DRC: The United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres payed a visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo from the 31 August to 2 September 2019.In Goma he held meetings with the MONUSCO leadership, Staff Union and Humanitarian actors. He also visited the DDRRR repatriation camp in Munigi where he met some ex combatants and their families. In Beni he laid a wreath for fallen Peacekeepers and visited the Mangina Ebola Operations center where he met Ebola survivors and discharged patients. The SG ended his visit in Kinshasa where he held discussions with the President of the Republic, the prime minister, National Assembly as well as opposition and governing parties and the civil society. Beni, North Kivu Province: The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General in the DRC, Leila Zerrougui has paid a day’s working visit to Beni. She held discussions with the acting Mayor and the command of the FARDC (Operation Sokola 1). She also met with various groupings including civil society and elected representatives of Beni. Discussions centered on the ongoing efforts to flash out armed groups especially the ADF and MONUSCO’S mandate of protecting the civilian population of Beni and its environs. Kabasha, Nord-Kivu, RDC : La MONUSCO a établi depuis quelques jours une unité de combat permanente (SCD) à Kabasha, une cité située à quelques 25 kms de Beni sur l’axe Beni-Butembo, dans la province du Nord-Kivu, pour protéger les populations ainsi que les équipes de riposte contre la maladie à virus Ebola. Il s’agit de casques bleus du bataillon Malawite qui, depuis leur arrivée et bien que leur camp soit toujours en construction, mènent des patrouilles de jour comme de nuit dans un rayon d’au moins 18 km pour dominer la zone et empêcher les groupes armés Mayi-Mayi de s’attaquer aux populations. Kabasha, North-Kivu, DRC: MONUSCO has recently established a permanent combat deployment (SCD) in Kabasha town, located some 25 km from Beni on the Beni-Butembo road in North Kivu province, to protect the population as well as the Ebola response teams. Since being deployed, and though the camp is still under construction, the unit composed of peacekeepers from the Malawian battalion, has been conducting day and night patrols within a radius of at least 18 km to dominate the area and prevent Mayi-Mayi armed groups from attacking the population. DRC: The United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres payed a visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo from the 31 August to 2 September 2019.In Goma he held meetings with the MONUSCO leadership, Staff Union and Humanitarian actors. He also visited the DDRRR repatriation camp in Munigi where he met some ex combatants and their families. In Beni he laid a wreath for fallen Peacekeepers and visited the Mangina Ebola Operations center where he met Ebola survivors and discharged patients. The SG ended his visit in Kinshasa where he held discussions with the President of the Republic, the prime minister, National Assembly as well as opposition and governing parties and the civil society.
