A project from 2006, at EGM's.
This project got published several times in Holland (de Architect October 2007, "A Tradition of Change" Staro Nai publishers January 2009), due to it being the built form of a new educational approach making it a somewhat experimental school building. Experiential learning, or 'learning by doing', are the central teaching methods. The central study and work spaces show most clearly this philosophy. These areas form the core of the four storey building.
Colour is used to represent each professional field: red represents expression, blue stands for maths, physics and chemistry, orange for languages and green for 'Man & Society " (geography, history).
The domains are arranged as an open space surrounded by instructional and class rooms that are partly open, partly closed off, and staff rooms. In the class rooms complex topics are explained and tests conducted. Other tasks can optionally be done in the open spaces or in the main workspace provided.
For small groups a "work unit" was designed, emphasized by a striped carpet. Perpendicular to this element long wooden work benches provide individual as well as group study possibilities.
The budget was tight so the spacial solutions as well as the choice of materials had to be economical and also done inventively to prevent the school from becoming bland and uninspiring.
A lot of industrial materials were used, but only so to make an unusual use of them, for example the ceilings were done by using reinforcement steel grids, used normally to strengthen concrete. Acoustics were dealt with by means of a special plaster on the ceilings, partly made of shredded recycled paper. Light fixtures are held into position with tie-wraps. Walls are made up of underlayment board and oriented strand board, floors are coated with concrete paint. The building's facades are made of stucco, Hardi plank (a very cheap cement board with a dark brown coating), and blue coated, moulded polyester panels, hiding the multi coloured sunscreen rolls. The furniture design was partly done by Hollandse Nieuwe, a dutch design firm.
Although succesful in many ways the school is currently suffering from a lack of space for housing the ever rising number of new pupils each year...

**View it big or I'll send the boys round!**
One thing that's always struck me about Caitlin as I've got to know her a little over the last few months is that her slightly 'alternative' and dare I say 'hippy-esque' dress sense is a bit of a breath of fresh air. She's completely comfortable in this, which is I think rare. It's genuine, she dresses like she does because it's who she is I think, instead of some fake fashion following 'I'm a hippy this week' fad. I dig it, I dig it a lot.
When the idea first came to me to shoot her, it was with her embedded in a mass of flowers, what with her being a florist and all. Seeing as I'm skint, that idea went out the window, so it was a sense of back to nature I tried to achieve. So one Saturday recently, I sat there and took her photograph as she kicked off her jandals and made daisy chains. Man, inside, I was smiling so much. :-)
This Prayer Book, ca. 1500, is a compilation of several texts from at least five different hands, with the miniatures featuring several hands as well. The illusionistic borders with exceptional motifs are of particular note. Borders towards the beginning of the book appear to be by a different artist, as later groups of borders differ in both design and color, with smaller motifs, less crowding, blossoming red carnations and lilies, and some amusing drolleries (fol. 57r-v).

a special compilation of the various kario gifts I have found so far in sl. Sadly none at shop&hop this time, maybe next.
If curious about anything used ask in the comments here or the blog. I hope you find this useful.
the original TIFF file of the artwork looks alot better than the uploaded JPEG version! I'm going to try printing the disc label onto transparent self-adhesive film to overlay on a TDK "Ho" type disc.
my chosen tracklist on the 80 minute MiniDisc is as below, I cut the DJ & alien dialogue from the beginning of "Calling Occupants" in order to shorten the overall running time to allow a 22nd track to fit on.

365 Project: Day 8
I’m starting a new thing today called Thanksgiving Thursday. There are so many times during a week to reflect on being thankful for the things in our lives. I don’t think I’ll EVER run out of things to share on Thursdays. I hope you enjoy reading as much as I look forward to sharing along these lines each week.
I can’t let the Christmas season come and go and not talk about my dad. (My dad died tragically in the summer of 2006 at age 50 by suicide.) He was one of the most thoughtful gift-givers I know. He didn’t have much money, and still, my dad gave some of THE most special and memorable gifts—because they all came from his heart.
My dad was a lot of things. To name just a few, he was a gifted writer and poet, an amazing drummer, and a skilled guitarist. So much of my love and appreciation of music of all eras and genres came from the 32 years I spent on this earth with my dad.
My sisters, brother, and I grew up with watching and listening to Dad regularly blast music in the basement and bang on his drums down there. Oftentimes to work off some stress, but not always. He was just so good at drumming, and he loved it. He even got the privilege of taking over on the drums for the band that played at mine and Jon’s wedding reception in 1995. What a memory for all of us who were there that day. I can still see him twirling those drumsticks. He never missed a beat.
In a more quiet and peaceful moment, he’d pull out the acoustic guitar, play something, and sing something for us. I remember the Christmas I was pregnant with one of the girls, he got out his guitar and played and sang for the family. That was a gift in its own right.
For many Christmases, Dad would hand-pick songs that he either knew us kids already liked, or songs that he thought we would like, if we’ve never heard them. And then he’d make us each our own personalized compilations, putting them on tapes… and then when CDs came out, he’d of course change with the times.
This photo is the last Christmas gift I ever received from my dad. It was Christmas of 2005, and he was only with us for 8 more months after he gave it to me. It has 20 songs on it that he knew I grew up loving, like: Puff the Magic Dragon by Peter, Paul, and Mary (I sang this song with him in 1979 when I was 5, and I still have the recording of it. ); The Letter by The Box Tops; Blinded by the Light by Manfred Mann; Last Dance by Donna Summer; Peace Train by Cat Stevens; Time by Alan Parsons Project; Be-Bop-A-Lula by Gene Vincent… and many more.
I am so thankful today that he shared his love of music with us kids, and instilled in me a love and appreciation for it from the time I was born. Music is a gift that keeps on giving… and one that is never far from me. It has the power to reach in and grab us by the heart and move us in ways that nothing else can.
Thank you, Dad, for your many thoughtful gifts. I love you and miss you very much. Phil. 1:3 ~ I thank God for you whenever I think of you.

