These rocks were all collected at the Jakobsberg mine dump near Filipstad, Sweden. The dump is really just a bunch of rocks spread around the forest floor. Oh, but what rocks!!
MInerals shown include calcite, svabite, johnbaumite, dolomite, margarosanite, cymrite, barite and a bunch of others things that I cannot identify*... Lit using Short Wave Ultraviolet Light from a SuperBright II.
*Stay tuned - my son is exploring some of these rocks with a scanning electron microscope. These are pretty weird rocks!

This stunning compilation image of Jupiter’s stormy northern hemisphere was captured by NASA’s Juno spacecraft as it performed a close pass of the gas giant planet. Some bright-white clouds can be seen popping up to high altitudes on the right side of Jupiter’s disk. (The Juno team frequently refers to clouds like these as “pop-up” clouds in image captions.)
Juno took the four images used to produce this color-enhanced view on May 29, 2019, between 12:52 a.m. PDT (3:52 a.m. EDT) and 1:03 a.m. PDT (4:03 a.m. EDT), as the spacecraft performed its 20th science pass of Jupiter. At the time the images were taken, the spacecraft was between 11,600 miles (18,600 kilometers) and 5,400 miles (8,600 kilometers) above Jupiter's cloud tops, above a northern latitude spanning from about 59 to 34 degrees.

That time of year to throw up a compilation. Thanks for all your words of encouragement over 2017.
I wish you good health, happiness, and success in the coming year.
And astrophotography image compilation of some of my and @TheAstroShake's work - featured on www.photographingspace.com
Belton House is a stately house a few miles north of Grantham. It was built for Sir John Brownlow between 1685 & 1688 and has been described as a compilation of all that is finest of Carolean architecture. The house is Grade I lsted and has been in the care of the National Trust sine 1984.
Finally decided I'd give this a go and I can see why so many people do it, it's so fun and you can get some really cool results. I thought I'd make a little compilation of a few of my favourites rather than upload 20 of them hahah
The top one was reflected off a red to orange gradient printed on A4
The second one was on a rainbow gradient on A4
And the last one is an Aboriginal dot painting on A4, but you can't really tell with the crop. I thought this would be cool since I'm part Aboriginal..
Enjoy!
1x Canon 430ex II to camera left, bouced off the A4 paper behind the drops. Zoomed at 105mm and on 1/16th power from memory. Triggered with pop up flash

Built from beach huts, Jean-François Fourtou's tower doesn't look like it was strictly planned. Rather, it seems as if the cabins were sucked into the air by a great gust of wind and scattered around, then accidentally got stuck together and left behind.
It's no surprise that the beach huts caught Fourtou's attention, with their quintessential architecture and history. The booths are as old as Belgian tourism itself and were initially mainly used as a dressing room for women. Today, the dimensions and shapes are regulated per coastal municipality. Most of the cabins you will find on the Belgian coast have been incorporated into the sculpture of Fourtou. The work occupies a prominent place in the municipality, giving it the allure of a totem or an emblem of the city. Since totems originally represented the people of a community, the structure can be seen as a monument to the beach culture, a symbol of the unity of the beach culture that represents the entire coast.
_________
This is a compilation of shots (a moontage?) I took of the January 31 lunar eclipse. With some inspiration from others here on Flickr, I decided to order them in the approximate trajectory I witnessed through the sky.
I really lucked out on this one - Missoula is often cloudy in the winter and I wasn't expecting to see this. There were occasional clouds that blew through, but otherwise I was able to see the whole thing. I wish I would have gotten a picture of the moon before the eclipse started - I was awake, just didn't think to take it.
Looking back to the 2017 dragonfly season, rather than having all my precious images stored on a hard drive and not doing much with them, I set about creating a compilation of some of my favoured images and had this printed for my own personal use.
BEST VIEWED ENLARGRED
This is a compilation of 414 individual shots taken over 2 hours 18 minutes. The RAW images were combined in Photoshop. It was a challenging shot with the light pollution, huge file sizes and multiple airplanes/boats crossing the field of view.
The North tower is the one on the right and San Francisco would be to the left of this image.

“Sometimes since I've been in the garden I've looked up through the trees at the sky and I have had a strange feeling of being happy as if something was pushing and drawing in my chest and making me breathe fast. Magic is always pushing and drawing and making things out of nothing. Everything is made out of magic, leaves and trees, flowers and birds, badgers and foxes and squirrels and people. So it must be all around us. In this garden - in all the places.”
― Frances Hodgson Burnett, The Secret Garden
In solitude I find the strength
to meet each day with joy
walking in the depth of nature
praying for each girl and boy
In prayer I ask not for myself
but for the Hand of God
to wipe away the flow of tears
to let no-one ever be forgot
In nature I absorb the lessons
it teaches to my soul and start
to let the sounds of birdsong echo
in step within my beating heart
Since I was a little girl
I learned by heart the words of God
and those that reached to me in darkness
brought forth the light that stifled every waking sob
Now I have found my voice in song
in poetry and art
and share with you my thoughts and fears
the inner workings of my loving heart
I pray for all the World; give hope
and praise those selfless souls
who give their lives as Jesus did
to save us with their actions bold
Now is not the time for separateness
now is the time one heart, one mind
one soul; creates a better world
for me, for you and all mankind

