Brandon Boyd

After a two-year break following touring their critically middling seventh studio album, 2011’s If Not Now, When?, Los Angeles-based post-grunge rockers Incubus are back with new music in the form of E.P. Trust Fall (Side A), with Side B due out later this year.

Always a band to shift with the times and experiment rather than remain within their comfort zone, Incubus have always been a collective of rock, funk and punk with a DJ element thrown in, making them stand out amongst their peers and likely what has carried them through the high and lows of their 24-year career to date.

Following the release of Trust Fall (Side A) in March 2015, Incubus are back on the live circuit with a single stop at West London’s Hammersmith Apollo venue, following a string of European festival appearances, for “An Evening With Incubus”, their first show in almost three years.

Following a five minute digital countdown clock displayed on the huge screen that provided the stage it’s backdrop, bassist Ben Kenny, drummer José Pasillas, DJ Chris Kilmore and guitarist Mike Einziger strolled onto the stage and took up their positions as the intro to Morning View track Wish You Were Here began to make itself known. Frontman Brandon Boyd then made his entrance to huge cheers from the 5,000-strong sold-out crowd. And by the time the chorus came around, the crowd had been whipped into frenzy. Next track Light Grenades hit Anna Molly was quickly followed by If Not Now, When? single Adolescents, which served to calm down proceedings a little.

Frontman Brandon Boyd owned his audience from the moment he stepped into the bright light setup of the show and exuded all the energy expected from a heavyweight rock show, the obligatory shirt removal coming part way through the set. While rarely addressing the crowd, aside from to say thank you, he bounded about the stage, often crouching down on his monitors or leaping off them.

But it was bassist Ben Kenney who had the crowd chanting out his name early on in the set which led the frontman to take a moment out to acknowledge the audience’s love for his bandmate and bow to him.

New song Absolution Calling from the Trust Fall E.P. had the crowd singing along before moshing at the front took on a new lease of life with S.C.I.E.N.C.E. favourite Vitamin.

A slowed-down, stripped-back first verse of Make Yourself hit Pardon Me had the 39-year-old frontman grinning as the crowd sang back every word and prematurely sang him back the chorus before the band launched into the song proper.

A Crow Left of the Murder song Agoraphobia was introduced by Boyd as a song not played live for a while and led into Trust Fall track Dance Like You’re Dumb, which sounded as though it could easily have come from pre-major label record S.C.I.E.N.C.E.

A Crow Left of the Murder opener Megalomaniac closed the main set, the band segueing into Nirvana’s Come As You Are during a brief interlude.

Probably their biggest commercial hit, Make Yourself song Drive, opened up a three-song encore. It had to be played but was never going to be this band’s set list tent pole. In fact, with such an extensive back catalogue of roof-shattering rock anthems and delicately crafted, honey-slick mellower picks, there was never a dull moment or a single standout peak in the rollercoaster ride, two-hour set.

After a career as extensive as Incubus have had, it’s easy to see how the factory of music-making can get stuck along the way, but tonight has proven that not only has the factory received a well-deserved oil, with Incubus back making standout new music, but that the machine is back at full-throttle with clever and articulate song crafting and instrumentation at the helm.

Incubus’ live show too doesn’t falter in the slightest, seem exhausted or rely on a single standout hit from the past. This writer and photographer certainly left the West London venue of tonight’s performance with very sore through from singing (yelling?) along with pretty much every song from their epic, career-spanning set.

Delicate Arch as seen from the upper view point at sunset. Arches National Park, Utah

May 28, 2012 - A view of Delicate Arch located in Arches National Park.

A 5 second exposure at f2.8 on a near 50 year old zeiss 80mm with a 55mm extension tube.

Unfortunately the water main had become contaminated hence the high level of dirty and marking on the picture.

The bokeh and gradation of this lens I must admit surprised me more than I though was possible and I must say I think I may persist with some macro flower photography on the strength of this shot.

This shot shows the relative size of Delicate Arch in Arches National Park.

We should be able to shoot the Northern Taurid meteor shower on Nov12.

Northern Taurids - Nov 12

"The NTA peak has only a waning crescent Moon, however. With near-ecliptic radiants, all meteoricists can observe these streams, albeit northern hemisphere observers are somewhat better-placed, as here suitable radiant zenith distances persist for much of the night, though from the southern hemisphere, a good 3-5 hours' watching around local midnight is possible with Taurus well above the horizon."

