Sunray Travel MEM8 (RX53 LNH) pulls away from the Woodfield Lane stop on a 479 to Epsom, seen from a decker on Buses Excetera's competing route 489.
The shot came out quite well, considering the bus I was on was going over a speed bump at the time! This bit of the 479/489 has a bit of a reputation for the number of speedbumps it has to go over.
I'm sure I've read somewhere how many it is. I was trying to count, but lost count after taking this photo and gave up after I smashed my head into the grab rail going over a particularly severe bump!
A couple of passengers boarded in Ashtead and got chatting to the driver.
Unsurprisingly, conversation turned to 489 vs 479 - sparked by a late running 479 which had been seen earlier on! They thought the 489 was a much better service, and the Excetera driver mentioned the whole Sunray 479 buses being taken off the road thing. Apparently, he was behind one of the affected workings.
He also mentioned Excetera don't break down very much.
Through Ashtead, one passenger opted to let the 489 pass, but everybody else was happy to board the 489, despite the double-double run giving it a time disadvantage compared to the 479.