Belton House is a Grade I listed country house in Belton near Grantham, Lincolnshire, England. The mansion is surrounded by formal gardens and a series of avenues leading to follies within a larger wooded park. Belton has been described as a compilation of all that is finest of Carolean architecture, the only truly vernacular style of architecture that England had produced since the Tudor period. The house has also been described as the most complete example of a typical English country house; the claim has even been made that Belton's principal facade was the inspiration for the modern British motorway signs which give directions to stately homes. Only Brympton d'Evercy has been similarly lauded as the perfect English country house. For three hundred years, Belton House was the seat of the Brownlow and Cust family, who had first acquired land in the area in the late 16th century. Between 1685 and 1688 Sir John Brownlow and his wife had the present mansion built. Despite great wealth they chose to build a modest country house rather than a grand contemporary Baroque palace. The contemporary, if provincial, Carolean style was the selected choice of design. However, the new house was fitted with the latest innovations such as sash windows for the principal rooms, and more importantly completely separate areas for the staff. As the Brownlows rose from baronets to barons upward to earls and then once again became barons, successive generations made changes to the interior of the house which reflected their changing social position and tastes, yet the fabric and design of the house changed little. Following World War I (a period when the Machine Gun Corps was based in the park), the Brownlows, like many of their peers, were faced with mounting financial problems. In 1984 they gave the house away—complete with most of its contents. The recipients of their gift, the National Trust, today fully open Belton to the public. It is in a good state of repair and visited by many thousands of tourists each year The Brownlow family, a dynasty of lawyers, began accumulating land in the Belton area from approximately 1598. In 1609 they acquired the reversion of the manor of Belton itself from the Pakenham family, who finally sold the manor house to Sir John Brownlow I in 1619. The old house was situated near the church in the garden of the present house and remained largely unoccupied, since the family preferred their other houses elsewhere. John Brownlow had married an heiress but was childless. He became attached to two of his more distant blood relations: a great-nephew, also called John Brownlow, and a great-niece, Alice Sherard. The two cousins married each other in 1676 when both were aged 16; three years later, the couple inherited the Brownlow estates from their great-uncle together with an income of £9,000 per annum (about £ 1.17 million in present day terms) and £20,000 in cash (equivalent to about £ 2.59 million now). They immediately bought a town house in the newly fashionable Southampton Square in Bloomsbury, and decided to build a new country house at Belton. Work on the new house began in 1685. The architect thought to have been responsible for the initial design is William Winde, although the house has also been attributed to Sir Christopher Wren, while others believe the design to be so similar to Roger Pratt's Clarendon House, London, that it could have been the work of any talented draughtsman. The assumption popular today, that Winde was the architect, is based on the stylistic similarity between Belton and Coombe Abbey, which was remodelled by Winde between 1682 and 1685. Further evidence is a letter dated 1690, in which Winde recommends a plasterer who worked at Belton to another of his patrons. Whoever the architect, Belton follows closely the design of Clarendon House, completed in 1667. This great London town house (demolished circa 1683) has been one of the most admired buildings of its era due to "its elegant symmetry and confident and common-sensical design". Sir John Summerson described Clarendon House as "the most influential house of its time among those who aimed at the grand manner" and Belton as "much the finest surviving example of its class". John and Alice Brownlow assembled one of the finest teams of craftsmen available at the time to work on the project. This dream team was headed by the master mason William Stanton who oversaw the project. His second in command, John Thompson, had worked with Sir Christopher Wren on several of the latter's London churches, while the chief joiner John Sturges had worked at Chatsworth under William Talman. The wrought-ironworker John Warren worked under Stanton at Denham Place, Buckinghamshire, and the fine wrought iron gates and overthrow at Belton may be his. Thus so competent were the builders of Belton that Winde may have done little more than provide the original plans and drawings, leaving the interpretation to the on-site craftsmen. This theory is further demonstrated by the external appearance of the adjoining stable block. More provincial, and less masterful in proportion, it is known to have been entirely the work of Stanton.

After much time in the darkroom--printing is much more time consuming than I ever remember--it was finally time to compile the album. Colour images by Printique, who I think did a very respectable job with the digital files I sent them.
Panoramic compilation - before the first race, and before the last race on the final day of racing at Betfair Hollywood Park racetrack in Inglewood, California, U.S.A. (Dec. 22, 2013)
