August 5, 2009 - Temple Israel, Boston.
A vigil to mourn for the victims, pray for the injured, and express our outrage at the shooting at the GLBT Center in Tel Aviv. Nir Katz, 26, and Liz Trubeshi, 16, were murdered when a masked gunman opened fire in a basement room where teenagers were holding a weekly support group. At least 10 others were also wounded, mostly teenagers.

In 2002 in Switzerland the Islamic Center and the Somali Association of Geneva, SOS Racisme of Lausanne, along with a private citizen, sued her for the supposedly racist content of The Rage and The Pride.[7][8] In November 2002 a Swiss judge issued an arrest warrant for violations of article 261 and 261 bis of the Swiss criminal code and requested the Italian government to either try or extradite her. Roberto Castelli, Italian minister of Justice mentioned this fact in an interview broadcast by Radio Padania affirming that the Constitution of Italy protects freedom of speech and thus the extradition request was to be rejected; the episode is mentioned in her book The Force of Reason.[9]
In May 2005, Adel Smith, president of the Union of Italian Muslims, launched a lawsuit against Fallaci charging that "some of the things she said in her book The Force of Reason are offensive to Islam." Smith's attorney, Matteo Nicoli, cited a phrase from the book that refers to Islam as "a pool that never purifies." Consequently an Italian judge ordered her to stand trial set for June 2006 in Bergamo on charges of "defaming Islam." A previous prosecutor had sought dismissal of the charges. The preliminary trial began on 12 June in Bergamo and on 25 June Judge Beatrice Siccardi decided that Oriana Fallaci should indeed stand trial beginning on 18 December.[10] Fallaci accused the judge of having disregarded the fact that Smith called for her murder and defamed Christianity.[11]

You all know I've shot Conor a LOT over the years but tonight was super special because Desaparecidos reunited & played their first show in LA in about 10 years. Two years ago I flew to Omaha to shoot their reunion show & it was amazing having them do a mini tour (& they're releasing new material, too!). Be sure to catch their set at FYF Fest this Sunday @ 7:55.
I'll put more photos up from this show I'm sure it'll just have to be after FYF.

In the Philippines they had a place they called "Smoky Mountain". It was the home for hundreds of people whose job it was to scavenge for trade-able items. This boy walks off into the ever present fog to his dangerous and filthy job. A few years after this photo part of the rubbish hill, with houses on it, collapsed and swallowed many people.

Erica Greenblatt never seems to stay in one place for long. In addition to her love of travel (she has visited 30 countries across 6 continents so far), she has moved 12 times in the last 14 years all over New York City. Most recently, Erica landed on a surprisingly spacious Turtle Bay studio on 54th Street and 2nd Avenue, her first apartment without any roommates. As the director of development for the Anti-Defamation League, a civil rights organization tasked with fighting bigotry, Erica raises funds needed for the group’s education and advocacy programs.

Daniel Adams took a minie ball to the temple at Shiloh and lived to tell about it, losing his right eye. He saw action again at Vicksburg, wounded again at Murfreesboro and Chickamauga where he was captured. After his exchange he was promoted to Brig. Gen. and led a cavalry brigade in Alabama. Adams was a native of Kentucky and his family moved to Mississippi where his father was a judge in Jackson. In 1843 a Vicksburg newspaper wrote an article about Judge Adams that his son considered defaming and in an altercation killed the man. Tried for murder he was acquitted. General Adams lived after the war in New Orleans where he practiced law and died in 1872. Brought back to Jackson for burial in Greenwood Cemetery, P.G.T. Beauregard served as a pallbearer. This stone marks his presence. His actual resting place is by his brother, and fellow Brig. Gen., Wirt Adams in an unmarked grave. (Photo 12 of 33)
