Shortly after 7.30 am on Sunday morning, a long planned Panorama was executed, The combination of golden hour light, a early season frost and scattered cloud created this Beautiful Scene, this in one of the early images on this weeks video. This and many other images can be accessed via the link below from 8 pm Monday night (NZT) bit.ly/3GPspmx
We are accustomed to seeing blue, yellow, purple, white and grey budgerigars in captivity, but this rainbow range of colour mutations is only beneficial in the aviaries of breeders. Any deviation from the illustrated norm would result in their absence from the breeding pool and a meal for a hawk.
Unfortunately not fully operational as a 'leaf buster' due to an earlier maintenance issue requiring a deviation to Doncaster, DBC 66205 is seen approaching Saxilby Station with 3J42 Doncaster -Sleaford- Peterborough RHTT, 66119 bringing up the rear 28th November 2024.
A Cross-bill American Kestrel ? Not really, Dorval, a 13 year old male at the time of this shooting, had had an accident leaving him with a permanent deviation of the lower part of his beak. He was a star at the Raptor's Center "Chouette Ć Voir". I believe he died last year which would have made him 15 years old.
Considering I was on a West of England Rover this deviation from either travelling behind Westerns or photographing from the line-side could at the time be counted as a strange move. However, in hindsight it is a capture of a time when branch lines had perhaps better stock and there was not too much fuss over getting photos from angles like this. In any event, "doing" a branch line round here was far better on a local rover than on a full Western Region one.
There is even a reporting number in the head-code panel.
56010 is on the B.R. built 1972 deviation at Kirkby in Ashfield, Notts. on 23rd April 1990 with a south bound MGR working.
The deviation was built to relieve traffic queues at a level crossing in the town. There used to be so many coal trains that, even over 50 years ago, road traffic was severely delayed.
This short section of line joined the Midland, at a point beyond the rear of this train, and then joined the Great Northern at Kirkby summit. Another small link from roughly where todays Kirkby Lane End Jn. is connected back with the Midland line down through Pinxton.
The Midland route through the town could then be closed.
No coal trains today of course, but the line is still in use as part of the Robin Hood line from Worksop and Mansfield to Nottingham.

In this view NR51 has been lifted and now sits upright after being on its side along with NR35. The crew van is still on site and clearing of the damaged wagons and loading is underway as an SCT train curves through the site via a deviation.

As a deviation from recently posted items in my photostream, in this photo there are no special effects, no textures, no layers, no photoshop, just a simple picture straight from the camera of my boys enjoying the sunset in the fields near our house, and I love it :)
The quantity that determines the curvature of space-time is the Riemann curvature tensor, which is included in the equation of the deviation of geodesic lines.

Experimenting today with shooting RAW. The C-Lux has an idiosyncratic RAW format that Apple doesnāt support (grrrrrābut Lightroom on iPad does, as of recently), but the camera itself supports RAW processing under user control. All the appropriate basic functionality is available, but I still did not quite recover detail in the brightest highlights. Otherwise, pretty good, and clearly an improvement over the default JPG conversion. Since I have been shooting for 8 months and have only filled half the 64GB SD card in the camera, I think Iāll switch from JPG to RAW+JPG, and dig detail out of the highlights & shadows before conversion when necessary.

Stroboscope.
I thought I would try and avoid meters and rules for this weekās Macro Mondays groupās theme measurement, mainly because I had done them before.
This is the device on my vinyl record turntable for making sure it is rotating at precisely the right speed. This is important because the pitch that the recorded music is played is directly proportional to the rotation rate of the record.
Old high-end turntables like this one had a direct drive motor on which the speed could be finely adjusted to correct any change.
The tableās stroboscope is a light of regularly fluctuating brightness shining onto the spinning plate. The fluctuations are caused by the mains alternating current which in the UK fluctuates at 50 cycles a second, though in America and some other countries with lower voltages the electricity fluctuates at 60 cycles to carry more power in compensation.
In the picture you can see four rings around the spinning table. The rings are all made as a string of black and white blocks a bit like Morse code.
In daylight all four would be equally blurred but in the light of the stroboscope you can see the third ring outwards is seen as black and white blocks. Thatās because the lamp is only lighting the blocks when they are in one position, and is dim while they move on to the next position, taking the place of the block in front of it. Minor deviations from the target speed cause the blocks to move slowly around, and you can then adjust the motor speed until they still.
There are four rings, two for the two turntable speeds (for singles and LPs) for each of the two electricity alternating rates (50 and 60 cycles per second). A neon bulb is used because it fluctuates in brightness much more during the alternating current cycle than a hot filament would, which explains the orange colour. The bulb lights a plastic prism which directs the light down by inner reflection.
In physics omega is often used as the symbol for angular velocity (rotation speed) hence the title.
The image is just over two inches in total width, so within the group limits. The device is not interested in measuring the size of the deviation, just whether it exists and in which direction so that it can be eliminated.
Thank you for taking time to look. I hope you enjoy the image! Happy Macro Mondays :)
[Tripod mount; remote release; self-lit. The shutter speed was limited to show the blur.
A focus stack of eight images in Affinity Photo (not enough really for this aperture as you can see by the bands of softness in the turntable plinth surface; I should have used a smaller aperture).
A bit of tidying up from stacking artefacts around the prism edge.
A little tweaking in Curves LAB mode for colour and luminosity.
Finally sharpened using Unsharp Mask.
Yep, a dark vignette would be entirely pointless (though I was tempted!) :) ]

58041 slogs up towards Kirkby summit on the B.R. built 1972 deviation at Kirkby in Ashfield, Notts. on 1st May 1990.
It was built to end the traffic queues at a level crossing in the town. So many coal trains passed through on the Midland line back then, it caused buses and other traffic to be severely delayed.
The deviation was from just south of where Sutton Parkway station is today, to join the former Great Northern line near where Kirkby Summit signal box was.
At the southern end, close to where today's Kirkby Lane End junction is, a short link re-connected with the Midland down to Pinxton and the Erewash Valley.
No coal trains today, but the line is still used by the Robin Hood passenger services from Nottingham to Mansfield and Worksop, plus the occasional EMU drags to and from storage in Worksop yard.
CORP 4075 leads the first of two unit pipe trains heading to Stratton Colorado on the KYLE. Pipe trains are not new to the KYLE but certainly deviation from the norm. The pipe will be used for pipeline running north of Denver to Cushing Oklahoma from what I understand.
BR 08485 descends the deviation line and passes Widnes West Deviation Yard (Hutchinson Street) with a trip working from Tanhouse Lane Blue Circle Cement to Ditton Yard April 16th 1991.
I have shots here in the winter of 1985 and the yard was in use and staffed but six years on it lies empty and in the process of being removed.
* The original line from Carterhouse before the deviation line was built passed this point on the right hand side of the yard alignment.
** This image was taken from the Queensway access road to the Runcorn Bridge and if you could stand here today the Mersey Gateway Access crosses the view roughly at the rear of the train.
OK...I have NO idea what mood I was in as I was working on this!! :-)
But right now everything is all flowers and sunshine here... and SPRING! I needed a little change...if only for a minute!! hehehe

(Title as tribute to the 'love and rockets' song).
There is this bad habit. Sometimes, driving from point A to point B, (this happens via bicycle more), a deviation occurs. A glimpse of some framed sunset, an old building, a landscape, a gathering of people, or..a something draws attention. This was stabilized by the roof rack on the car, and somehow caught just how blue the sky was, a rarity in the California smog.
The song:
