Goma, Nord-Kivu, RD Congo – La Journée internationale des droits de la femme a été marqué ce vendredi matin par une parade des femmes officiers de l’armée (FARDC) et de la police (PNC) nationales congolaises. Des femmes membres de la Force MONUSCO, différentes associations de femmes ainsi que les autorités provinciales et les représentants de la MONUSCO et des agences des Nations unies ont participé à cet évènement. Beni, North Kivu Province Congo: The MONUSCO Force commander Lieutenant General Elias Rodrigues Martins Filho has paid a working visit to Beni on Friday 7 June 2019. He was accompanied by Brazilian Ambassador to the DRC During the visit the Force commander reviewed the Medal Presentation parade of the South African Battalion in Beni which saw a match Past as well as drill display and traditional dancing They also met with senior military officers and the Head of Office of MONUSCO Beni. DRC: The United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres payed a visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo from the 31 August to 2 September 2019.In Goma he held meetings with the MONUSCO leadership, Staff Union and Humanitarian actors. He also visited the DDRRR repatriation camp in Munigi where he met some ex combatants and their families. In Beni he laid a wreath for fallen Peacekeepers and visited the Mangina Ebola Operations center where he met Ebola survivors and discharged patients. The SG ended his visit in Kinshasa where he held discussions with the President of the Republic, the prime minister, National Assembly as well as opposition and governing parties and the civil society. Goma, North Kivu, DRC: The Nyirangongo volcano, one of the most active in the Great Lakes region, erupted on Saturday, May 22, causing the displacement of populations who feared for their safety. MONUSCO helicopters carried out reconnaissance flights over the crater and brought in specialists to monitor and advice on the state of the volcano after the eruption.

MONUSCO has remained actively engaged alongside the Congolese population and authorities to deal with this situation. Its civil and military engineering team reopened the Goma-Rutshuru-Butembo road section, which is vital for the supply of food to the population of Goma

Peacekeepers in Goma also provided healthcare, distributing food and water to some displaced persons. MONUSCO has also remained present and continues to hold its positions in the city. Its Indian peacekeepers are patrolling 24/7 on the different routes to monitor and prevent theft-related incidents and lootings in abandoned areas.MONUSCO peacekeepers from China are working to improve traffic on the national road n° 2, between Goma, in North-Kivu, and Bukavu, in South-Kivu. making it possible for thousands of vehicles to reach Bukavu and seek refuge against the latest natural disaster which hit the city of Goma.

In Goma a risk education relay race in “tshukudu”, a traditional wooden scooter used for transportation, was organized. Fifteen teams with local community and personnel from MONUSCO, UN agencies as well as international and national NGOs rode their tshukudus – many for the first time in their lives - across the streets of Goma and later enjoyed a concert with risk education music and messages.

Au cours d’une visite des stands érigés à cette occasion, elle a salué le travail des agences des Nations Unies et de la MONUSCO, ainsi que celui des défenseurs des droits humains, en les encourageant à être des porte-voix des personnes vulnérables, notamment les enfants, les albinos et des personnes vivant avec handicap pour que leurs droits soient respectés. Kinshasa, DR Congo: The Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in the DRC, Leila Zerrougui, visited on Sunday the "Village of Human Rights", to inquire about the commemorative activities of the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. During a visit to the stands erected on that occasion, she praised the work of UN agencies and MONUSCO, as well as that of Human Rights defenders, by encouraging them to be spokespeople for vulnerable ones, notably children, albinos and people living with disabilities for their rights to be respected. Kinshasa, RDC - Le 23 octobre 2020, la Police MONUSCO a remis 100 barrages routiers de fabrication locale,10 mégaphones, des produits sanitaires COVID-19 et des kits de matériels informatiques au Commissariat général de Police nationale congolaise (PNC) ville de Kinshasa, afin de soutenir l'effort de protection des civils. Kinshasa, DRC - On October 23, 2020, MONUSCO Police handed over 100 locally manufactured roadblocks, 10 megaphones, COVID-19 sanitary products and computer hardware kits to the Congolese National Police Commissioner’s office for the city of Kinshasa, to support the efforts for the protection of civilians. Kasinga-Kididiwe, Nord-Kivu, RD Congo : La Force de la MONUSCO, en coopération avec les Forces armées de la RDC (FARDC), procède à la réhabilitation de la route Kissinga-Kididiwe-Lahe. Plus de la moitié (55%) des travaux a déjà été réalisée sur cette route longue de 6 km. Sa remise en état devrait faciliter les mouvements des troupes pour la protection des civils mais aussi stimuler l’activité économique dans la zone en donnant à la population locale un accès plus facile aux marchés. Kasinga-Kididiwe, Nord-Kivu, DR Congo: The MONUSCO Force, in cooperation with the Armed Forces of the DRC (FARDC), is carrying out the rehabilitation of the Kissinga-Kididiwe-Lahe road. To date, more than half the work (55%) has been done on this 6 km long road. Its rehabilitation will facilitate the movement of troops for the protection of civilians, as well as stimulate economic activity in the area by giving the local population easier access to markets. Goma, Nord-Kivu, RDC : Dans le cadre du renforcement des capacités de la Police Nationale Congolaise, la MONUSCO a remis ce mercredi 27 mai 2020 un important lot de matériel à l’Unité de la Police technique et scientifique de la PNC, notamment des imprimantes, microscope, scanner, ordinateurs, appareils photos ainsi qu’un abonnement internet d’un an. « Ce don vient à point nommé pour résorber un certain nombre de défis auxquels l’antenne provinciale de la Police technique et scientifique du Nord-Kivu est confrontée dans l’établissement de preuves par manque de matériel approprié », a déclaré Omar Aboud, chef de bureau de la MONUSCO Goma. Goma, North Kivu, DRC: As part of capacity-building for the Congolese National Police, on Wednesday, May 27, 2020, MONUSCO made an important donation of equipment to the Technical and Forensic Unit of the PNC, namely printers, one microscope, one scanner, computers, cameras and a one-year internet subscription. Kalehe, South Kivu, DRC: The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General in the DRC Bintou Keita was in Kalehe in South Kivu on 18 May 2023,where a natural disaster claimed the lives of several people on 4 May 2023. She was accompanied by the MONUSCO Police commissioner, the Head of office of MONUSCO in South Kivu as well as senior leadership of other UN agencies in the DRC.
