Delicate Arch Viewpoint

March 2009

This was a black day for me. After visiting Delicate Arch last June (2008), I wanted to return with Margie to show her the beauty of the location, and to capture some images I had in my mind's eye. Well the left knee was really bothering me, and this 1.5 mile trail is virtually uphill all the way. I also didn't anticipate the warm temperature (for March), and I did not pack my bandana or neck cooler. We brought plenty of water, but that was insufficient to be comfortable or safe. About 7/8 of the way up, I had to stop. I started getting nauseated and chilled, and I still had to walk back. I stopped and rested, cried, and after that catharsis, I started back down. I was pissed. So instead, Margie and I walked out to the Delicate Arch viewpoint, and I shot this pano instead.

10 image pano at 200 mm (Nikkor 80-200 f/2.8) ; stitched with PTGui and processed further with CNX2 and PSP

My knee will get better and Margie promised we'd try it again.
