Beni, North Kivu Province: The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General in the DRC, Leila Zerrougui has paid a day’s working visit to Beni. She held discussions with the acting Mayor and the command of the FARDC (Operation Sokola 1). She also met with various groupings including civil society and elected representatives of Beni. Discussions centered on the ongoing efforts to flash out armed groups especially the ADF and MONUSCO’S mandate of protecting the civilian population of Beni and its environs. Goma, North Kivu, DRC: The Nyirangongo volcano, one of the most active in the Great Lakes region, erupted on Saturday, May 22, causing the displacement of populations who feared for their safety. MONUSCO helicopters carried out reconnaissance flights over the crater and brought in specialists to monitor and advice on the state of the volcano after the eruption.
MONUSCO has remained actively engaged alongside the Congolese population and authorities to deal with this situation. Its civil and military engineering team reopened the Goma-Rutshuru-Butembo road section, which is vital for the supply of food to the population of Goma
Peacekeepers in Goma also provided healthcare, distributing food and water to some displaced persons. MONUSCO has also remained present and continues to hold its positions in the city. Its Indian peacekeepers are patrolling 24/7 on the different routes to monitor and prevent theft-related incidents and lootings in abandoned areas.MONUSCO peacekeepers from China are working to improve traffic on the national road n° 2, between Goma, in North-Kivu, and Bukavu, in South-Kivu. making it possible for thousands of vehicles to reach Bukavu and seek refuge against the latest natural disaster which hit the city of Goma.

MONUSCO Force Commander General Ricardo Neves was in Matombo (36km northeast of Beni) and then to Mamove (about ten km west of Oicha) an area of armed groups including the ADF and MM and where the Force intervention Brigade has planted its units to protect civilians. He boosted the moral of South African peacekeepers who live in very difficult conditions because of the difficulty of the terrain (rain, sludge etc.) often preventing vehicles from leaving the base ,and encouraged them work to continue to pursue their mandate to protect the civilian population. In his delegation were several civilian and military officials including the commander of the FIB, Major-General Patrick Dube, the head of the Office ai of the MONUSCO Beni, Josiah Obat. On the occasion of International Day of Peace 2021, the Blue Helmets of Central Sector celebrated the day with multiple events organised with an aimed at enlightening the young generation regarding the importance of peace and unity in the development of society. Aligned with the 2021 theme of 'Recovering better for an equitable and sustainable world', activities were organized for the Youth, women and children to promote thinking creatively and collectively about how to help everyone recover better, how to build resilience and how to transform our world into one that is more equal, more just, equitable, inclusive, sustainable and healthy,. Beni, North Kivu, the commander of the FIB, Major-General Patrick Dube and the FARDC military engineering commander travelled to Kasinga on 2 June 2020 to inspect construction works on the Kasinga-Kididiwe Road. The delegation then went to the FARDC base in Kididiwe2 where they exchanged with the commander of the 3406 Regiment on the protection of civilians. Bunia, Itui province, DR Congo - The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, was in Bunia, Ituri Province on the 23 and 24 January 2020. She visited displaced persons accommodated at the site of the Higher Pedagogical Institute (ISP) in Bunia, as well as victims of torture and sexual violence at SOFEPADI a center of rehabilitation for victims of sexual violence and torture. She also met with officials of MONUSCO, Government and leadership of opposing factions in the ongoing conflict in the Province. She was moved by the situation of the displaced persons and victims of sexual violence whom she met and promised to convey to the United Nations Security Council and to the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, their concerns as well as their hopes of seeing sustainable peace return to Djugu territory.

Beni, North Kivu Province Congo: The Undersecretary General (DPKO)Mr. Lacroix and the Director General (WHO)Mr. Tedros Adhanom of the United Nations were in Beni as part of their visit to the DRC. At the end of the visit they spoke to the media and reiterated the continuous support for the fight against the Ebola spread in the DRC. Beni, North Kivu Province: The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General in the DRC, Leila Zerrougui has paid a day’s working visit to Beni. She held discussions with the acting Mayor and the command of the FARDC (Operation Sokola 1). She also met with various groupings including civil society and elected representatives of Beni. Discussions centered on the ongoing efforts to flash out armed groups especially the ADF and MONUSCO’S mandate of protecting the civilian population of Beni and its environs. DRC: The United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres payed a visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo from the 31 August to 2 September 2019.In Goma he held meetings with the MONUSCO leadership, Staff Union and Humanitarian actors. He also visited the DDRRR repatriation camp in Munigi where he met some ex combatants and their families. In Beni he laid a wreath for fallen Peacekeepers and visited the Mangina Ebola Operations center where he met Ebola survivors and discharged patients. The SG ended his visit in Kinshasa where he held discussions with the President of the Republic, prime minister, National Assembly as well as opposition and governing parties and the civil society. He was accompanied by Brazilian Ambassador to the DRC During the visit the Force commander reviewed the Medal Presentation parade of the South African Battalion in Beni which saw a match Past as well as drill display and traditional dancing They also met with senior military officers and the Head of Office of MONUSCO Beni.