Dedicated to all peoples of the World. Never before have we been so united in our endeavour to eradicate an indiscriminate, invisible common enemy. May our egos and petty grievances be cast aside. May we be one Family. In the eyes of God we are all one. He makes no distinctions, good or bad. He forgives us for our human frailties. For those who do not believe in God, please open your minds to this thought. God may be invisible to you, but so is this disease, yet you know it is there, so why not God too … God loves us all whether or not you believe in Him, that is your choice and He gave to us free will. I believe because I have been and seen living proof, many times throughout my life, since I was seven years old. My life has been difficult and fraught with loss and illnesses and yes, hatred has been directed at me for being different; for speaking out. I have known what it is to be truly alone in childhood and growing up; to not being believed or listened to or loved, but I was born a fighter with an indomitable spirit and that doesn't mean being violent or hard. There is strength in being gentle; in being gently spoken. There is strength in love and there is strength in Faith. Even during this global pandemic I have been bullied on here for my words and had people try to alter other's opinions of me, but it does not matter. I am not important. I let my ego go a long time ago. I choose love. I spent two years of my life in silence; not speaking; not smiling. I found my voice again, but I also found you do not need to speak to make yourself heard ...
Please take good care of yourselves and of each other. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Yesterday I learned a good friend of mine has Covid-19. He reached out to me to reassure me. He is a beautiful person. A beautiful soul. If the only thing we do today is say one word or perform one act, may it be a kind word spoken in love; may it be a selfless act of kindness xxxxx
I hope you enjoy my video. The song, I recorded recently while I was not well, and the video is a compilation of clips I filmed within my beautiful gardens. I hope it brings some solace in these difficult times. I hug you all and pray for everyone to remain safe and healthy and for those of you who may already be sick, I pray for your complete recovery <3
So how did I come to have such Faith in God and Humanity, with the life I've had … I have few memories of my parents. I don't recall my Mum ever mentioning God, but my Dad did, so maybe that was the seed that began to grow in me …
All I know is that if you find yourself in a sea of tears that is growing deeper by the day, and below you, your feet are paddling wildly beneath the water, like a Swan (think how serene the Swan appears to be on the surface), trying to keep your head above; trying to keep yourself afloat; trying to stop yourself from drowning. The ocean is choppy and growing ever deeper and your feet cannot touch the bottom, while overhead the storms are raging all around you and lightning is shooting randomly from the sky. Every strike feels like you are dodging a stray bullet from some unknown enemy. You feel yourself growing tired; exhausted from the constant fight, but then someone throws you a lifeline and you cling to that small float like your life depended on it, because it literally does and then a small crack appears in the sky and a little sunlight filters through; the clouds begin to part; the sea begins to gently still and you feel yourself transported towards the shore; your feet find firmer ground and suddenly, you are walking along the beach and that small seed that lay dormant deep down in your heart and soul, begins to grow until one day, it becomes the tallest tree; the highest mountain. You thought you could never come this far; you thought that you could not climb this high. That one small seed planted so long ago can be
summed up in a single word … HOPE and to me FAITH and HOPE walk hand in hand; side by side. If I can do this, so can you, for I am nothing; I am no-one special. God bless <3

Early in the morning of Saturday August 13th, the Perseïds were around its maximum peak. After Half past one the Moon had set and darkness covered the land. During three hours these meteors were captured, together with the brightest fireball I ever witnessed so far.
Seventeen meteors that probably belong tot the Perseïds and three other of which origin is uncertain.
This image is a vertical panorama from three frames. The landscape is shot with the light of the Moon.
Look also at the time lapse I made of the bright bolide
Because this is more photogenic than just one pic. Also, the part is in a bit of an odd spot, so I figured I'd need to do something like this to give the judges a better view of the Vanguard and it's part use.
This is an 80s compilation that I bought new back in the day.
I had loved disco as a child, but that was before my adolescent record purchasing. So I had to discover disco all over again.
I'd been buying contemporary, post-disco dance music for years, but then came the "Hi-NRG" sound of the late 80s. (Stock, Aitken + Waterman) Plenty of those songs were covers of classic disco. Enough time had passed that people were willing to revisit it.
So that got me into scouring the world for old disco records. Which I found. Quite a few. I have many Donna Summer records, but the above really is quite a fabulous collection.
Now of course, we might all remember that Ms. Summer has had her 'issues' with the gay community, from icon to pariah to distant friend. She cool now, but it'll never be the same as it were.
At the time I bought this I remember it being a moral question - to buy or not to buy a Donna Summer record? I remember gay men preaching to me in my youth that I should never give my money to her. It was deemed okay to buy OLD records because the money didn't go to her. I bought this one at a used records store but it was basically new.
Let's just say her greatest performance as "Legend" will always be a sad disappointment. She really turned her back on her fans not just when they were down, but when they were DYING.
She recanted of course. Can't quite remember an apology. I have her book (she signed it for me in 2002 or 2003.) Haven't read it. Maybe I'll find an apology there. ???
She got the "Diva" thing down pat, though.
Forgive and move the fuck on, right?
A slideshow (from Youtube) of some of my photographs from 2016. I hope you who watch it enjoy the photos almost as much as I enjoyed capturing them. I thank each of you, my Flickr friends for your continued visits, comments and faves, and wish everyone a peaceful, healthy and fruitful 2017.

Compilation of Refuge Sun image with Kalil Tree image....plus the universe in full color. Not exactly as photographed, but as imagined.
I went out hunting for the Perseid Meteors this season and learned again how camera shy these guys can be! You’d see flashes and trails very frequently and usually where your camera was not pointed or when it was not acquiring! This compilation was looking off of the main origination spot in the sky, but managed over 2+ hours to capture more than my other configuration. While they mostly emanate from one location, the specifics of their trajectories can result in some going more across my frame (or even upwards). I processed the Milky Way separately to use as a backdrop and Photoshopped the meteorites where they appeared in frame. The fainter meteorites hint at the limitations of my glass and my sensor—there was no doubt more to see. Still, by far my best meteor shower! Cheers! Made from 5 light frames (captured with a Canon camera) by Starry Landscape Stacker 1.6.2. Algorithm: Median
