On the edge of an Area of Outständing Natural Beauty and known as Prospect Stile, this vantage point is well known for its magnificent views of the surrounding. countryside. The Mendip Hills lie in the middle distance with the Severn Estuary beyond and Wales visible on the horizon on a clear day. The formation of two reservoirs: Blagdon Lake formed by the damming of the River Yeo in 1905 and Chew Lake by the damming of the River Chew in 1956, actually enhanced the vista.
The sad loss of so many trees due to Dutch elm disease in the 1970s had the side . effect of revealing more clearly the field boundaries that have resulted from the changing pattern of land management over countless centuries.

Another day at home for the rascals. The roads are cleaned regularly, even up our remote hill, but nevertheless this morning they were coated with a thick layer of ice. MrMV retreated.
For my 120 photos in 202O project, number 81 "on the street where I live".
I've not "prettied" this up, straight out of the camera.

This new arctic suit was bought second hand online and looks 'never worn'. It is labelled Canadian Arctic Program!
We don't have any use for it really, other than making silly photos when we think it is 'cold'. It is cozy warm inside this suit!
The suit is quite heavy and cumbersome. It doesn't need hanging; it is so thick that it stands on its own! :)

The congregation scratched its head,

A heavy silence seemed to steal
On all at this remark;

“We want an inch of rain, we do,”
O’Neil observed at last;
But Croke “maintained” we wanted two
To put the danger past.
“If we don’t get three inches, man,
Or four to break this drought,
We’ll all be rooned,” said Hanrahan,
“Before the year is out.”
In God’s good time down came the rain;
And all the afternoon
On iron roof and window-pane
It drummed a homely tune.
And through the night it pattered still,
And lightsome, gladsome elves
On dripping spout and window-sill
Kept talking to themselves.
It pelted, pelted all day long,
A-singing at its work,
Till every heart took up the song
Way out to Back-o’-Bourke.
And every creek a banker ran,

You'd be forgiven for thinking this was much further north, or even on another continent, but as the crow flies, it's only 150 miles from London to this stunning frozen phenomena where ice-climbers are flocking to put their crampons and ice-picks to the test before the giant frozen waterfall begins to thaw.
The one hundred foot icicles on Kinder Downfall have only just reached peak condition and are now ready for the brave to climb - if they can reach the remote location over 2000 feet up in the Peak District, just north of Buxton, Derbyshire.
Medical students, Marije Jansen, 30, and Sean Cox, 31 were the first climbers to reach the ice at eight o'clock this morning. Sean said: "I moved to Derby last September and I'd never have believed I'd be ice climbing in The Peak District this winter - you never quite know whether the ice is going to hold - it's a bit sketchy really, but it's just amazing."
Marije said: "When you climb on rocks you have to bend your body and squeeze through gaps - but climbing on ice feels like you are cheating - you just hack your way through it with your ice picks - is a bit like digging a way up through the ice with a Black and Decker."
Mountain Rescuer and Mountaineering Instructor, Nick Lord said: "It takes a week of temperatures below zero before Kinder Downfall freezes solid. Now it has, it should stay iced-up for a week or so even if things do start to thaw elsewhere.
"The water that runs off the Kinder Scout plateau runs through peat - it's this that makes lots of the ice look browny-yellow."