Isn't she delicate? She looks always so fragile. <3 She's the most girly girl of all of my girls lol.

There is a nice hike that leads up to this beautiful arch. It was cloudy, but we took a chance and went anyway, and just before sunset the sun showed up and gave us this gorgeous light.

Scenes from a trip I took to Arches National Park in Moab, Utah, USA in July, 2005. The reddish sandstone & the weathered shapes are truly beautiful! The park is said to contain "the world's largest concentration of natural stone arches." (http://www.utah.com/nationalparks/arches.htm). I certainly had fun seeing them! At the time, before I had learned to crop photos & balance them, I thought none of my shots were any good. I am now putting up a few that I think are worth seeing. This photo gives some perspective on the size & location of Delicate Arch. It is located about a third of the way from the left edge of the photo; you can see the sky through it. The hike to get to it is prohibitively difficult, particularly with Utah's summer temperatures. There is no shade along the way at all; it is completely on the rock face. We opted to take a lesser hike across the rock face from the overlook. Even so, it was well worth seeing!

Part of my Capture your 365 project for August 2013. Todays prompt was "Delicate"

We took the trail to Delicate Arch, it's a 1.5 mile trek all uphill on either soft sand or flat rock, oh did I mention it was in the 90's. We were exhausted by the time we reached the top. The wind was howling at the top and we both felt rather exposed what with a sheer drop on our left side, so I only got a few shots and this is the best.

Delicate Arch is truly an icon of the Southwest and Utah. After the Maroon Bells, it appears also to be one of the most popular photography spots in the region. There must have been around 50 photographers present for sunset. I took 78 exposures, and I reckon that was below average. (The gentleman next to me was bracketing seven exposures at 9fps on his D3.). That means there are likely at least 4,000 images of this particular sunset at Delicate Arch out there somewhere…

Like teardrops these tiny glass balls hang from the ceiling. Its not the first place I saw them, nor do I feel it will be the last I will see of them, but I do know that it looks like the slightest breeze could bring them all shattering to the floor.

"Let me show you

Sweet smell of a delicate whisper

Behind the vision of gardens,

Go and read of your life

Tiny ripping at the heart

Drunk from a rose."

As always - thanks a lot for your inspiring support, my friends. Happy Sunday to all...!

Thats what Nature is about. Dew drops and the way grass blades hold them never stop to wonder me. I've attempted to do some tonal treatment to the captures to bring out the mood. Let me know if its good or better techniques you know.

I've taken this shot using Raynox DCR 250 closeup adapter on Nikkor 50mm f1.8 AF-D lens.

Vic has a very particular way to move. She is all delicate, like she did everything in slow mo. She loves to lay down an strech both her arms for a belly rub! She loves to be petted on her armpits too!

This is a new Allium I planted earlier this year, it is 18 inches high and just bursting into life. I love the delicate colour.

Thanks for looking and maybe commenting. Will be back later to catch up with your images. Have a nice day.

A gorgeously coloured, tiny, and delicate flower found in a garden in my neighborhood last September; I have no idea what this little flower was called, but I love its interlocking petals and bright reds, pinks and magentas!

If anyone can help me identify this beautiful flower, I would be grateful!

Big thanks go out to annetteleduff, who has informed me this beautiful flower is a Pink Carnation!

Delicate Arch, Arches National Park, Utah at sunset.

Jess and I hiked up 45min to see Delicate Arch. The path was pretty icy but well worth it. Delicate Arch is truly an amazing sight and it is bigger than I imagined. Unfortunately the sky was all cloudy and the sun couldn't break through. So we left and called it a day.

The next day we hiked around the park to see a couple arches. The landscape is beautiful with all the snow. In the afternoon the clouds started to disappear and it looked like it was going to have great light for the sunset. So we drove back to the Delicate Arch Trailhead. I hiked up the hill again and set up for this panorama shot. I stayed till the sun set completely, packed up my gear and started hiking down the hill in the dark. It was freezing cold, but luckily Jess was waiting in a warm car...

This panorama is a series of eight shots stitched together.

I have always been charmed by the form and delicate color of this flower.
