Kansas students create art for Dream Rocket Project
The Associated Press
Art created by Kansas students will be among those wrapped around a 365-foot replica of the Saturn V rocket at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Ala.
A visiting assistant professor at Washburn University helped elementary students from Rossville and St. Mary create 550 pieces of artwork for the Dream Rocket Project.
A news release from the Topeka university says the Saturn V rocket will be wrapped with more than 8,000 pieces of art in 2014.
Beforehand, all submissions are being displayed in venues such as libraries, schools and museums. A show is planned at the Wamego Public Library in April.
The young artists submitting their work come from hundreds of cities across the United States and other countries. © 2012 Wichita Eagle and wire service sources. All Rights Reserved. www.kansas.com Read more here: www.kansas.com/2012/02/22/v-print/2225431/kan-students-cr...

The Creating Balance exhibition opened today at Pitfield Pop-Up in Winchester.
The project has been over a year in the making and is the celebration of a collaboration between Anglepoise, The University of Portsmouth and Strong Island a community group from Portsmouth.
The strength and breadth of talent in Portsmouth has been showcased at the exhibition.
During the last year 10 artists and designers were twinned with 10 photographers and each given an Anglepoise lamp.
Final outcomes are on display along with 10 videos all made by students Massimo Mazullo and Jonas Jakunas on the BSc TV & Broadcasting course at The University of Portsmouth.
We launched the exhibition as part of The London Design Festival back in September and were also picked to be part of the Icon Design Trail and speak at the V&A gallery in London.
Everyone involved in the project has been overwhelmed by the support and reaction to the exhibition so far. Some lamps have been customised - artist My Dog Sighs used his lamp as a palette, design studio I Love Dust illustrated theirs, Paul Gonella and Tristan Savage submerged a lamp in the solent for 4 months and Russell Squires turned his lamp into an Anglebot.
Pitfield, Winchester is the perfect place to exhibit due to their incredible curation of the space. Pitfield Pop-Up by Pitfield of London (owned by Sean Clarkson an interior designer who appears on Channel 4;s Four Rooms) is a mixture of shop, cafe and gallery.
You can view the exhibition until 7th December, open Monday to Saturday 7.30am - 5.30pm and Sunday 10am - 4pm. Pitfield Pop-Up Winchester is located in the centre of the city right by the cathedral at The Brooks, Winchester. It will then open at aspex gallery, Portsmouth on 10th January 2014 until 16th February.
Feel free to grab a copy of the brochure and postcard pack when you visit.

Hello everyone! For this Thanksgiving tutorial (if you’re in the USA), I present you with the coffee based drink menu for The Roasterie, a cozy coffee shop located in Piccadilly Circus purveying bold flavors and carefully selected pastries to its patrons.
We’ll use some of the twenty font families included in the font geek’s go-to bundle to accomplish that. We’ll explore basic visual identity building, and how to use the many symbol/dingbats typefaces included in the collection to our advantage for layout building, and more!
So, pour yourself a warm cup of Arabica, and let’s do this.

Title: Our dreams of the future.
Teacher and Organizer: Debi West
Dream Theme: Dare to dream/ Imagination
Materials & techniques used: Oil Pastel, water color, sharpie, charcoal, paint and collage
We used traditional art media, acrylic, collage, oil pastel, graphite, charcoal to tell our stories and then we laminated them to weather proof them. Several students worked collaboratively on the 2' x 2' panels, while others worked independently and then found works that mirrored their theme and put them together to create panels.
What is your art about? Our Dreams
Did you enjoy this project? Absolutely - a GREAT project and we're thrilled to be a part of it!
How can I make a difference?
In 2008, a group of educators and artists formed the International Fiber Collaborative (IFC) a non-profit organization with a mission to create deeper learning experiences through art, collaboration, and cross-curricular programming for individuals and their communities.
IFC’s current initiative, The Dream Rocket Project, started in 2009 has exhibited submissions in over 105 venues; in 2014 submissions will be connected side by side to wrap a 363’ Saturn V Moon Rocket replica at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL (48’ taller than the Statue of Liberty).
With every artwork received a student has had to ask; what is my dream for my future, and the future of my community and our world? How can students across our nation with many skills collaborate to make a difference? How can creativity and other subjects such as space, technology, science, and leadership inspire innovation? How can I make a difference?

Title: What We Love About New England Quilt #1
Teacher: Rachel Maguire
Theme: Favorites
Materials: Students in our Art Major class used a variety of techniques to create these quilts. Students challenged themselves to use techniques previously ever exposed to, such as applique, quilting, embroidery, felting, mola, collage and machine sewn elements. These squares were created with a very, very wide assortment of found textile materials. Students incorporated an assortment of silk, felt, cotton, burlap, canvas, hot glue, yarn, fake flowers, wool, string, pipe cleaners, and beads to create their scenes and illustrations of iconic New England elements.
Did you enjoy this project? OMG YES! I am so excited about these!!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait to organize a field trip to Salem to check out the exhibit!
About: Each student was tasked with creating a textile based quilt square about something unique and iconic New England using solely fabric techniques. Top left, Lighthouse. Top Right, Salem Witch Trials. Bottom left, Four Seasons. Bottom right, Boston Skyline.

Missing a few folks unfortunately, but with a design team like this, you can get a sense of what this conference was like.
I started to send this as a tag game, but decided to just post as a picture.
This is a hybrid, using the Made to Move Skateboarder head, a tan Curvy Fashionista body and a new Fashion.

Regarding email I received, and of my own experience visiting other people blog, I figure out a lot of people coming here may not really know who I am ;)
I often do not read blogs and only check pictures, then jumping from link too link... So, for those who read, here come some infos, on what I am / I have done / I am working on...
To illustrate this, here come some picture of my office, that I share with my wife in our nice France countryside home.

Title: Optical Illusions and My Nighttime Memories
Theme: Your Night Sky, Astronomy
Materials and techniques: Students used a few different materials and technical skills for this project...Materials included pencil, colored pencils, and construction paper. Students learned how to create Op Art, and express a vision in their mind on paper.
Did you enjoy this project? This project took many twists and turns, when initial concepts didn't pan out, and no one was sure how it was going to turn out. However, with a little problem solving and perseverance, we were all very excited about how they turned out!
About: For this project, students learned about Op Art – or optical art, which is abstract, and often gives the impression of movement, hidden images, flashing and vibration, patterns, or of swelling or warping. Students learned about the innovative Op Art artist Edna Andrade and studied her painting 'Night Sea', that told the story of her memory of nighttime as a little girl. Students then created their own traditional and Op Art composition by drawing and coloring a favorite memory they had that took place at night, and adding a zigzag shaped piece of colored construction paper to their compositions. When four of these individual pieces are placed together in a square, they give the illusion of one cohesive artwork telling a story and also creating an optical illusion of a starburst in the center of the composition.

We are creating an Art Float for Social Change at Tam Makers, to inspire more people to participate in democracy.
Our parade float features Mother Earth and a circle of hands, pulled by the colorful dragon Quetzy. Young activists will sing and speak about social change -- and artists will share their ideas on our spinning carousel. They want you all to vote, speak up and create a better world!
This community art project was created by over a hundred volunteers at Tam Makers, led by Fabrice Florin and Geo Monley, with the generous support of Good Earth, Mill Valley Community Action Network and Tamalpais High School.
The Art Float for Social Change will reach out to youth and people of color through art, music and technology. We will present this art show on Earth Day, Memorial Day and Fourth of July parades in Marin -- and throughout California this fall, to encourage people to vote in the next elections.
