We celebrated her birthday this week with a very special class of Lesson Six, "Udon Thani Barbecue Chicken & Papaya Salad Picnic."

From our 10th Anniversary trip to the Amalfi Coast of Italy.

We spent the day with Mamma Agata, Chiara, Salvatore and their family and staff (www.mammaagata.com) and several other class participants in an Italian Cooking Class - learning to cook and then enjoying many courses of amazing food along with many glasses of wine - in their generations-old family home on a terrace on a cliff top some 1000 feet above Amalfi and the Amalfi Coast, in the town of Ravello.

A great experience, and great fun, in a beautiful setting. Very recommended.

From their Web site: "Mamma Agata has a vast experience in traditional southern Italian cuisine. Her life experience includes cooking for both Italian Heads of State and American celebrities that frequented Ravello in the 1950's and 60's, such as Humphrey Bogart, Elizabeth Taylor, and Jacqueline Kennedy and many others. She has been a private chef for international journalists, writers and politicians"

Though Istanbul is an incredible city for its sights, sounds, and energy, sometimes you just need to step away and cook. Considering all the protest action on the streets, it was doubly attractive to spend a few hours one afternoon in an intimate cooking class with Turkish Flavours.

Istanbul, Turkey

A typical alley within a hutong. We turned right at the end, to get to Chun Yi's house.

Made with tuna, dill pickles, sliced olives, cheese cubes and eggs. Every bite was a new hit of robust flavour.
