These Indian blankets made by Pendleton and other firms for Indian trading posts in the Pacific Northwest are from the private collection of glass artist Dale Chihuly (b. 1941) and were part of the exhibit Chihuly at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (October 20, 2012-February 10, 2013), where they were displayed in the Northwest Room, along with woven baskets and glass pieces inspired by those baskets. The colors of these blankets (said to have been liked by American Indians better than their own handmade blankets, for both their color and their warmth). Perhaps Chihuly just appreciated these colorful blankets, but they may have been part of the inspiration for his own very colorful glass art -- e.g., the Persian Ceiling (next photo) [ISO 6400, 1/8 sec., f/8; flash & tripods not allowed].

I'm going through my collections at the moment including Harry's and my rock collections. Harry had an old school case full of rocks he collected in Central Australia during a school excursion many years ago and I have collected some interesting rocks over the years too. I have culled the excess ones and here are some of what is left. The smaller ones are in an old antique box I own.
I know what some are but many I don't. If anyone knows, I am happy for them to make notes.

Card Text (transcribed from postcard): The modern and efficient water supply system of Richmond is owned and operated by the city. In this view is shown the New Pumphouse, completed in 1883, containing nine water pumps and an electric plant, the latter being installed in 1905. To the East of the pumphouse is the emergency steam plant and adjoining this are the four large centrifugal pumps, installed in 1909, and having capacity of 16 million gallons daily. The interesting mechanical features of the plant itself, as well as the diversified natural scenery surrounding it, render it an object of interest to numerous visitors.

On Monday 22nd February 2016, a special tea party was hosted by an tArdmhéara Críona Ní Dhálaigh at the Mansion House to mark the transfer by Valeo Foods of the archives of W & R Jacobs and the transfer of the Appleyard Collection by Douglas Appleyard to Dublin City Council.
The archives of W & R Jacob and Company, consisting of over 330 boxes, were acquired by Dublin City Library and Archive in 2012. Following a major cataloguing project they will now be opened for public access in the Reading Room of Dublin City Library and Archive at 139-144 Pearse Street, Dublin 2.
