Nottingham Omnibus, an offshoot of the eponymous Sheffield Omnibus were briefly a thorn in the side of Nottingham City Transport in the mid-nineties. One of the target routes was NCT's 89 service to Rise Park. This was a profitable route via Mansfield Road and Bestwood Park. Eventually, NCT bought out Nottingham Omnibus to kill off the competition.
The Nottingham Omnibus fleet was made up with a selection of second-hand buses. It was interesting to compare the ex-Tayside 33' Alexander-bodied VRTs with the standard 30' Alexander-bodied VRTs from Northampton.

Clown lineup to perform for the judges at the clown competion at Imperial Session 2012 in Charlotte, NC
The North Wales coastline four or five miles either side of Rhyl became the unlikely scene of bus operator competition for a brief period in the mid 1990's. What made the situation more unusual was the vehicles chosen for it by the challenger, KD Coaches, they were ex London Transport AEC Routemasters... though via other operators. Here LDS 341A negotiates the clock tower roundabout on Rhyl promenade after a heavy downpour. At the time of my visit, the elderly RMs appeared well presented, but one could only wonder just how long it could be sustained for.

Taken less than five minutes after the previous photograph Reading Buses 'Jet Red' branded Scania N230UB Omnicity YN56FBG (2) is also seen here on Park Avenue Thatcham and will follow the exact same route to Newbury as the bus in previous photograph.
Reading Buses have recently rebranded Kennections routes 101/102 (Newbury-Thatcham via Northern or Southern Thatcham estates) as 'Jet Red' to sit alongside their Jet Black Reading-Thatcham-Newbury route. Combined the routes offer a bus between Newbury and Thatcham every 15 minutes - all via slightly different routes but the journey times are comparable.
