Blaue Engel' des Eisenbahnmuseums anwesend. Dieses Dieselzugset ist nach Marlene Dietrich benannt, die weltberühmt war, als es in den Niederlanden zum ersten Mal auf die Schienen kam.

Mehrere Züge fuhren zwischen Goes und Hoedekenskerke. Natürlich habe ich viele Fotos entlang der Strecke gemacht, aber eine Fahrt mit dem Blauen Engel und dem Dampfzug konnte auch nicht zurückgelassen werden. Außerdem hatten die Kinder eine tolle Zeit auf dem Spielplatz. Es war ein erfolgreicher Tag für die ganze Familie.

In Langres, a fast Mulhouse – Paris Est “Corail” passes a freight train. Both have a 2650 kW CC-72000 on the point. The CC 72041 on the freight train is set on freight service gear, limiting its speed at 85 km/h, while the other engine, set on passenger service, can reach 160 km/h.

Dit jaar ben ik met mijn oudste zoon voor de tweede keer naar de Havendagen in Rotterdam geweest; meestal waren we bij de Veluwse Stoomtrein Maatschappij voor 'Terug naar Toen' stoomtreinen kijken, òf naar de vliegshow Sanicole in België. Een fantastische ervaring deze havendagen. Veel demonstraties van het loodswezen, de Koninklijke Reddingsmaatschappij en het Corps Mariniers. We keken onze ogen uit. De Havendagen staan voor de komende jaren zeker weer op de planning.

 

This year I went with my eldest son to the Port Days in Rotterdam for the second time; Usually we were at the Veluwse Stoomtrein Maatschappij to watch steam trains 'Back to Then', or at the Sanicole air show in Belgium. A fantastic experience these port days. Many demonstrations by the pilotage service, the Royal Rescue Society and the Marine Corps. We were amazed. The Port Days are certainly planned again for the coming years.

Naast de eigen loc 4389, waren dit jaar stoomloc 5 'Enkhuizen' van de SHM, de 23 023 van de SSN en Crew 2454 met hun 2454, Mat '64 stel 904 en mP 3029 aanwezig. Ook maakten de omC 909 en 910 enkele ritten. Dit jaar besteedden we vooral aandacht aan de omC 909 en 910. Het was weer een erg geslaagd evenement.

The OMC 909 and 910 also made a few journeys. This year we paid particular attention to the OMC 909 and 910. It was another very successful event.

 

Dieses Jahr war ich mit meinen beiden Söhnen bei der jährlichen Veranstaltung „Spuren in die Vergangenheit“. Neben unserer eigenen Lokomotive 4389 waren in diesem Jahr auch die Dampflokomotive 5 'Enkhuizen' der SHM, 23 023 der SSN und die Besatzung 2454 mit ihrer 2454, Mat '64 Set 904 und mP 3029 anwesend. Auch die OMC 909 und 910 machten einige Fahrten. Besonderes Augenmerk haben wir in diesem Jahr auf die OMC 909 und 910 gelegt. Es war wieder eine sehr erfolgreiche Veranstaltung.

The paint job on Utah Railway 6062 is only about a month old and looks like it's radioactive. That won't last long. 6061 behind it is the last unit in Utah Railway gray left on the railroad.
