Macro Mondays: Collection
Poor little road kill creatures given a purpose: educating Pre-Schoolers. Also added to the iNaturalist project "Australia's Untold Roadtoll".
Antechinus (carnivorous Marsupial Mouse) & baby Crocodile (from Kakadu; 7cm from snout to back of eye socket) plus a couple of Moccona coffee jar lids with a legless lizard and another little mammal skull.
Probably started back in the 1980s when our boys were young. We brought back the crocodile skull from Kakadu, a big horned cow skull from the Northern Territory and some goat skulls from the back of Bourke.

A very busy day to end my work week, but having only worked three days this week I'm not going to complain.
Had a busy evening too and didn't get a lot of photography time so I just snapped a couple photos in the garden and called it a day.

People keep asking which photo was highly commended yesterday in the Faith through a lens competition. Here it is. Taken in Kalaw earlier this year. We got up early and waited for the monks to come down this covered walkway from the monastery. We waited a long time, practicing focus and exposure and when the monks eventually came they ran down the steps towards us so we were lucky to get a few shots of them.

. . . Took advantage of a cold and windy Saturday to stay indoors and arrange a wall collection of some of my favorite shots. I ran out of hanging wires, so I will have to continue this effort later.

By my count, there are 5 vintage tractors in here, along with one used-up golf cart and a possible lawn mower. As I was photographing the saddle (next picture), I said to the farmer, who was sitting nearby, "you got a lot of old tractors in there, it made a great picture." He laughed and said, "that's not all of them!" Evidently old tractors don't die, they just go to this guy's barn.
This shot took a little effort. Initially, the ISO was too high. But I wanted deep depth of field, so I had to keep the f/stop high. So I relied on my new monopod to give me some steadiness, and took the shutter speed down to 1/15th. That got the ISO down to a more manageable 7200. Finally, I passed it through Topaz Photo AI to deal with the noise and sharpening. It kinda came out as I envisioned it.

This is from my last trip to Berlin, Germany. I finally managed to visit the "Museum für Naturkunde" and to see the wet collection. The room has a unique look & feel.You can find specimens from all animal groups there, stored in a mixture of 70 % alcohol and 30 % water to protect them from decay. There are one million specimens stored in 276,000 jars, taking up 12.6 km of shelf space on three levels.
The hôtel de la Marine (also known as the hôtel du Garde-Meuble) is an historic building located on place de la Concorde in Paris, to the east of rue Royale. It was designed and built between 1757 and 1774 by the architect Ange-Jacques Gabriel, on the newly created square first called Place Louis XV. The identical building to its west, constructed at the same time, now houses the hôtel de Crillon and the Automobile Club of France.
The Hôtel de la Marine was originally the home of the royal Garde-Meuble, the office managing the furnishing of all royal properties. Following the French Revolution it became the Ministry of the French Navy, which occupied it until 2015. It was entirely renovated between 2015 and 2021.
It now displays the restored 18th century apartments of Marc-Antoine Thierry de Ville-d'Avray, the King's Intendant of the Garde-Meuble, as well the salons and chambers later used by the French Navy.
A separate part displays the Al Thani Collection presenting international and inter-cultural works of art from the collection of Sheik Hamad bin Abdullah Al Thani.
I've never done a count, but I suspect the Camellia Collection has been my most-photographed section at the U.S. National Arboretum. There are blossoms every season of the year except summer. They have so many sizes, colors and shapes; it's such a beautiful place to visit.
