Opening this case the wrong way would cause a flashbulb inside to fire, exposing the film wrapped around the bulb.
The Device Art exhibition at the Ars Electronica Center spotlights exemplary objects that put a fun, playful exterior on a serious, high-performance core. Nevertheless, all the items on display are, at least potentially, suitable for use in everyday life.

We have this intricately carved wooden device, which I bought in our local sqaure one night from a West African vendor.
A Flickr contact, Riaz Ahmed Afridi informed me that these products are made in the part of Pakistan where he lives: "Khyber Agency, Tirah Valley Maidan".
Looking at the large depression on this side of the cylinder, it looks likely that this damage occured when it fell from the sky against the rocks in that area. Its pretty rusty so I figured it was pretty old.

I'm still enchanted and mesmerized by my stay at the historic Hotel Fort Des Moines for business travel this week.
This beautiful, old hotel, where former celebrities, foreign royalty and presidents alike have stayed, has captured both my heart and my imagination. I have researched that it originally opened in 1919.
I hope to stay here again on my next trip to Des Moines, for business or for pleasure.

At Kennedy Space Center in Florida Space shuttle Endeavour, now attached to Shuttle Carrier Aircraft 905, is pushed back from the Mate-Demate device at the Shuttle Landing Facility.
The Optoelectronic Component and Materials Laboratories (or OCM Labs) is a collection of graduate students, post doctoral fellows, visiting scientists and research staff who are engaged in investigating an enormous variety of phenomena and devices related to electronic materials and optics. Some of the work involves the basic physics of new semiconductor and organic materials, some focuses on devices using these materials, and yet other work looks at the system impact of optical devices and structures. The unifying goal of our work is the realization of practical optoelectronic devices.

An electronic pencil for the removal of unwanted hair. This is the "Dual" version and so can be used for facial hair and those more stubborn body hairs!
It is essentially a battery powered electrolysis device. It takes either 4 or 5 LR1 1.5v batteries (not included). A needle is fitted to one end and this inserted into the hair follicle. Current flows through your hand (holding the pen) and through your body to the needle.

This is a photograph from a set of photographs of the Celbridge AC Ray Crofton Kia 5KM Road Race and Fun Run which was held at Celbridge AC running track, Clane Road, Celbridge, Co. Kildare, Ireland on Sunday 16th August 2015 at 10:30. The 5KM route today is a new revised route for 2015 making it different to the successful 5KM race held annually by the club in the past.
The race started on the Clane Road outside the Celbridge AC grounds and proceeded on a left-handed loop which took participants close to Celbridge mainstreet before taking a left turn westwards to return back to the Clane Road and the grounds of Saint Wolstan's Community School and North Kildare Educate Together. The final 600meters of the race were held on the beautifully manicured grass track of Celbridge AC. The race was held in beautiful summer weather with temperatures of around 16C making very favourable and pleasant conditions for participants. There was excellent marshalling and route layout with stewards on all junctions to ensure safe traffic management. Refreshments were served after the race where many participants enjoyed the morning sunshine and sat down on the grass around the track to talk and review the race. The race also marked a significant milestone for Celbridge AC who are celebrating 50 years as an athletic club. A family and community fun day was planned for after the race to make the 50th anniversary celebrations. Celbridge is a small town on the banks of the River Liffey and is only a short distance from the county border line with Dublin. The proximity to Dublin sees Celbridge boast a large population and the race today reflected this with a very large number of local athletes taking part from the 295 participants.

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. For many years, as a requirement of the course, Occupational Adaptations and Introduction to Modalities, students make assistive devices of potential use to people with disabilities.
On Wednesday March 18, 2015 MOT students showcased their devices during class.
Largo de Carmo is a small, tree-lined square at the back of Igreja do Carmo. This is a place worth spending a few minutes to enjoy before or after visits to the church ruins and museum. This is where you find the entrance to this attraction as well.
Here you will find several restaurants lining the square with outdoor seating as well as an interesting fountain structure designed by Angelo Belasco in 1771. The fountain adds to the atmosphere of the square and is worth having a quick look-see.
This is a good spot to take a break from sightseeing if you fancy a sit-down, bite to eat and/or drink. The atmosphere is nice and the square feels more intimate and quieter than the many larger plazas spread around the city.
