Goma, North Kivu, DRC: The Nyirangongo volcano, one of the most active in the Great Lakes region, erupted on Saturday, May 22, causing the displacement of populations who feared for their safety. MONUSCO helicopters carried out reconnaissance flights over the crater and brought in specialists to monitor and advice on the state of the volcano after the eruption.
MONUSCO has remained actively engaged alongside the Congolese population and authorities to deal with this situation. Its civil and military engineering team reopened the Goma-Rutshuru-Butembo road section, which is vital for the supply of food to the population of Goma
Peacekeepers in Goma also provided healthcare, distributing food and water to some displaced persons. MONUSCO has also remained present and continues to hold its positions in the city. Its Indian peacekeepers are patrolling 24/7 on the different routes to monitor and prevent theft-related incidents and lootings in abandoned areas.MONUSCO peacekeepers from China are working to improve traffic on the national road n° 2, between Goma, in North-Kivu, and Bukavu, in South-Kivu. making it possible for thousands of vehicles to reach Bukavu and seek refuge against the latest natural disaster which hit the city of Goma.

Kalehe, South Kivu, DRC: The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General in the DRC Bintou Keita was in Kalehe in South Kivu on 18 May 2023,where a natural disaster claimed the lives of several people on 4 May 2023. She was accompanied by the MONUSCO Police commissioner, the Head of office of MONUSCO in South Kivu as well as senior leadership of other UN agencies in the DRC. Fifteen teams with local community and personnel from MONUSCO, UN agencies as well as international and national NGOs rode their tshukudus – many for the first time in their lives - across the streets of Goma and later enjoyed a concert with risk education music and messages.

In Bukavu, the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action was celebrated through demining demonstrations, open concerts and risk education plays with a view to raise awareness amongst the communities about the risks posed by mines and explosive remnants of war (ERW).

Beni, North Kivu, the commander of the FIB, Major-General Patrick Dube and the FARDC military engineering commander travelled to Kasinga on 2 June 2020 to inspect construction works on the Kasinga-Kididiwe Road. The delegation then went to the FARDC base in Kididiwe2 where they exchanged with the commander of the 3406 Regiment on the protection of civilians. Beni, North Kivu Province: The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General in the DRC, Leila Zerrougui has paid a day’s working visit to Beni. She held discussions with the acting Mayor and the command of the FARDC (Operation Sokola 1). She also met with various groupings including civil society and elected representatives of Beni. Discussions centered on the ongoing efforts to flash out armed groups especially the ADF and MONUSCO’S mandate of protecting the civilian population of Beni and its environs. Fizi, South Kivu, DRC - Reassured by the presence of MONUSCO peacekeepers from Pakistan, 8,000 internally displaced persons have returned to Bibogobogo, in the Fizi Moyens Plateaux. About 12,000 people had fled this village to take refuge in Baraka, following the clashes between the Mayi-Mayi militiamen and the Twirwaneho combatants, from October 13 to 27, 2021. 1st African School Champions Cup organized by FIFA (International Football Federation). The U16 men's and women's teams from Benin, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Morocco, Senegal and South Africa competed over one weekend in Kinshasa. Girls and boys players also participated in workshops on living together, including one on positive masculinity with UN Women. Executives from federations and ministries of sport of the participating countries also took part in workshops to reflect on sport as a tool for development and promotion of gender equality. Moroccan women and Congolese men won the cup in their category.
1ère Coupe d'Afrique des Champion.ne.s Scolaires organisées par la FIFA ( Fédération internationale de football). Les équipes des moins de 16 ans dames et hommes d'Afrique du Sud, Bénin, Éthiopie, Maroc, Sénégal, et République démocratique du Congo se sont affrontées durant tout un weekend à Kinshasa. Les joueurs et les joueuses ont aussi participé à des ateliers sur le vivre ensemble, dont un sur la masculinité positive avec ONU Femmes. Les cadres des fédérations et ministères du sport des pays participants ont aussi pris par à des ateliers de réflexion sur le sport comme outil de développement et de promotion du genre et de l'égalité des sexes. Les dames marocaines et les hommes congolais ont remporté la victoire dans leur catégorie.

Beni, North Kivu Province Congo: The MONUSCO Force commander Lieutenant General Elias Rodrigues Martins Filho has paid a working visit to Beni on Friday 7 June 2019. Kalehe, South Kivu, DRC: The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General in the DRC Bintou Keita was in Kalehe in South Kivu on 18 May 2023,where a natural disaster claimed the lives of several people on 4 May 2023. She was accompanied by the MONUSCO Police commissioner, the Head of office of MONUSCO in South Kivu as well as senior leadership of other UN agencies in the DRC.
