Mr. Brown Pelican is out of touch with reality. While this lighthearted statement adds sorely needed humor to an otherwise tense situation, Mr. Pelican has never gotten ahead because of his hard work or innovative ideas. Rather, all of Mr. Pelican's successes are due to kickbacks, bribes, black market double-dealing, outright thuggery, and unsavory political intrigue. That notwithstanding, Mr. Pelican is still culpable for plotting to till the demonic side of the insurrectionism garden. We must bring fresh leadership and even-handed tolerance to the present controversy.
Mr. Pelican's intent is to prevent us from asking questions. He doesn't want the details checked. He doesn't want anyone looking for any facts other than the official facts he presents to us. I wonder if this is because most of his "facts" are false. And now, to end with a clever bit of doggerel: United we stand. Divided we fall. Mr. Brown Pelican's nugatory precepts will destroy us all.

In 1992 artist Nick Cave sat in a Chicago park, still reeling from news of the Rodney King beating and ensuing Los Angeles riots. Feeling Vulnerable and that he -- like any African American man -- could be targeted, he gathered Sticks from the ground. At the studio, he turned these sticks into his first Soundsuit, a wearable Sculpture and defensive shell. Often seen as a celebration of movement and material, Cave's Soundsuits mask the body, erasing identity. Now, more than twenty years later, Cave takes us inside the belly of one of his iconic sculptures with this immersive installation Until -- a play on the phrase "innocent until proven guilty" or, in this case, "guilty until proven innocent." Cave's work began as a protective response to violence, and, with Until, he tackles the recent deaths of African Americans in the United States -- Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Tamir Rice, Oscar Grant... the list goes on -- eulogizing these victims while providing a platform for civil discourse, debate, and, ultimately, hope.
Until began with a question Cave asked himself: Is there racism in heaven? Instead of providing a direct answer, Cave offers us an experience. Across this space, visitors traverse a sculptural forest of metallic lawn ornaments --punctuated by images of guns, bullets, and targets, positioning us all as culpable, vulnerable, and potentially under attack --before arriving at a crystal cloud topped by a garden of found ceramic birds, metal flowers, and black-face lawn jockeys. By removing the lawn jockeys (cast-iron figurines and racist remnants) from circulation, Cave transforms them into agents for change, placing beaded nets in their hands as dream catchers. Our journey through Until continues to a cliff wall constructed of millions of woven plastic beads, an immersive video, and a metaphoric cleansing in a Mylar waterfall.
Until is also a site for performances and community engagement, with the immersive installation becoming a stage for testimonials, music, dance, poetry, and discussion. In the end, Cave takes off the protective mask his Soundsuits. Once provided, offering an environment to discuss important issues in a space that is at Once Seductive, provocative, and -- ultimately -- optimistic.
An inmate of the gaol named Herman Langsdors, 56 years of age, was found dead in bed yesterday morning when his cell door was opened. The position of the body indicated that he had passed away while asleep. A doctor was immediately summoned, and certified that the deceased died from heart failure. The deceased was serving a sentence of two years' hard labour, with five years' reformative treatment, and, his time being nearly completed, he was to have been released next month on the recommendation of the Prisons Board. The head gaoler states that be was quiet, inoffensive, and well-behaved, and had never had a day's sickness while under his charge. An inquest will be held by Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M., this morning at nine o'clock.

SUDDEN DEATHS IN GAOL
TERM NEARLY EXPIRED.
With barely one month separating him between the prison walls and freedom. Herman Langsdorf, a prisoner undergoing a two-year sentence and five years' reformative treatment at Mount Eden gaol, died in his sleep in the cell yesterday, death being due to heart failure. He went to bed the previous night apparently in a normal condition, but when the gaoler went to call him in the morning he found that he was still in bed, presumably Going into the cell to rouse him he was horrified to find that the man was dead.
At the inquest which was held in the gaol this morning by Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M., Dr. Murray, prison surgeon, who examined deceased after death, stated that the news that he was shortly to be released from gaol might have excited the man, though it was improbable that the excitement would have been of a kind to cause the man to die in his sleep. Deceased, he added had been suffering from rupture, and, having a weak heart, he had been given light duties to perform, such as ordinary kitchen work.
Chief Warder Ironside stated that deceased had borne an excellent character while in gaol, and on the recommendation of the Prison's Board would have been released in the middle of next month.
The Coroner returned a verdict of death from sudden heart failure while asleep.

THE case of the man Herman Langsdorf proves once again what an easy matter it is for an utter stranger to successfully pass off valueless cheques onto unsophisticated tradesmen. In. the Police Court last week Herman pleaded guilty to six charges of obtaining money by this method. No doubt Herman is culpable enough, but when are business people going to learn sense and refuse to cash cheques at the request of any casual and plausible person who may happen to drop into their establishments and purchase one or two articles? Competition can't be as keen as all that. Over and over again cases of the kind quoted crop up in the courts, and yet the wily game goes merrily on. Under the circumstances, the victims have only themselves to blame if they lose money.

