Known issues:

Before I list them down, let me explain what happened. I'm currently moving apartments and it's been a really difficult process as it's been 2 months since I started looking and I STILL haven't signed a contract even though I need to move out on the 31st of Jan. That has put a lot of stress on my back as I had to spend a lot of time looking for condos, contacting and visiting them, taking away from my work time. The stress and anxiety alone also impacted my workflow, causing me to take too long to finish it, commit constant mistakes and not be able to fully test the outfit before releasing it.

I'm currently fixing the issues one by one while still dealing with RL, so please be a little patient with me and sorry for this huge inconvenience.

I have bought myself a new camera body (Canon R7) to fit by 70-300 lens. So today went to Arne RSPB reserve for a lesson. The lens is not totally compatible so had to buy a connecting ring as well, so far it seems there is only 1 feature lacking & that is a compatibility issue.

Lumix S1R and S1 introduce a new HDR Still Photo file format (.HSP) specified by ITU-R BT.2100 (CTA-2072 HDR Still Photo Interface). The new format will provide 10bit images encoded with the Rec.2020 color space and Hybrid Log Gamma (Rec.2100). The compression is based on HEVC (H.265) Main10 Still Picture profile, which means file sizes will be almost cut in half compared to JPEG. The HSP files from S1R and S1 will either have 4K or up to 8K resolution for compatibility reasons with future HDR-TVs.

Because there is not yet a software available to support decoding/playback/editing of the HSP files, in order to showcase this I recorded frames off the HDMI with Atomos Shogun Inferno (3240x2160 in 3:2 aspect) to ProRes. I then exported the HLG/Rec.2100 encoded frames into OpenEXR file format, which will open in Photoshop CC. The images are then gamma corrected and assigned the proper Rec.2020 gamut. OpenEXR files record no embedded ICC metadata which means Ps needs to know which gamut the file was encoded with to show proper primary colors.

In order to demo the real difference between HDR and SDR, I decided to adjust the gamma and peak brightness of the corresponding SDR-version of this image (flic.kr/p/2fugDQr) to around 50-60% of the HDR image. To properly demonstrate the impact of HDR gamma, a monitor capable of displaying a minimum of 500nits is required with brightness set to maximum (iPhone Xs, XR, MBP 2016 and newer, iMac 5K etc.). The SDR version will then show roughly the equivalent peak brightness of a normal SDR image for direct comparison side by side with the HDR version that will peak the brightness of the screen in the white sun area.

The S1R and S1 can also shoot HSP/RAW/JPG simultaneously. What makes 'HLG Photo' really interesting from a photographer's perspective is the way that the camera handles and evaluate exposures, use of native ISO etc. HDR capable Wide Gamut monitors are becoming more and more affordable and available for computers. I look forward to working with HLG Photos in the future. I already adopted HLG-video for all my family videos ever since the GH5 got the HLG firmware update released in 2017. I think this new image format is very exciting news for all of us into nature and landscape photography. It's about time!

Please note: The color space of these two images was converted to sRGB for compatibility with all monitors. The full Rec.2020 image from the camera will show more vibrant colors on a proper HLG capable monitor or TV.

Het Bouwhuis (translated The Building House) is a collective project for a large number of organizations in the building branch and construction industry. The design requirements have been directly translated into the three parts of the building: a parking garage as a plinth, eleven office floors in a T-shaped volume on top and, finally, a large 'roof plate' with collective public and meeting facilities. By locating the representative and collective facilities not on the ground floor but on the top layers, a panoramic view of the city, the motorway and the Groene Hart behind it is possible from these spaces. A robust steel construction provides stability and allows a "column-free" cantilever of the top layers. In the building, much attention has been paid to sustainability, partly due to the double glass skin and heat / cold storage in the soil.

Characteristic for the design is the double skin facade. This resulted in many transparent facades. The double skin principal is realized by applying only hardened glass at a distance of about 1 meter from the thermal facade of the building. This creates an enlarged and isolated cavity. At the second floor, this cavity is opened over the entire length. On the eleventh floor, a gap of 200 mm has been created over the entire length of the facade. Exterior sun protection has been installed in the cavity of the double skin facade.

Technical stuff

This is a daytime long exposure photo taken at 100ISO, f22 (just to prolong the exposure time), 12 secs and with 12.6 mils on the camera. I used a 10 stop ND filter. Due to the bright light I still could go beyond 12 secs. I haven’t found a good quality 16 stop ND filter for 72mm yet. Plus had no stacking compatibility at that time – although I now also have 6 stop 72mm filter.

