Designer and Design Academy Alumnus Tom Loois believes in the importance of human interaction and in designing connections between people, objects and spaces. The closer he can bring people together the better, though not necessarily in a physical way. He achieves this by looking for common denominators that we have forgotten, overlooked or turned into a taboo. Loois employs vulnerability, candour and wonder to turn stereotypes and worn-down patterns back into a dynamic whole where everyone can move around freely. Following his contribution last year as initiator and curator of For Play, a MU exhibition on sex and design, he is now co-curating the Embassy of Intimacy together with MU’s Angelique Spaninks, a show that is part of the first World Design Event (WDE). It promises to be an evening full of intimacies, but surely not just for intimate friends.

I am very proud to have facilitated the University of Rochester Simon Graduate School of Business Executive MBA Program.
In the 2 days together we covered;
- 4 Conditions for Improved Team Work;
- Self vs Other Directed Behavior;
- 10 Team Dynamics All Great Teams Share;
- Trust Happens on Purpose in Teams;
- Goals Established for Teams 2 x 2 Matrix;
- Decision Making Methods for Teams;
- 6 Must Haves for Running a Team Meeting;
- Action Planning for Short Term Projects;
- Pitfalls of Email and How to Avoid Them;
- What to do When You Are Not Getting Cooperation;
- Avoid Needless Worry About Team Problems;
- How to Deal With Difficult Team Members
and had a great deal of fun .

Teens throughout Madison had the opportunity to participate in hands-on media workshops including video game design, stop motion animation, and book trailers. Programs were conducted in libraries, schools, detention centers and other partner organizations throughout 2014.

Our Maker Art class created a Time Machine this year, inviting you to travel through time from the age of dinosaurs to the 50th century.
Our 4th and 5th graders at the Lycée Français designed their own scenes from the past, present or future, and brought them to life with motion, lights and sounds. They also worked in teams to build interactive features like illuminated keypads, spinners and doors, using the popular Arduino platform.
In our after-school classes, we combine art, technology and storytelling to help children create their own magical worlds. They learn to design their ideas, build them with a variety of tools, animate them with electronics and tell their stories. This unique multimedia course helps them develop their creativity, collaboration and problem-solving skills -- and builds their confidence that they can help change the world.
This year, we had a really good group of 9 students, ages 8 to 11 -- many of whom had taken our Maker Art classes before. They were very creative and engaged, and did a great job presenting their work at the Lycée Français -- and at Marinovators at the College of Marin on April 22.
This Maker Art class was taught by Fabrice Florin and Edward Janne at the Lycée Français in Sausalito in winter 2017. We met every week for 12 workshops of 90 minutes each, Thursdays at 3:30pm, from January 5 to March 30, 2017. Our teachers are part of the Tam Makers learning community and we prepared materials for this project in our state-of-the-art makerspace at the nearby Tam High School.

This was my submission, "Create..." to the 1st Annual Chain-link Fence Art Exhibition and Competition. Had a lot of fun with this, inspired by chain-link fencing of which I’ve never worked with before, tricky stuff ;) My arms got a work out.
MATERIALS: a 4 ft. x 4ft. scrap piece of chain-link fencing, a found barbeque grill (web), crystals, glass beads, found metal nuts/bolts/washers, metal wire and scrap telephone wire. I wanted people to discover the message in the spider’s web, “create” that would tie into the leading ant’s message of peace, happiness, laughter, love, opportunity, dreams, something(!). It’s good fun if we choose to create positive things for ourselves and the world :)