Ioh got this uncontrollable urge in him to play with a ball of yarn that was on the rooftop of the parking lot. He mewled as he batted it around playfully. Finally returning to his senses, he stood back up. "That was... interesting." While looking back at the ball of yarn, he tried not to look too intrigued by it.
Amara watched in amusement. "See? This is why I keep a ball in my pocket. To resist the pouncing habit." She chuckled then stuck her tongue out at him.
"Well, if it works better than the patch." He said to her while smirking. After clearing his throat, replied, "Anyways, I know someone was going to come meet us, or we were to find them, but I can't remember."
After sniffing the air Amara began coughing. "Maybe we were supposed to find them?"
"I guess." Ioh shrugged, "Maybe like some initiation test or something. See if we're good at hunting or something."
"Were we supposed to hunt her?" Amara pointed behind him to the female that has just emerged.
Trinity walked up to the roof of the garage. She carried herself with the air of a feline matron. The tiara on her head was exemplary of what she felt was her rightful station in life. Her eyes glimmered cheerfully bright at the pair and looked both of them up and down. Her tail swept back and forth, making a soft sound like silk sliding upon velvet. "You must be the newcomers. Roxy told me of you - one of you at any rate." Her eyes narrowed, not smiling at the comment she happened to hear from Amara. "Hunt?"
Turning around, Ioh blinked as he saw Trinity. Truth was, he had only met one of the leaders, so he wasn't sure who this was. Looking at the pale cat with a meek smile, he scratched the back of his head, "Well, I wasn't sure if it was part of initiation or something. But yeah, I met Roxy earlier."
Amara gave a respectful bow. "Hello there. My friend mentioned something about a possible initiation after we got here and, when we got here, we found no one around. Think nuttin' of it." She giggled at Ioh's reaction before offering a simple two fingered, peace sign salute. "I'm Amara by the way, Miss. Kinda tailed this guy after he mentioned a local group of felines."

This observation isn’t reserved for just this retailer, as there are others culpable also, but…
There’s a great big sign over the door that says “GREGGS”; there’s a smaller one sticking out of the wall that says “GREGGS”; there are posters in the windows that mention “GREGGS”; sometimes there may even be a pavement board that says “GREGGS”. In short, I think, most people should have twigged already that this is, indeed, “GREGGS”.
So why do we also need a bloody bid surfboard flag saying “GREGGS”? Especially one that seems to spend most of its time only truly legible from the inside of the shop, where only the terminally befuddled could fail to notice, from the mouth-watering array of sweets and savouries before them, that this is… “GREGGS”?

Generally I am not a huge fan of small dogs. I have never considered owning one myself, as one of my top criteria would be the ability of a dog to run miles and miles with me. And hike, carrying his/her own water (gotta love those doggy backpacks). One that I don't have to bend all the way down to the ground to pet. One I can pillow my head against. A dog-shaped dog.
However, the more years I work as a vet the more I discover that there are a lot of great small dogs out there. I've become especially fond of Boston Terriers (and also Pugs, but they always seem to snort a lot more) and would even entertain the idea of one day having one (or a cross, as I'm big on adopting from shelters).
Chihuahuas are a mixed bag, though. In a recent study they were found most likely to bite veterinarians (I've been bitten four times now, and twice a Chihuahua was culpable), but I've known some really, really sweet members of the breed as well.
This Chihuahua is owned by a coworker of mine, and she's very sweet and meek - almost too meek, as every time the camera was pointed her way, her ears went back and she wriggled and wagged as though in apology. This image of her, though, I like.

Until began with a question Cave asked himself: Is there racism in heaven? Instead of providing a direct answer, Cave offers us an experience. Across this space, visitors traverse a sculptural forest of metallic lawn ornaments --punctuated by images of guns, bullets, and targets, positioning us all as culpable, vulnerable, and potentially under attack --before arriving at a crystal cloud topped by a garden of found ceramic birds, metal flowers, and black-face lawn jockeys. By removing the lawn jockeys (cast-iron figurines and racist remnants) from circulation, Cave transforms them into agents for change, placing beaded nets in their hands as dream catchers. Our journey through Until continues to a cliff wall constructed of millions of woven plastic beads, an immersive video, and a metaphoric cleansing in a Mylar waterfall.
Until is also a site for performances and community engagement, with the immersive installation becoming a stage for testimonials, music, dance, poetry, and discussion. In the end, Cave takes off the protective mask his Soundsuits. Once provided, offering an environment to discuss important issues in a space that is at Once Seductive, provocative, and -- ultimately -- optimistic.