Post-production was executed solely with Lightroom CC. I used several (inverted) radial filters, adjustment brushes and graduated filters. The latter addresses primarily the toning of the sky and clouds. Finally, I added some copyright signs (in PS, as it is still not possible to position a watermark anywhere you want like in PS – by simply adding text). The latter is, alas, there to stay due to the fact that my photos were frequently copied. So, don't bother commenting on that.

This is my very first 'Moc'. The idea was to create a building inspired in the Haussmann style present in most of central Paris, without any piece count limit that would keep the modular compatibility and the minifig scale. Amid the backdrop of hardline Republican immigration policies and a growing wave of xenophobia, a quiet plan begins to take shape: the gradual collapse of America from within.

During a speech at Madison Square Garden, Republican presidential candidate Justin Bradford is shot. Almost simultaneously in Los Angeles, former president Owen Reed is attacked at a rally for Democratic hopeful Ryan Bennett.

Two assassinations—mirroring one another—ignite a nation’s deepest divide. Yet, against all odds, Justin survives. His blood type is one in 2.5 million: the Bombay Blood Group.

The only person who can donate such blood is Anaya Patel, a community art facilitator working in Brooklyn. Her blood, stored in the Bellevue Hospital Blood Bank, is used for an emergency transfusion that saves the candidate’s life.

Jack Vance, an agent of the U.S. Secret Service, suspects a Gaza-based network behind the attacks. Together with Cameron Bartlett, the FBI Director of the Los Angeles Field Office, and Veronica Reeves, a senior investigator from New York, he begins to uncover a vast conspiracy.

Their investigation leads them to Rafi Gannam, a former architecture student at the Islamic University of Gaza, who has infiltrated redevelopment sites across Los Angeles and New York—embedding C4 explosives deep within beams and structural cores.

His targets: new residential districts where agents of ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) and ERO (Enforcement and Removal Operations) live—symbols of “the order America built.”

Veronica urges the President to pursue dialogue to prevent further destruction, but President Grant M. Ranford refuses to listen.

Meanwhile, the recovering Justin and his Democratic rival Ryan appear on national television, calling for unity beyond political divisions.

Their words of reason, however, are drowned out when Grant takes the stage in Iowa, defiantly declaring: “We will never bow to terror.”

Among the crowd, Rafi’s operatives have already taken their positions.

As chaos erupts and the stage collapses, Amir Nasser—once Rafi’s comrade, haunted by the memory of his sister’s death in Gaza—tries desperately to halt the chain of destruction.

But Rafi’s conviction remains unshaken.

This test procedure is a check of the satellite’s ‘electromagnetic compatibility’, with all its systems running together to detect any harmful interference between them.

Once Maxwell's main door is sealed, its metal walls form a ‘Faraday Cage’, screening out external electromagnetic signals. The ‘anechoic’ foam pyramids covering its interior absorb internal signals – as well as sound – to prevent any reflection, mimicking the infinite void of space for satellite testing.

Seen here sheathed in multi-layer insulation, the 2.5m by 1.2 m by 1.1 m satellite’s main 1.4-m diameter antenna transmits L-band navigation signals down to Earth. To its left is the hexagonal search and rescue antenna that picks up distress signals and relays them to local emergency services, contributing to the saving of more than 2000 lives annually.

To the bottom right of the navigation antenna are a pair of infrared ‘Earth sensors’ whose task is to keep the navigation permanently locked onto Earth by homing in on the contrast between the heat of Earth’s atmosphere and the cold of deep space. Above them is the laser retro-reflector: lasers are shone up to this from the stations of the International Laser Ranging Service to perform an independent check of the satellite’s orbital position down to an accuracy of less than a centimetre, as a backup of standard radio ranging.

Above that is the circular C-band antenna which every 45 minutes or so receives the navigation messages from the Galileo ground segment. These signals incorporate corrections for slight clock errors, orbital drift or satellite malfunctions that user receivers can process as they perform positioning fixes, helping ensure Galileo remains the world’s most accurate satellite navigation system, delivering metre-scale positioning to users around the globe.

What resembles a white baton on the end of the satellite is its S-band antenna, employed to return ‘housekeeping’ telemetry data to mission control on Earth and pick up telecommands in turn to operate the satellite platform and payload – as well as performing the ranging used to estimate the satellite’s position in space.

The Maxwell EMC Facility is part of the ESTEC Test Centre in ESA’s technical heart in Noordwijk, the Netherlands – Europe’s largest satellite testing facility, which has flight-tested all but two of the 28 Galileo satellites already in orbit, and is currently doing the same for the next 10 satellites planned to join the constellation.
