January 29 - February 4: delicate ... and shadows

My beautiful Neice. Overly Tired, her emotions were so delicate, she was crying because she didn't want to be put in her carseat to leave. I love sweet, soft baby skin and her bright blue eyes. <3

"Delicate" can refer to something that is easily damaged or broken, requiring careful handling.

Delicate Arch is an abandoned natural arch in Entrada sandstone.

Delicate Arch overlooks the Cache Valley and dwarfs the humans who gather around it.

I've made this hike several times and it is a bit of an uphill slog to get here. But I've passed eighty year-old guys and families. There are always families in Utah.

In the background are the La Sal mountains, about twenty five miles away.

Delicate Arch is a 52-foot-tall freestanding natural arch located in Arches National Park, near Moab in Grand County, Utah, United States.

The arch is the most widely recognized landmark in Arches National Park and is depicted on Utah license plates and a postage stamp commemorating Utah's centennial anniversary of admission to the Union in 1996.

The Olympic torch relay for the 2002 Winter Olympics passed through the arch.

it's a long hike to get to the best vantage points to photograph it.

I reworked my original photo of the Delicate Arch. I used LAB color mode and tried to open up the shadows a little. The colors really become intense as you near sundown. This is the arch that is seen on Utah's license plates.

The famous Delicate Arch in Arches National Park near Moab, Utah. To get this perspective I had to sit on a precarious sandstone cliff with about a 75 degree slope... worth it.

We might kiss when we are alone

When nobody's watching

We might take it home

We might make out when nobody's there

It's not that we're scared

It's just that it's delicate

Upper Viewpoint

The viewpoint sits atop the cliffs to the south of Winter Camp Wash, only half a mile as the crow flies from the famous arch itself. It offers a great panorama of the Arches lands, with Delicate as its focal piece. There are no trails from these viewpoints to the arch itself. If you want to hike right up to Delicate Arch, return down the road to the Wolf Ranch Trailhead.

This is a VINTAGE Japanese Furisode. Furisode are formal kimono for young, unmarried women. This piece likely originates in the late Showa Period (1926 - 1989) or Heisei Period (1989 - present). This kimono features a delicate pattern of lilies and chrysanthemums on a rich purple background.

I have inspected this furisode in detail, and there is very minimal damage: only a few small spots here and there. Overall, I would rate this furisode in excellent vintage condition. This garment is 100% silk.

MEASUREMENTS:

167cm - Long (Collar to Hem)

132cm - Arm span

62cm - Width across the back

138cm - Total width of skirt

106.5cm - Sleeve drop

SIZING:

If you are unsure of how to interpret the kimono's size it is important to know that the length (collar - hem) should be approximately 10cm longer to 10cm shorter than the wearer's overall height (longer is better). This is because the excess length will be folded up at the waist. Meanwhile, the skirt should wrap around the hips a full 1.5 times. The armspan should also reach wrist to wrist on the wearer. If this kimono is worn with a waist fold, it will ideally fit a woman about 157cm (5'2") - 177cm (5'10") tall. This kimono will ideally fit a woman with hips about 92cm (36") around. There is some give and take in these measurements though.

These are so pretty and look like they are made of silk.

Because of its distinctive shape, the arch was known as "the Chaps" and "the Schoolmarm's Bloomers" by local cowboys. Many other names have been applied to this arch including "Bloomers Arch", "Mary's Bloomers", "Old Maid's Bloomers", "Pants Crotch", "Salt Wash Arch", and "School Marm's Pants".

In the 1950s, the NPS investigated the possibility of applying a clear plastic coating to the arch to protect it from further erosion and eventual destruction. The idea was ultimately abandoned as impractical and contrary to NPS principles.

Delicate Arch is formed of Entrada Sandstone. The original sandstone fin was gradually worn away by weathering and erosion, leaving the arch."

The strength of beauty and the brands of time is a natural phenomenon

This is undoubtedly the most popular attraction in the park. It is easy to see why just from the arch formation itself. However, being there in person you get to see just how "delicately" the arch is positioned. In front of the arch is a very large bowl of the same sandstone while directly behind the arch is a sheer cliff of a couple hundred feet. It really gives you a sense of how unique this formation is to have retained this shape when all the sandstone around it has been worn away over time...

(It's just that it's delicate)
