Went looking for a nice sunrise yesterday morning but just ended up alone with my thoughts and some nice city reflections.
Despite having been served tea in bed, Sally looks stern as she contemplates the view on our awakening on our first morning on the ‘Indian Pacific’. What a view! Nullarbor Plain, WA/SA
Street was a feral cat that I adopted many years ago who eventually revealed his incredible intelligence until his death from lung cancer several years ago.
This Buzzard sat very close to the highway, hadn't even noticed it.
Luckily (s)he stayed around for a couple of seconds while I fiddled around with my camera (all settings wrong of course). This is what I salvaged from a badly overexposed pic. Distance only about 10m, so lots of detail.
Happy Buzzard Friday!
The bird is a Japanese White-Eye (メジロ, mejiro). Looks like he's considering which blossom will be his next meal. The flowers are the kawazu cherry blossoms (河津桜, kawazu-zakura). Pinker and slightly larger than the more popular yoshino cherry blossoms (染井吉野, someiyoshino).

This is in full colour with accurate colour balance and it is not desaturated. The greens and blues were so subtle in this light on this day in large part because of the heavy frost ... I am always amazed at what happens when frost and foliage mix on a grey winter's day.
I have noticed that my eye is attracted to these "in full colour" but to one degree or another 'mostly monochromatic' type of subjects ... see below for some more examples. Predictably many of them are winter photos but there are many other times of year that photo opportunities to 'do black and white in full colour' present themselves. Try them 'large with a black background' in Flickr's Lightbox if you have time ... Cheers to you all on this first day of 2013!
You might be bored of me and this place. it is just that i really want this on my stream.
have a great night.
This young lady looks like she's contemplating something. Could it be the taste of the beer, the food or something else?

"The Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium welcome six monumental works by Gao Xingjian, especially created for the room they are displayed in. In his 'awakenings of consciousness', the artist invites the wanderer to cross the image and to encounter, beyond the ink, the idea itself in its existential nudity… a space where the museums (re)devote themselves to contemplation."
