A cyclo driver waiting for us outside the Toul Sleng Torture Museum.

Phnom Penh, Cambodia 1990 was in the midst of war and under nighttime curfew. There were very few cars or motorcycles on the streets with most people riding bicycles and cyclos. Ruins of buildings destroyed by the Khmer Rouge were still common. Very few foreigners could enter the country other than NGO workers and maverick journalists. I was there under the auspices of the UN.

Although I do need to charge for other professional, corporate or commercial uses, as I also have to make money to live. I can then supply a high resolution finished image which is sized to your needs.

Been listening to Plan B's album whilst photoshopping some dive shots. I think the monotone treatment suits the subject and composition.

I found a lovely right-priced mid-century modern vanity today. It's a perfect find.

BAD RELIGION - "Vanity"

I'll strike it if I don't like it.

Gimme a club and I will have myself a riot.

I'm a monkey with a brick on my shoulder

And I'm getting bolder.

Let's deny and defame.

Let's destroy and recreate in our glorious name,

And when the joke of our centrality is upon us,

Grovel and decry

Our vanity.

Disgraced to face our own humanity,

In a world that mocks our tragedy.

Hyper-aware and impaired.

Terrified by nature's mocking stare.

Yearning for significance beyond our animal ken,

On which we do depend.

Such vanity.

Isolated with our own inanity.

Entangled by our callow gravity.

Disgraced to face our own humanity.

Toul Sleng Torture Museum was still being set up. This wooden sign seemed very out of place. Many people had carved their names and comments into the walls.

UNWORT DES JARES 2011 / UNWORD of the YEAR 2011

Rationale:

The term DO-GOODER is particularly addressed in Internet forums, the ethical ideal of "good people" in malicious ways to think differently to defame flat and without consideration of their arguments, and dismiss as naive.

Much like the also mostly used in defamatory intent expression Wutbürger (anger citizen) contradicts the pejorative term used gooder basic principles of democracy, which include the necessary guidance on ethical principles of political action and the ideal of negotiation of common social value orientations in rational discussion.

Although the term is used for 20 years in the manner complained of here. In 2011, he is but in different sociopolitical contexts become influential, and thus has defamation potential as a combat term unfolds strengthened against dissenters.

The principles

__________________________________________________________________________

__________________________________________________________________________

The principles

The campaign wants to "unword of the year" on public forms of language use to draw attention and thus promote language awareness and language awareness in the population. It directs therefore critical look at the language-words and phrases in all fields of public communication, in violation of substantive adequacy or humanity, for example:

• because they violate the principle of human dignity (eg gossip of the moment for cases of abuse in the Catholic Church)

• because they violate principles of democracy (such as alternative as an attitude / position in the political discussion in order to avoid this and to avoid the mandatory argument),

• because they discriminate against certain groups in society (eg through inappropriate simplification or blanket condemnation, such as the refuse of prosperity as a description of working people unwilling as unable to work),

• because they are euphemistically, concealing or misleading (eg voluntary departure as a term for the authorities not only to a limited and voluntary return of asylum seekers in detention centers in their home countries).

It is essential that the relevant words and phrases were uttered in public, have a certain relevance and context of the utterance is known or documented. The number of supporters of a proposal does, however, in contrast to the above criteria, no substantive role..

Gutmensch

Be sure to catch their set at FYF Fest this Sunday @ 7:55.

I'll put more photos up from this show I'm sure it'll just have to be after FYF.

In contrast to the patriotic, colorful war propaganda posters of the first half of the 20th century, the 1960s and 70s gave rise to another type of political advertisement -- the simply drawn, sometimes sobering protest poster. Decorating the bulletin boards of college campuses, these posters served as rallying cries for peace, defamations of Nixon and the federal government, and tributes to the martyrs of the civil rights movement.
