First time trying some self portraits. It's fun working with setting up lighting etc. I wish I had better equipment though. Oh well, limitation causes creativity I always say.
You know I'm sure I sat there throughout this shoot, and said significantly less than I normally do. I'm sure she has half peaceful, half bored. I was mesmerised. So at ease with herself, so natural, no expressions of lies, no poses, just pure and unadulterated 'her' for better or for worse, it really didn't matter. I think looking back after taking these photos, if I manage to instill as big a sense of honesty about the photographs I take from now on, as Caitlin showed me when we shot together, I'll be a happy boy.

The music in this set is great, but what stands out to me is the design by Alex Steinweiss. I had never heard of him until this illustration caught my eye in a Nebraska thrift store. It turns out that Steinweiss (along with Jim Flora and David Stone Martin) was one of the pioneers in conceptual music packaging. This example features a large black right hand paired with a white left hand. Not just alluding to the racial integration of the music, but putting it front and center, was radical for the time.
