My belated contribution to the J-Tac AR replacement competition.
Couldn't think of a full custom design I liked so went to a favourite for some ref pictures and ended up with this. Heavily based on the FNC, but updated with AR grip and rail system compatibility, and ambidextrous controls and ejection (via a screw in charging handle and cover plate, the stock being able to be quickly alternated to fold to the right hand side to keep the left ejection clear).

Jednotka bola dopravená za účelom testov kompatibility so sieťou ŽSR a systému ETCS. Hneď vo štvrtok 26. 5. 2023 vykonala prvú skúšobnú jazdu na trase Bratislava hl. st. - Dubnica nad Váhom a späť ako vlaky dopravcu Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko Sv 350001 respektíve Sv 35000. Tri tieto jednoky si v roku 2016 objednal u čínskeho výrobcu CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive český súkromný dopravca Leo Express. Na tridsať kusov mal dopravca opciu. Prvá jednotka bola do Českej republiky dopravená v októbri 2019. Jednotka sa objavila na skúšobnom okruhu VÚZ Velim. Proces schvaľovania vozidla však nabral obrovské meškanie spôsobené svetovou pandémiou COVID-19, kedy čínsky technici nemohli pôsobiť v Českej republike. V septembri 2021 majetkovo do českého dopravcu vstúpili španielske štátne železnice Renfe a výrobca vlakov CAF a v apríli roku 2022 prišla informácia, že Leo Express vypovedal čínskemu výrobcovi zmluvu na nákup jednotiek. Zatiaľ dve dodané jednotky však aj naďalej zostali na skúšobnom okruhu a proces ich schválenia do prevádzky pokračuje aj naďalej. V novembri 2022 sa českými médiami prehnala informácia, že v súvislosti s meškajúcimi dodávkami rušňov Alstom Traxx3 MS sa český dopravca RegioJet rozhodol jednať o vývoji nového interoperabilného európskeho rušňa práve s týmto čínskym výrobcom a že práve RegioJet by mal CRRC pomôcť so schválením Siriusov na európskom trhu. To sa tento týždeň potvrdilo a už v lete by malo dôjsť k týmto testom aj s cestujúcimi.
EN: On the night of Tuesday to Wednesday 24 May 2023, the electric unit 665.002 of the Chinese manufacturer CRRC, known as Sirius, was delivered to Bratislava. The unit was transported for the purpose of compatibility tests with the ŽSR network and the ETCS system. Immediately on Thursday 26 May 2023 it performed the first test run on the route Bratislava hl. st. - Dubnica nad Váhom and back as trains of the carrier Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko Sv 350001 and Sv 35000 respectively. Three of these monorails were ordered in 2016 by the Czech private carrier Leo Express from the Chinese manufacturer CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive. The carrier had an option for thirty units. The first unit was delivered to the Czech Republic in October 2019. The unit appeared on the VÚZ Velim test track. However, the vehicle approval process took a huge delay caused by the global pandemic COVID-19, when Chinese technicians could not operate in the Czech Republic. In September 2021, Spanish state railways Renfe and train manufacturer CAF entered the Czech carrier through ownership, and in April 2022 came the news that Leo Express had terminated the Chinese manufacturer's contract to purchase the units. However, the two units delivered so far have remained on the test circuit and the process of approving them for service continues. In November 2022, it was reported in the Czech media that, in connection with the delayed delivery of Alstom Traxx3 MS locomotives, the Czech carrier RegioJet had decided to negotiate the development of a new interoperable European locomotive with this Chinese manufacturer, and that it was RegioJet that would help CRRC with the approval of Sirius locomotives on the European market. This has been confirmed this week, and these tests should take place with passengers as early as this summer.

When it comes down to scale modeling with Legos a lot has happened over the last years. Its more and more recognized as a true scale modelers medium, and I think that is great. About three years ago I decided to build more different things then only the trucks that I had built so far. I built Harley Davidsons, Hot rods, and started with trains.
After the two big 1:16 scaled American diesels, I thought it would be nice to have something dynamic for events: A true scale locomotive on actual Lego rail gauge. I opted for the Union Pacific Big Boy: (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_Pacific_Big_Boy).
There are already many models of this type of locomotive but I wanted one for myself as it has always appealed to me since I was a kid. I did some math calculating back from the Lego track gauge, coming to a 1:38 scale.
Building such a big locomotive to run on Lego rail is a bit of a challenge. I had to deal with the following facts:
-The standard Lego curve is too tight for such a long locomotive. Therefor I choose the Radius 104 aftermarket rail.
-The wheels are not existing as such. In diameter 45 mm there is nothing available from the shelf. I worked together with Jaap Kroon to design and 3D print a set of custom wheels. To make it look more realistic I chose to add the valve gear as well. We designed the valve gear with Lego compatibility in the back of our heads. It should not become too fine compared to the bricks.
-Power. This thing is heavy. And it has a lot of batteries to add to the weight. The solution was three genuine Lego Power Functions XL engines directly geared to the axles of the tender. I chose the tender to push the locomotive as it was much more convenient to house the engines and batteries there. In order to get all the ‘juice’ to the engine I chose a regular RC Battery pack and the Tamiya connector was hooked up to a PF cable. To control it I mounted a SBrick, so there is no restriction of battery power in the whole system.
-Lights. I wanted to add some realistic lights as well. Initially I wanted a smoke generator but the proper 5V kit was not available anymore, so I dropped it (for now). Rob from Brickstuff.com supplied a very cool lightkit for the locomotive.
It includes a dimmer for the contour lights. All in all there is about 2 meters of wire in the locomotive. It took me about 2.5 months to finish.

“Synopsis”
A Palestinian group from Gaza hacks into North Korea’s cryptocurrency system, stealing hundreds of millions of dollars. Their true goal is not money—but to recreate the lost homeland of Gaza on American soil.
Amid the backdrop of hardline Republican immigration policies and a growing wave of xenophobia, a quiet plan begins to take shape: the gradual collapse of America from within.
During a speech at Madison Square Garden, Republican presidential candidate Justin Bradford is shot. Almost simultaneously in Los Angeles, former president Owen Reed is attacked at a rally for Democratic hopeful Ryan Bennett.
Two assassinations—mirroring one another—ignite a nation’s deepest divide. Yet, against all odds, Justin survives. His blood type is one in 2.5 million: the Bombay Blood Group.
The only person who can donate such blood is Anaya Patel, a community art facilitator working in Brooklyn. Her blood, stored in the Bellevue Hospital Blood Bank, is used for an emergency transfusion that saves the candidate’s life.
Jack Vance, an agent of the U.S. Secret Service, suspects a Gaza-based network behind the attacks. Together with Cameron Bartlett, the FBI Director of the Los Angeles Field Office, and Veronica Reeves, a senior investigator from New York, he begins to uncover a vast conspiracy.
Their investigation leads them to Rafi Gannam, a former architecture student at the Islamic University of Gaza, who has infiltrated redevelopment sites across Los Angeles and New York—embedding C4 explosives deep within beams and structural cores.
His targets: new residential districts where agents of ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) and ERO (Enforcement and Removal Operations) live—symbols of “the order America built.”
Veronica urges the President to pursue dialogue to prevent further destruction, but President Grant M. Ranford refuses to listen.
Meanwhile, the recovering Justin and his Democratic rival Ryan appear on national television, calling for unity beyond political divisions.
Their words of reason, however, are drowned out when Grant takes the stage in Iowa, defiantly declaring: “We will never bow to terror.”
Among the crowd, Rafi’s operatives have already taken their positions.
As chaos erupts and the stage collapses, Amir Nasser—once Rafi’s comrade, haunted by the memory of his sister’s death in Gaza—tries desperately to halt the chain of destruction.
But Rafi’s conviction remains unshaken.
Under the twilight beneath the Williamsburg Bridge, amid the city’s fading noise, the two men part ways.
It is the boundary between prayer and vengeance, between hope and nothingness.

Sometimes everything just falls into place. The right time, the right place. The sun breaks through the clouds, the light turns dramatic, and the colors feel almost surreal. And by pure luck, I had my camera and telephoto lens ready. A few minutes later, the moment had passed.
One funny detail: we ended up photographing each other. Though I have a feeling the crew was more interested in the ship I was standing on – one of the largest vessels in the world.
Search and Rescue (SAR):
The helicopter in the photo is a Leonardo AW139 – one of the most advanced and versatile rescue helicopters in operation today. The version shown here is likely a top-tier SAR configuration used for demanding offshore and maritime missions.

At 1900 on a July evening, 86614 and 90044 doublehead south alongside the river Clyde at Wandel, in the Upper Clyde Valley, with 4L81, the 1921 Coatbridge to Tilbury intermodal service.
The southbound approach to Beattock summit is considerably less challenging than the northbound: while the line climbs for much of the 40 miles from Glasgow, the gradient is steady rather than spectacular.
While the use of banking engines over Shap and Beattock summits ended in the 1960s, the use of double-headed traction continues into the 21st century. The combination of a class 86 and a class 90 seen here was an unusual if not unknown sight. The class 90s retained compatibility with the multiple working system fitted to the class 86 and 87 electrics used on the west coast route but for whatever reason, the combination was not used regularly.
After close to 40 years of railway photography, this day is my longest day to date. I obtained a total of 72 different images of perhaps 55 different trains. 70 of my images were captured in the sun and 30 were images of locomotive hauled trains. My first image on this day was taken at 0535 and my last just before 2100.
In recent years some railway photographers refer to the Upper Clyde Valley as the UHD - the 'Ultimate Holiday Destination'. Whilst I won't be trying to persuade my partner that this label is justified, for railway photographers, there is more than an element of truth to this.
