About this book: The authors include Diogenes Laertius, Isaac Casaubon, Tommaso Aldobrandini, Meric Casaubon, Marcus Meibom, Gilles Menage, Joachim Kuhn. Diogenes Laertius was a biographer of Greek philosophers from the 3rd century. Nothing is definitively known about his life (Wikipedia).
According to Encyclopedia Britannica www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/164154/Diogenes-Laertius this work “is a compilation, the excerpts of which range from insignificant gossip to valuable biographical and bibliographical information, competent summaries of doctrines, and reproductions of significant documents such as wills or philosophical writings. Though he quoted hundreds of authorities, he knew most of them only by second hand; his true sources have not been ascertained except in a few cases. The work itself consists of an introductory book and nine others presenting Greek philosophy as divided into an Ionian and an Italic branch (Books II–VII; VIII) with “successions,” or schools, within each and with “stray” philosophers appended (Books IX–X). In all extant manuscripts, the oldest of which belongs to the 12th century, part of Book VII is missing.”
The work has been split into two main divisions, the Ionian and Italian schools. Within each school are further subdivisions by philosopher. The work was first written in Greek before being translated into Latin and then English. There have been three English translations of the complete work, although they contain notable inaccuracies. This work has been criticized as being too informal and lacking necessary citations. However, it is still generally highly regarded (Wikipedia).

Jermaine Riley might not be a household name just yet but he's certainly worth keeping an eye on.
Hello Earth is Jermaine's latest release following his previous records; Goodbye Krypton (which was his debut record) and Nine Ten Eleven - The Refixes (which was composed of remakes). Both of which along with a couple of his singles are all available for free download, just like this latest one.
Mixing soulful R&B with a cool hip hop dance rhythm, Hello Earth makes for a great club album or something to hold on to if you simply need some smoothing tracks for evening company.
Former member of Brit pop and R&B group, FMD, Jermaine Riley is slowly but surely carving a name for himself in the scene as a solo artist. Showcasing his love for one of the most well-known superheroes the world over, Superman; Riley packs Hello Earth with 11 cuts that range from R&B mellow mixes to upbeat dance cuts.
Paying homage to the creators of Superman, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster; the album chronicles Superman's transition from leaving Krypton and moving to Earth. I guess, you can say it's a concept album of sorts. The songs are both catchy and easy to listen to. You'll find traces of Ne-Yo, Usher and Chris Brown as you listen.
Track like Smallville beautifully features Jermaine's vocal range. It's a sweet song that you can pop onto your player and enjoy without much fuss. A few must-listen cuts include Wonder Woman ft. Lioness; Peaceful Day ft. Cherri V and of course, title track, Hello Earth.
Jermaine Riley is an artist that you shouldn't miss out on especially if you love R&B. Unlike his previous releases which featured covers or 90s samples, Hello Earth is all about the artist. It comes with original cuts and a nice (not to mention) fresh take on the concept album. Really enjoyable piece that you should be downloading right now.

A selection of blooper footage from an old college project. The project idea was to make an advert for a song of our choice. I decided to choose a Creative Commons song which was ditched later down the line. It was then use to collate a blooper reel which you are looking at.

Proper club music compilations as opposed to mainstream cash-ins. It's weird how poorly the artwork reflects the contents. Nowadays you'd just slap a big smiley on all of them.
'Upfront 10' is a marvel. It captures the atmosphere of London clubland c. March 1988, when something was happening but hadn't gone overground or really been named yet - which is often the best moment in any scene.
Dance compilation cassettes often had extra tracks and 'megamixes' to equalize the running time of both sides. They were better value than the vinyl versions, in that regard. The 'Mad on Acid Megamix' is perhaps the best I've heard - a dizzying blast of cut-up samples and house as good as the tracks it is made out of.
My break from flickr is over. Finals are done, so I can now start taking more pictures (:
