sorry for being so late with these comparisons. It's just been one thing after the other this month. I was busy with my own life, then a storm struck my power out for almost a week, then even when the power returned, my internet was still out. Then more life stuff...Ugh, crazy month.

Had some time today to spend with my dolls. I took out some of my Yo-SD girls and was surprised how different their bodies are.

Galaxy S3 vs iPhone 4S: Outdoor shot

Another reflector comparison. Shot in the morning, the sun was coming from behind but the plant is almost entirely in the shade. Both had a 60 cm reflector that was on the left side of the plant.

On the left image, the reflector had the plain white covering on. On the right image, I used the shiny gold covering, which gives a more directed fill light and obviously changes the colour of the light.

I was more after a spring/morning blossom explosion kind of feel out of this picture, and the more colourful image on the right was my keeper.

Both were iso400, the shiny kinds of reflectors tend to be more efficient at bouncing the light, but the distance the white reflector is from the subject can have a major impact on this.

A small gardening aside- all Hellebores are awesome, and that goes triple for a dark double Hellebore like this one:).

JID can do this pose without mobility joint. It 's easiest if she wears heels.

Cecile & Sonali side-by-side.

Cecile's skin tone is slightly lighter & warmer than Sonali's cooler, darker tone. I think Sonali's eyebrow placement makes her look inquisitive.

Just kept carving and referencing the template.

And then a step that I didn't get photos of. ;_; I covered the whole thing in paper mache (strips of newspaper and paste) to give it a surface for paint. Didn't cover it in anything else to keep a bit of the texture.

Experimenting with the differences between an umbrella in shoot thru configuration vs bounce configuration. Read a really great article by Don Giannatti, aka wizwow, from Lighting Essentials that really make me thing about this, so I decided to play around with it a bit today, and am pretty amazed at the differences! You can really see that the light does wrap around more with the bounce configuration, especially noticeable on the cheek to the right on the nose line and along the inside of the eye socket. Not sure why the image to the right has the blueish cast to it, both images were taken with the same camera settings, and adjusted the same in Lightroom. Gave up trying to figure it out for now, as it was not important to this whole exercise anyway...

Strobist info:

580EX II with 30" umbrella at 1/32 power, 24 mm, positioned at 45 degrees camera left. In both cases the diffusion material was 30 inches from the nose of the Styrofoam head, with the umbrella above and at an angle so that the rod pointed directly at the nose. Camera at 1/100, f/5.6 ISO 100.

JID it's better raising her head, but DOC wins raising her upper boddy. MSDoll can't do this... u.u

Comparison of Trax "XG" and XF Falcon Utes. Me thinks that Trax "forgot" to change the grille.

Decided to compare the potential width of a wooden roadbed instead of a stone/wood combination. The wood is 120mm wide, while the gravel bed is 150 mm wide. The wood would require some vertical planks to keep any ballasting in, so it would probably be about 120+22+22=164 mm wide. That's about 100 mm narrower than the stone and gravel combination.

These shots are from the Amazon website. I'll be doing comparisons as soon as Mini Marie Grace and Mini Cécile get here. I've been wondering about the head molds on the new girls, if they are new mini doll molds. It looks to me like Marie Grace's is, but I'm not sure about Mini Cécile.

42 pounds later...

Knowing that Europeans eat cheese, cream, potatoes, bread and pasta and, yet, aren't chronically obese, I made a point of NOT giving up those things. I love those things. They make me happy. And, indeed, when I eat raw veggies, my stomach sounds like Treebeard. Instead, I've stuck to 1200-1400 calorie count a day. I've been Ms Portion Control - I do eat spaghetti, but I don't each much of it. Instead of thinking, "I'll never be able to eat potatoes again", I plan a fantastic supper absolutely celebrating potatoes, and lovingly prepare them - and eat half a serving if I had more than a salad or Glucerna for lunch. Breakfast is just coffee, and I'll switch back to cereal eventually - just not now. I still ate two Christmas cookies or a piece of chocolate every night in December and every month since then, and if that kept me from losing weight more quickly FUCK IT because cookies are DELICIOUS. And I have a cheat day once a week where I get to eat up to 1800 calories. Those cheat days are great days... no, seriously, they are fantastic. I am so happy after them. Food makes me feel whole. I don't mean gorging myself - I'm not a binge eater. I mean just having a simple, delicious meal. But I can't eat like other people - like my Mom, who can eat everything I do and stay oh-so- fit and trim. Or like most of my friends, who can eat two or three meals a day. I can't do that without gaining weight. So I'm accepting the reality that I cannot eat three meals a day, that I cannot eat until I'm full - I have to pick an amount, put it on my plate, and that's IT.

A good friend of mine recently stated that my pictures were good enough not to require HDR treatment, so i have done a little comparison. Please let me know which you prefer.

Old comparison shot I put together a few years ago of the differences between some of the MNF girls.

Left to right: Modded Shushu head on 2008 Active line (A-line) with small bust and model legs, Marcia on 2008 A-line with small bust and cutie legs, Rheia on Renewal A-line with full bust and cutie legs.

The Renewal A-line wound up pretty decently shorter as well as thinner than her older counterparts. She also has a cinched in waist for a more prominent hourglass shape.

Also, unlike the old bodies, the Renewed A-line doesn’t have a ledge on the upper thigh piece that helps lock the hip cups in place. It also tends to be pretty bad at sitting up properly compared to the old versions. I had to suede the body to get it to sit on its own without support.

Size comparison of the Robot and a Minifig. I'm hoping to make alot of these.
